Ok so this feels like double dipping, as I left a review for each of these on their own book pages. Basically, I am just pasting my reviews from Guy, Luke, and Christopher here. I will have to add another book to my book challenge since this seems like cheating.
There may be some minor SPOILERS in here, but I tried to keep them somewhat generic.
Guy’s story:
This is a novella so it is short. It actually ended up being a “nice, sweet” story. There is drama, but it is pretty low and won’t raise your angst meter past tepid. We first heard about Guy in Drew Morris’s story from A Long Tall Texan Summer which was also a novella. Guy has a couple of mean(not even cruel) moments but overall is caring and loving in the story.
Guy, works for the Ballengers feed lot. He goes and gets hammered every weekend, sometimes tearing up the local bar. (Hey, but he never drives drunk!!) Basically, Guy feels responsible for the death of his fiancée 3 years ago. She was sweet, and good for him. Sometimes these “ I feel guilt stories,” do not really mesh with what happened. In this case, I totally get why this hero tortures himself. There are some things you just can’t unsee. I do feel sad for the hero.
Candy Marshall comes into Jacobsville on assignment. She is basically there to check out some of the ranches and their ranching methods so she can promote local beef etc… Guy is the one who is asked to squire her to the different ranches. Candy has her own sad story and feels responsible for her father’s death. This was feeling was furthered by her cold mother who has never shown much affection for anyone(except the Dad, and even that was doled out sparingly). Now, Candy’s guild is unwarranted, however, I can understand her survivors remorse. She also cannot unsee what happened all those years ago when she was 10. She also has long term health effects from the incident.
When Guy meets the h he is struck as to how similar in looks she is to the dead fiancée (I would have preferred her not to, just because comparisons are bound to happen. I mean a spunky red head might have been nice). She comes off as fragile and rather prickly. They do not hit it off. He tells her she can get her own ride to the ranches and he will meet her there. The next day they meet at Cy Parks ranch. Cy has been in several stories and has his own hard luck story(lost wife and kids in fire and his hand was burned) I have yet to read his book. Anyhoo, he likes the h and he knows her background. She leaves, and he fills the H in on her background. The H knowing his own issues is able to empathize with the h. He checks on her to make sure she is ok, as she has breathing issues. He suspects asthma, but she isn’t one for doctors or being fussed over.(I interpret this to mean that because of the guilt she feels over her Dad’s death, that this is her cross to bare.)
Ok, let me remind you that this is a novella and things move fast. These two had a connection right away and it is pretty much love at first sight once they can get past their hang ups. I am leaving out several key details.
At Matt Caldwells ranch the h has a life and death episode. It is up to the H to save her. He uses Matt’s plane to get her to a hospital quickly. She lives and in some ways saving her life when he couldn’t save his fiancées is somewhat healing. He gets her to the Dr, stays with her, and they have some nice kissing. They find they have a lot in common, including fishing.
Her time in Jacobsville(about a week) has come to a close. She needs to go back to Denver. The H believes this is what she wants, and she believes that the H is ok with her going. The night before she leaves, Cy comes to visit her and asks her if she can go to the local bar. It seems that the H is on a bender and ready to tear it up. The h believes it to be her fault because she brought up memories of his fiancée when she got ill.
She takes him back to her hotel to have him sleep it off. They have their declarations of love. (He went on the bender, because he couldn’t bare letting her go) The plan is to be married by the end of the week. It ends on their honeymoon with the thoughts of the hero and how he feels whole again with the h. DP was able to convince me that the h will not be 2nd best.
Luke:
This was MEH at best….(or is it because I have read 4 DP’s in the last 2 days?) That is the problem with DP and me. Since she connects most of her stories I get wrapped up in them. Once I start to read one, I end up reading 3 or 4(the biscuit brothers and I went a whole weekend back in June!).
The best thing I can say about this story is that it was short….or maybe that is the reason it failed. I read Unlikely Lover which is the story of the h’s brother(I will review that later). I decided to track down Belinda and Luke’s story. Unfortunately, the story never really fleshed out their characters enough for my liking. I actually didn’t warm up to the h in this one, and I usually like DP’s heroines.
Belinda is a 27 year old virgin with old fashion values but has a successful job as a public defender for mainly wayward kids in Houston. She bought a small farm sandwiched between the H’s ranch and Cy Parks (The Winter Soldier She is taking a summer vacation with some of her wayward clients to give them a taste of country life and show them a different way. It is no surprise that her two neighbors are not happy about this. When her oldest charge picks the locks not once but twice to the gates of the H’s ranch, the H and her have a confrontation.
Luke, the hero, has old fashion values, he thought he was once in love but she cheated on him as soon as he went away for business. When he first meets the heroine, sparks fly. But then he takes interest in her wayward camp for boys. Especially, the one who picked the locks. It seems he has found his calling, and he wants to be a cowboy. The H takes him under his wing, promising him a job if he does well finishing high school.
Anyhoo, Luke’s kindness and attractiveness has the h all a flutter. The H is smitten as well, and drops hints early on (within days)that he wouldn’t mind settling down with the h and making some heirs. HIs innuendos, passionate kissing, and respectfulness to the h was just not computing with the h at all. She too was hurt when her fiance that she wouldn’t sleep with ran off and eloped with her best friend. So, I can only conclude that she was being super cautious with the H at her detriment. (Honey at 27 those eggs aren’t getting any fresher!)
Although she indicated at one point that she was an old fashion girl and would like to settle down at some point, she is now hellbent on being a career woman. The H practically proposes to her and she who is in love with him, tells him she is selling the property and heading back to Houston. He leaves her with a passionate kiss and indicates it is not over yet.
Approximately, 3 weeks later he shows up in Houston and sweeps the h off her feet. Absence did her a world of good so she is excited about moving to Jacobsville and possibly working there.
There is a wedding. The wayward teen is now graduated and working on the H’s ranch. (I’m assuming he either graduated in December or was close to graduating, because it would be unlikely for DP heroes and heroines to wait a year to get hitched….especially with all the lust between them. This book wasn’t very lusty. Just meaningful kissing. We didn’t even get a wedding night. I never felt angst in this story. I think the h is very lucky to be married to Luke, because he seems like a really good guy.
I feel like there was very little character development, and so it was hard for me to feel too emotional for the characters.
Honestly, I think DP used this book as a commentary on our Juvenile justice system, and how society fails our lower income and children of color. Although, she does put a little caveat in there that some children cannot be reformed.
I only got one glimpse of the couple from an Unlikely Loving, I was hoping to see more of them. They didn’t even get words in this book. The good thing is, after reading this one I feel like I can take a little breather from DP!
Christopher’s story:
Here is another novella from Diana Palmer. It moves quick. My friends as I read this story, I couldn’t help but think of the words dame, gumshoe, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Claudette Colbert, Carole Lombard to name a few….
The H, Christopher, has quite the reputation as a ladies man, who has enough money to lead a life of leisure and garner unwanted publicity in the disreputable news rags.
As the story develops, we find there is more to the H then meets the eye. He had an epiphany a few years ago when he was involved in an accident which has left him scarred and blind in one eye. (Injuries be damned, he still gets the looks from the hot to trot dollies!) He is starting to long for something more….maybe a family? When his mother comes up missing, he gets involved with an up and coming news reporter. She is cute as a button an as innocent as new born babe.
He basically takes one look at her and tells her that she is too soft for the hard stuff. Within hours of meeting they are off to England, as the h believes she has the scoop on his missing mother.
Yes, my friends this is a story where our two characters are going to be involved in some intrigue. This is how I feel about that:
Look, I like a good mystery, but I’d rather watch it. Unlike, my romance which I’d rather read as movies rarely capture the angst that books do. Usually, I avoid intrigue. Since this was a novella, I decided to stick with it.
So here our dynamic duo go on a madcap adventure, falling more and more in love along the way.
It is a good thing our H was not only in the military but he also did some covert operations as a mercenary. It will come in handy when he has to help take down the bad guys who are holding the rather saucy 75 year old mom captive.
In between their sleuthing, the couple make time to get some dinner, swimming, and expert kissing in from the H. A rather attractive woman gives the H the sly eye at the swimming pool, but he shuts that down real quick. No need to make the h jealous, because she is ott in love already.
When it comes time to rescue the mom, they get help from the dark attractive Seth, who has a connection to the H’s family. Mom gets rescued, and the H introduces the h as her future dil. The h is happy but a little taken aback by the declaration. Then, Seth grabs the h in his arms as a celebratory kiss telling her he wish he saw her first. He takes off. The H asks her about the kiss, she says it was good but not good enough. Only the H can give her the kisses she wants. Everyone laughs and all are happy as they board the plane for the states.
Meeting them at the gate is the h’s equally saucy grandfather. It seems he and the H’s mom have some history. History worth repeating. So here we get a secondary romance between the older couple.
The h and H are married(in less than 2 weeks of meeting). They go on their honeymoon and the H and h are very compatible bedmates. Meanwhile, back in the states, the gramps and mother are making their own explosions.
So if you like a pretty clean romance with some humor and a light mystery you may enjoy this. To me it was a 2.5 but I rounded it to 3. I would never feel the need to reread it. To me, it was enjoyable like a carnival ride but not exhilarating like a ride at Cedar Point that you wait in line for over and over again!

There was one thing I didn't like about all the stories, the fact thatthey all started thinkng about marriage so very quickly. In the second story, Luke started thinking about the 'future' the hour he figured she wasn't what he thought.
Guy Fenton: 4 stars
This story was really good, a favourite, in fact. I loved the plot about Guy's past (well, I guess that much would be obvious, given my thing for tortured heroes). Candy was a sweetheart, big-hearted and generous. I really enjoyed the story,
Luke Craig: 2 stars
The book startedout well, even if I found the part where aluke changes his mnd about her and startsthinking of a future with her so quickly a bit unrealistic. The middle of the story was good, especially with the Cy Parks deal, and I loved Kell's part in the story (I hope the DP writes a story for him) but it went downhill from there. I hated how stubborn Belinda wasand I hated how Luke had to do all the chasing. I would have been more satisfied with Luke's story if he'd have had a more likeable woman to fall in love with.

I loved this book as well. I loved the mystery side-plot to the story, I haven't read many DP novels with mystery plots. She does them quite well. I loved the characters, Chris especially (tortured hero plot again) and Delia was completely, utterly likeable. I loved her soft-hearted character, and I loved how she made Chris more confident about himself. I also liked the way their relationship advances.
And last but definitely not least, I simply, absolutely loved Tansy and Herbert. I had a good laugh over the two of them.

This story was really good, a favourite, in fact. I loved the plot about Guy's past (well, I guess that much would be obvious, given my thing for tortured heroes). Candy was a sweetheart, big-hearted and generous. I really enjoyed the story,

The book startedout well, even if I found the part where aluke changes his mnd about her and startsthinking of a future with her so quickly a bit unrealistic. The middle of the story was good, especially with the Cy Parks deal, and I loved Kell's part in the story (I hope the DP writes a story for him) but it went downhill from there. I hated how stubborn Belinda wasand I hated how Luke had to do all the chasing. I would have been more satisfied with Luke's story if he'd have had a more likeable woman to fall in love with.

I loved this book as well. I loved the mystery side-plot to the story, I haven't read many DP novels with mystery plots. She does them quite well. A princípio se tem uma idéia totalmente errada de que Luke é amargurado e preconceituoso. A partir do segundo capítulo, é visível que ele tem algumas magoas, mas, não passam de magoas, nada mais.
Na realidade é um homem como a todo texano da DP, durão, viril e protetor. O diferencial de Luke é que ele não é ogro, pelo contrario. Adora crianças e sabe muito bem como lidar com elas e é muito carinhoso.
Normalmente os personagens masculinos da DP, não querem saber de compromisso, desta vez ela inverteu os papeis. É Belinda que não quer se comprometer, tem um medo terrível do amor e conseqüentemente, morre de medo de machucar seu coraçãozinho num compromisso em que ela tem que se arriscar, lhe falta coragem.
Mas isso não é problema pra um Homem do Texas... rs.

Não posso esquecer as duas figuras de meia idade: Herbert avô de Delia e Tansy mãe de Chris. Que roubam a cena literalmente, ri muito com os dois velhinhos. Duas crianças grandes. Lindinhos!!!

Mais um amargurado da vasta coleção de personagens da DP. Mas, Guy Fenton não é bobo. Consegui, em pouco tempo perceber, que estar próximo, da bela Candy, resultaria numa paixão que ele não poderia controlar.
E apesar de alguns contratempos, Guy consegue de uma forma inusitada dizer para Candy o que realmente sente por ela e o que deseja para o futuro dos dois juntos.
O que mais gostei foi o fato de Guy não ser um ogro, nem machista e muito menos um recalcado. Pelo contrario, apesar dos traumas ele quer ser feliz e fazer Candy feliz.
RECOMENDADÍSSIMO!!!

My main problem with this book is the stories are too short. In all three stories the male character didn't like the female character when they first met and within a few pages they're declaring their love. It takes a unique story to work in a short story length. I didn't find any of these stories convincing.

The story was good but i feel that if it was slightly longer and had a more personal account of the characters past and life, it would have been more enjoyable. This book has left me quite intrigued about Cy Parks though.

I purchased a copy of the steamy Long, Tall Texans: Love with a long Tall Texan by Diana Palmer, and this review was given freely.
An ironic, heavily sad story of PTSD and loss, but also a story of finding love, overcoming alcoholism, and controlling asthma.
Air cargo company owner and former pilot, now manager of the feedlot, Guy is told by his boss to stop his weekend drinking, but he does not have the strength or desire to stop until the gun-massacre surviving and asthma-suffering, freelance cattle industry publicist, Candace, who looks just like his dead fiancée, brings out his protective instinct.

Great read
I have read this stories before but couldn't not buy it again it's so so delightfully scrumptious that just had to have a go at it again you are the one and only true Texas gal with t the knowledge of how much you can enjoy being with a true cowboy who is a gentleman through and through. Your my most beloved author and I've been reading your books for decades they make my heart sing at 66yrs to still find such joy in the stories love the way true love is a rare and endangered type of feeling these days. Nice to have a set of short stories. Read when you have short amounts of waiting time. I always enjoy Diana Palmer stories. Sometimes I have to get away from the other too modern genres I read.

Love With a Long, Tall Texan (Long, Tall Texans Book 21) by Diana Palmer – Jacobsville, Texas is a lot less grumpy 21 books and several dozen marriages into the series. All three of these novellas are love at first snarl lol! Happy Reading!

Sometimes it's good to read a short story or three.

This was a great exciting and fun read. Diana Palmer is one of my favorite authors. There are 3 stories of Texas men in this book: GUY FENTON is a man with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and Chemistry and owns air cargo company and is a pilot. He's hiding from himself as manager of a feed lot in Jacobsville, TX. He meets Candace Marshall and realizes she is ill and she's hiding it from herself and everyone else.
Together they find the answers to so many questions.
LUKE CRAIG has new neighbors. His neighbor is Belinda Jessup a public defender that has bought the small piece of land for a vacation home for troubled boys she has defended. The sparks fly when someone keeps picking the locks on the gate letting his cows out.
CHRIS DEVERELL is looking for his wild and crazy mother who has disappeared and he can't find her. A reporter for a tabloid paper, Della Larson. She is looking for his mother, Tansy, too. It seems she wanted for murder in Great Britain. Their search together finds the murderer and much more. Love this book!

It was a short yet enjoyable read. I just wished it was longer.
Guy Fenton - 4 stars
I loved both Guy and Candy. They compliment each other. And they both understand the grief of losing someone you loved. I also enjoyed the appearances of other characters, especially Cy Parks.
Chris Deverell - 5 stars
This is my favorite among the three. I loved Chris, the reformed rake. He was now a changed man. And Delia was an utterly likable heroine. She's strong with a soft heart. I loved how she made Chris felt confident with his scars. That it really didn't matter. Another thing I like about the book was the way their love story developed. Slowly yet very convincing. It was lovely.

After read Dr. Drew Morris's story, I was curious about Guy's past. This story brought two people with sorrowful pasts together, and gave each other hope for the future again. A beautiful short reading.
2. Luke 3.5 stars
Ok read, although H was not as mean as other DP's heroes, this story seemed too ordinary compared to Guy's story. And why did so many heroes asked heroines to make coffee or cook when it was their kitchen and heroines were their guests? Really rude.

If you've read The Case of the Missing Secretary, this was H's brother's story. Of course their adventurous mother also played an important role in this story. This story was my favorite of this book because it was excited.

La historia de Chris fue demasiado rápida como para creerla pero aun así fue mi favorita. El pasado de Guy era demasiado triste u.u y te quedaba claro porque se emborrachaba, pero logro ser feliz:3
En cuanto a Luke, su pasado igual era oscuro, pero creo que a su historia le falto que fuese más desarrollada:( me hubiera gustado leer más de esa pareja.
En fin, 4/5 para este libro<3

Long Tall Texans #21 (Guy, Luke, Christopher) The stories are very short. It makes the book better if you have read the other LTT stories because they sort of tie in a bit here and there. I like the first one about Guy the best.
