Fulfilled: The Refreshing Alternative to the Half-Empty Life

Rate this book
Joey Lankford had what a lot of people want in the nice house, the nice family, and the nice salary (not to mention the nice stuff that goes along with it). But a nice life also comes with a big hunger for more. And at about the time he realized it, he discovered how drained, empty, and frustrated he felt from trying to keep up. Who knew the American dream could cost so much?
Joey exchanged a comfortable life, running the family business in the Nashville suburbs, to engage in mission halfway around the world. The Lankford’s left behind family, friends, and the familiar in search of a unique calling–economic development among South Africa's poorest communities.  Fulfilled is one family's daring plunge into freedom, not by running away from it all, but by running directly into total surrender to God. Joey Lankford and his family found that in order gain it all, you have to be willing to lose it all; in order to really live, first you have to die. There's still a life that's both full and fulfilling, a life spent in wild pursuit of God.

OMG!!!!

All I can say to everyone who has felt that it has to be more to the Christian life. Every Sunday I see people march in and out of Church, never really understanding that God has a purpose for their lives. I live in a place where there is probably a church on every corner, yet the poverty and crime rate are astonishing. There is certainly a hole in the gospel. Sadly the pastors (not all,but most) are ill equipped to deal with the problem, for various reason, but mostly, they haven't surrendered. I have spent many years on the journey of surrendering and I can identify with Joey. I still have a long way to go, but he encourages me to keep surrendering where I am. I have seen God do wonders in my life and family. Joey reminds me that I don't have to manifest love, because I am love, it's a natural result of surrendering my life to God. It's the overflow that's touched the heart of those who I come in contact with. Thank you Joey for a wonderful example of the surrendered life.

I enjoyed this book, but I felt as though it was a bit longer than needed and personally there was nothing spectacular. These are the reasons I gave it a 3/5!

There were aspects of this book that were done really well, and aspects of this book that could have been done better. I enjoyed this book for the most part, but I feel as though Lankford dragged a few of his points out longer than necessary. This book could have easily been 80-100 pages long, and at times it felt as though he was just writing to hit a word count.

Personally, this book held nothing revelatory but I think if for some people it could be a very big eye opener into the real lives of missionaries.

Lankford's writing was easy to understand and this was a fun read at times.

Fabulous

I love when I read a book and it's like having a conversation with the author. That's exactly how easy this book was to read. And the message was powerful and clear. Inspiring. Thought provoking. A true wake up call. What a great book!
