I have been a fan of Higgidy pies (found in the grocery store) since moving to the UK a few of years ago. The one I liked best is no longer on offer (a sausage patty sitting inside a flaky pastry crust, covered in mashed potatoes and topped with a cherry tomato – Super yum!) so I was keen to pick up this cookbook to find an equivalent recipe.

Needless to say, Camilla Stephens is a genius! These recipes are inspired and work a treat when you are looking for something delicious, and packed with veg, to make for lunch and/or dinner. I am not skilled at pastry-making so tended to shy away from doing it. This book has certainly changed my view on that. I don’t think twice about throwing together a pie now. They are delicious, not as time intensive as you might think, and worth the effort. A gorgeous pie is something to be proud of, I can tell you.

This cookbook isn’t just about pies. There are a wide variety of quiche, puddings and other pastry (and non-pastry) meals and treats. This book has so many bookmarks in it that I need to be careful opening it.

A word to the wise – try the Chinese Spiced Beef Pies. They are to die for!
