This is one more entry in a series that is part of the Dragonlance realm. It is intended for the younger audience with each entry concentrating on a specific type of dragon. In this one, Belen works for a circus but she has lost her memories that are over five years. There is more to Belen than just a circus performer.
I have enjoyed this series but I do think this is one of the weaker books from this series. I believe this happened because there were too many characters and too much stuff going on with them. Like I said this book is for a younger audience so the author attempted to cram everything in and it felt crowded. I felt like every character in this book needed to be fleshed out some more. I did like the main character and her story but it suffered the same problem that every character suffered from in this book. Not enough time and story with her. At least I could get a sense of her character and her story. There was one character where his story was hinted at but not fleshed out at all. His character was a total swing and a miss because of this and he played a vital part in the proceedings.
I am a little disappointed in this book as I was looking forward to this one the most from this series. I enjoy the silver dragons from this world and this book did not satisfy me like I was hoping. It is a decent story but it needed more. Maybe it should have been a novel from this world instead of book intended for the younger audience.

Works as a stand alone story. A bit of a mystery solving adventure and misdirected love story. Quite pleasant.

Silver Dragon Codex another wonderful book in the Dragon Codex series. I must say that I am greatly enjoying these book and always look forward to reading the next book in this series. Each book focuses on a different type of dragon, of which there are ten, and each story involves totally different characters and situations.
In this book, we have a silver dragon that has suffered from memory loss. Not only can she not remember who she is, she doesn't even remember that she is a dragon. When Belen does finally remember everything, she is hit with horrible pain and anguish over the loss of her child. She understands why she attacked the village, but now comprehends that it was wrong of her for her to do this. She jumped to a conclusion without the proper evidence, and an entire town suffered because of her misguided anger.
I found it interesting that this book has circus performers at its main characters. This is something I never expected to read about in a Dungeon & Dragons fantasy novel. Still, I was quite pleased with the story and found I really liked all of the main characters. And as for the bad guy in the book . . . ohhhh, he is a nasty one. I didn't like him at all!
Ree Sousbe has created another entertaining book in the Dragon Codex series and I find that I really enjoy her writing style. Dragons are one of the most interesting creatures in the realm of fantasy and I love that I am getting to know more about them. I am really glad that Mirrostone is publishing these companion novels to A Practical Guide to Dragons. The series is just plain ol' fantastic.
Overall, Silver Dragon Codex is a great story with an interesting twist or two that will keep a young reader engrossed until the last page is read. Now that I know about six different types of dragons, I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next stand alone novel entitled Gold Dragon Codex. It should be another fun ride.

June 22, 2010The weakest entry into the YA series Dragon Codices, The Silver Dragon Codex takes place in a small circus. Jace, the young high wire acrobat must help Belen, a beautiful dancer, acquit herself of the charges being brought by a white robed mage from Palanthas. Surely the beautiful young girl cannot actually be a silver dragon in disguise... and even if she was she couldn't possibly be an EVIL silver dragon who destroyed a whole town, can she?
Jace, Belen, and a few others from the circus head off to determine the truth behind the story. Along the way they are confronted by werewolves and a chimera, and the truth turns out to be far more complicated than it first seemed.
I say this is the weakest entry so far because the other stories in the series are well thought out and all of the varying story lines are wrapped up neatly by the end of each book. I find this to be important in a YA novel. The Silver Dragon Codex leaves many things unexplained, and also suffers from problems with continuity and weak writing. For example, we are told that a character has limited familiarity with their language and never uses the word “I”, but on the same page, that character uses “I” three separate times. I also found this book to be a bit darker than the others, and for some reason it came across a bit dull. Perhaps it is because the characters are less likable than the ones in previous novels, or perhaps the problem is the overly complicated plot. Although this is an okay book, and readers following the series may want to try it, it is nowhere near as good as previous books in the series.

Again, not my favorite Dragon Codex, but still a very good one. Have and his friend Belen live in a circus, but when his act get interrupted by an angry wizard, he will have to quest to clear Belen's name. This book has it all: a fighter, secrets galore, and a very evil villain. This is another usual book in the series, even though I did read them all in a weekend, so it might just have become usual.

The Silver Dragon Codex is a fairly good read. The only thing I didn't like about it was the way it was written; it seemed too simple and that the author didn't polish it as well as it could have been.

This was an enjoyable book about dragons, magicians, elves, monsters, friendship and evil. Some details don't quite make sense, but if you ignore those and just enjoy the story it is very fun. Recommended for kids grades 4-6.

This book was awesome their was a lot of exciting parts from kids jumping off of dragons to kids being chased by minotaurs.
