Celebrate the art of living loud with the sassiest, smartest, hottest gift book From Erin Smith―a hip, irreverent visual artist with a nationally distributed gift line and a unique, pitch-perfect look―comes a mash-up of art, essays, and laugh-out-loud observations designed to find humor in the everyday mundane. Includes hilarious make-your-day quotes "The super girl cape is in the laundry...you'll just have to take my word for it." "I'm so damn happy it's like discovering blue cheese olives all over again." "As much as I try to be an easygoing, stretch-your-wings–and-fly type, I just can't stop trying to burst people into flames with my mind." …and many more!
I was introduced to Erin Smith’s art when a friend sent several of her cards to me over time. My friend exclaimed she loved her work so I googled the artist. Found her website and enjoyed her collages and snarky comments/sayings. After perusing her website I saw she had authored a book. Well. I must have this and get one for my friend! Ohhh Out Of Print. Fear not, I found two almost new (they looked new to me—yay!) copies online at shops that sell new and used books. My friend was thrilled to get the book and I enjoyed the heck out of it too.
A mini memoir with pretty interesting art pages done by the author.
PROS: A quick, light read with author humor that reminded me of "Let's Pretend This Never Happened".
CONS: a little repetitive.
OVERALL: perfect for a quick and although it didnt make me LOL - I loved the theme of the book and that was it is okay to be wierd and it is even more okay to be surrounded by people that love you and share your humor.
I guess I would call this sort of a coffee table book. I think I thrifted this, which seems about right for how this book should end up in your life. It’s collage style and I love how it reads, it’s pretty silly.
I’m Dangerous… I’m Not Gonna Lie is like a Victorian scrapbook meets the meme world and it is unquestionably the funniest book I have read in a long time. Each page has a decoupage look of vintage women with some “given” alcoholic drinks; others have their arms arranged as if throwing gang signs and saying “wad up?”, and then there is some type of quote or saying to go with the picture. These are seriously the funniest things to have found in a book and shows that women can embrace their inner bitch, be snarky and full of attitude, but everything they say is so the truth and relatable too.
“We raise our girls to reach for the sky… but sometimes it’s still just all about the dress.”
This is a fun book that you can read over and over when you need a chuckle. Erin Smith is a talented artist whose work is generally reproduced in greeting cards and calendars. But now there is this book - I'm Dangerous..I'm Not Gonna Lie for us to enjoy. Smith utilizes mixed media with funny saying to create her art. So funny...you'll enjoy this book.
I love this book! Now I want all the cards, art, accessories, and mugs! She is more inappropriate than other artists in this type of style and I love it. Her pictures and short stories are funny and relatable. Just became a fan of Erin Smith that's for sure :)
I've enjoyed Erin Smith's art for years, but this very funny collection of her humor, along with reflections on life and creativity, had me laughing very, very hard. No one rolls a jaundiced eye better!
Loved this book. I bought it for a friend's birthday and ended up buying two more copies to share. It's wild to see in print the things you thought were only in your head.
The art is good and enjoyable but works better individually than as a group. If I saw these in my Twitter feed I would probably find them funnier and more novel.
