A "Sugar Creek" book is always an excellent read! This series feature a group of hard-working, hungry-eating boys. They all are good comrades with one another and their predicaments usually teach good Christian morals. In "The Blue Cow" one boy learns true patience (for with cows, things go a bit slow) and also forgiveness is learned.
Have you ever seen a blue cow? The book “ The Blue Cow'' is about the sugar creek gang and their adventure with the new kid who moved in, Shorty, and his blue cow.The book was written by Paul Hutches and is a mystery and adventure book. Christainty plays a big part in the book because of how it affects the characters actions. The book is from the perspective of Bill Collins, A kid who lives in Sugar Creek, a farm neighborhood. I believe the book “ The Blue Cow'' is a great book for young people to read. The book has a lot of different characters and each has a different personality. The book has a lot of different adventures that make the story interesting. The book has great character development and as the book goes on you can see how all the characters change. The book is very descriptive and every scene really describes what's happening. The only negative about the book is that there is a lot of information about animals and farming that might be boring to certain people. I would give the book a nine out of ten. The character Bill is the narrator of the Blue Cow book. He has red hair and freckles. Bill is a loyal friend because of the interactions with Shorty in the book. Bill makes sure that Shorty can’t just say bad things about his friends without him saying stuff back. Also Bill is a good christan and follows all the rules as a christian. This leads him to have faith in everything he does and makes him make good decisions. Another character in the book is Poetry. Poetry is also a loyal friend because he stands up for his friends when people say bad things about them. He has the nickname Poetry because of how many poems he has memorized.
The Blue Cow is a novel for readers who love classics and the countryside. A classical novel about friends helping out each other, and making sure others don't get into trouble.
This is part of our book club called Sugar Creek Gang Book Club which is taking a leap back in time to my boyhood. These were books written mainly for boys that were available in our Christian school. They are fun stories with outdoor themes like fishing, hunting, farming, etc. that have either a mystery or problem to work through. They teach Christian attitudes through the characters in the stories.
Anyway, it was fun to read this one. I can't remember if I read it when I was a kid, but even now, my interest was grabbed and I enjoyed the quick read.
I found this to be such a nice, refreshing read. Take a step back in time and look at the world from a 12 year old boys point of view. I love the family dynamic and hard working, responsible example this book portrays while offering a humorous twist and play of words that just wants to make you laugh. My younger brothers loved it, and I loved reading it aloud to them. There are so few good books out there that combine honest, hard work, godly morales, real struggles, faith in God, and humour for younger boys these days. A great, quick little read!
