A collection of articles about the show that has captivated viewers for twenty years includes a behind-the-scenes look at "Star Trek--The Next Generation," what really makes the Enterprise fly, and profiles of the stars
Part of a series that is a throwback to the fanzine-pre-internet-fandom of the 80s and 90s. In some ways, it's a very nostalgic look at the past...but in others it seems very awkward and overly-earnest...but aren't all of us geeks that way at many times with our great loves? The early analysis of the first two seasons of TNG just seem, all these years later, as hilariously "wrong".
From March 1991 comes the 16th installment in the Best of Trek series out of the magazine series. This collection of articles ranges the gamut from the original series stuff through the early seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation. These 15 articles are a mixed bag of things and aren't as painful to read as some of the other selections that have come from prior installments. Each of these varied insights though do remind us of the passion of the fans and why the series has done what it has over the decades.
I found this at a thrift shop, and thought, "why not?" It's fan essays of varying quality. A quick and pleasant enough read. I have to say, I was happy to read the negative reviews of a few popular 80s Pocket novels that I also don't care for. Big shout out to the reviewer of the premiere of TNG who correctly predicted everything annoying about Wesley Crusher that was to come over the next few seasons!
