This is one of a series of pocket-sized guides on a range of subjects. Arranged thematically for easy reference, each "Pocket" has been written by a subject expert in a way that aims to make the information easily accessible to readers aged 8 and up. The reference section at the back contains extra facts and figures. This book covers rocks and minerals. From the rarest gems to the most common rocks in the Earth's crust, it is a catalogue of minerals grouped by colour for ease of identification.
I like this book except for I have a different version but I love it it's really good in it reference a lot of stuff in it I would like more of these good book I recommend it for youngsters and young adults and adults very good very illuminating
Got a bit basic in places (anybody who can read a word like "chalcopyrite" probably isn't going to be needing quite so many bare-bones explanations). But very nicely designed, pretty, and compulsively readable (like I've come to expect from DK guidebooks). At first I was a bit put out that they didn't include the chemical compositions of the substances along with the text...until I found that they were listed in one of the (many) appendices. :)
