In this latest novel from acclaimed author Cindy Myers, big changes are afoot in the warm-hearted small town of Eureka, Colorado... With local Maggie Stevens's baby on the way-not to mention her wedding to Jameso Clark in the works-spring in Eureka promises to be a time of rebirth in more ways than one. To add to the excitement, and refill the town's depleted coffers, Lucille, the mayor, has wooed a movie producer to Eureka, throwing folks into a tizzy-and inspiring some to reach for the stars. As if that weren't enough, the bogus Lucky Lady mine the town partially sold turns out to really have gold in it-and possibly a ghost to boot. But with each silver lining, there seems to be a cloud... With Eureka's financial future at stake, Lucille will have to wrangle Lucky Lady's greedy half-owner to regain control. Meanwhile, just as Jameso is getting comfortable with the imminent role of husband and father, his wayward sister, Sharon, comes to Eureka to escape a troubled marriage. Can the residents of Eureka find the courage to stand up to ghosts of all kinds and get their beloved town back on its feet in time to welcome their newest addition-and celebrate the gifts of spring...? I was provided a copy of "A Change in Altitude" by Cindy Myers in the hopes that a fair and honest review would be submitted.
"A Change in Altitude" was a really sweet, quick read. The citizens of Eureka are welcoming newcomer Sharon and Alina into their fold, awaiting the wedding of Maggie and Jameso as well as the birth of their first child. The town also welcomes a movie director from Hollywood interested in using the town as a backdrop for his new reality series.
There are a lot of characters, but all of them were a joy to read. This is the first book of Myers that I've read, and throughout the story I wished I'd read her first book set in Eureka so I knew more about the characters and how they related to each other. In particular, the backstory of the romance between Maggie and Jameso as well as the romance between Olivia and D.J. would have been helpful. It was not absolutely necessary to understand this story, but I was so hooked on the characters I wanted to know their story from the beginning.
"Altitude" is being touted as on par with Kristin Hannah and Robyn Carr. I wouldn't go that far, but this book and the characters show a lot of promise as an ongoing series. I'll definitely look forward to additional stories from Cindy Myers, as well as go back to read her first two books, "The View from Here", and "The Mountain Between Us".
Local Maggie Stevens' baby is on the way - as her well as her wedding to Jameso Clark the town of Eureka promises to be a time of rebirth in more ways than one. Also the unexpected arrival of Jameso’s estranged sister with her daughter in tow.
Jameso has changed his name and living a new life. He forges a friendship with his niece as the arrival of his baby daughter is close at hand. His relationship with his sister is a bit strained since they have not talk in five years.
His sister Sharon is going through a divorced and just came to Eureka, Colorado from her life in Vermont to visit her brother. She is ready for a change after living a recluse life in the wilderness with her husband and children. She regrets leaving her older son behind but he closed to live with her ex and his dad. Sharon knew she had to leave to protect her daughter from her husband’s close friend as he was eying her daughter.
This is a nice story f new starts and finding what important family even as time pass.
A Change in Altitude by Cindy Myers Love this series and glad there is another book to read with the same characters that I am familiar with. This book starts out with Jonesy's sister and niece coming from VT to his location in Eureka and his girlfriend Maggie Stevens welcoming her. Maggie is pregnant with Jonesy's child and it will mean changes for them. Love hearing of the townsfolk and how they help one another out and the mysteries behind all the mines. So much going on, easy to follow, pregnancy, ghosts, wedding plans, threat of ex husbands, remodeling of a new B&B, past murders, keeps the story going while the town people go on about their business and the gold mine, movie slotted to be filmed around the town. I received this book from The Kennsington Books in exchange for my honest review
This is the third book I've read by Myers set in the fictional town of Eureka, Colorado. I loved it. Her characters are quirky and fun and each book adds a few more who are sure to become permanent residents of Eureka. I enjoy them more with every book and am looking forward to the next one
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are all likeable and there is a lot going on. I haven't read the first 2 books and I think it probably would be best to read them, you can tell there were past stories that you didn't know about, but it wasn't like I felt I was missing any info. It just makes me want to go back and read the first two books. It didn't have the ending I wanted, but I feel the book ended the way it needed to. I enjoyed the town of Eureka and want to go back!
