In this indispensable book, master diagnostician James Morrison presents the spectrum of diagnoses in DSM-5 in an accessible, engaging, clinically useful format. Demystifying DSM-5 criteria without sacrificing accuracy, the book includes ICD-10-CM codes for each disorder. More than 130 detailed case vignettes illustrate typical patient presentations; down-to-earth discussions of each case demonstrate how to arrive at the diagnosis and rule out other likely possibilities. Providing a wealth of diagnostic pointers, Morrison writes with the wisdom and wit that made his guide to the prior DSM a valued resource for hundreds of thousands of clinicians and students. His website (www.guilford.com/jm) offers additional discussion and resources related to psychiatric diagnosis and DSM-5.
See also Morrison's Diagnosis Made Easier, Second Edition, which offers principles and decision trees for integrating diagnostic information from multiple sources; The First Interview, Fourth Edition, which presents a framework for conducting thorough, empathic initial evaluations; and The Mental Health Clinician's Workbook, which uses in-depth cases and carefully constructed exercises to build the reader's diagnostic skills.
The case studies in this book make it an awesome teaching tool. My only wish was that he also included the criteria for diagnosis in a similar format to the DSM-V, but I understand why he didn't do so.
DSM-5-TR Made Easy by James R. Morrison is an exceptionally practical and accessible resource for graduate students beginning the process of clinical diagnosis. Morrison does a fantastic job and translates complex diagnostic criteria into clear, organized, and clinically meaningful language without oversimplifying the material.
One of the book’s greatest strengths is its structure. Diagnostic categories are presented in a way that mirrors clinical reasoning, which helps students learn how to think diagnostically rather than just memorize criteria.
For graduate students, this book serves as an ideal bridge between coursework and clinical application. It is particularly useful when learning to conduct initial assessments, rule out diagnoses, and understand subtle distinctions between disorders.
Takie podręczniki można polecać :) Autor tłumaczy w prosty sposób rozumienie kryteriów diagnostycznych, przedstawia obraz kliniczny poszczególnych zaburzeń i obrazuje je z pomocą studium przypadku, co ułatwia zrozumienie. Całym dopełnieniem są ciekawostki, które nie są wyrwane z kontekstu. Nie polecam jednak sięgać po ten podręcznik bez znajomości podstaw neuropsychologii i psychopatologii.
i am actively diagnosing my whole bloodline and everyone i have ever met (i am joking. there was so much information that i am only beginning to digest and understand)
I feel as though this is an exceptional tool however the brazen judgemental and conservative stance spoils it. I think it's sickening that James Morrison cannot help but allow his blatant homophobia, sexism and ableism to overcast what could be a wonderful guide
Good overview of the mental disorders and provides realistic example cases for each disorder. Author doesn't shy away from providing his opinion on certain criterion/changes in the DSM, and provides useful suggestions for diagnostic heuristics.
This book is so helpful for learning and using the DSM. It's easy to read and has great examples of clients and examples of how to code and use diagnoses.
