I agree with what others have said about this book... it gives a lot of examples but it doesn't make any suggestions until the last part. I also read it and now feel worse about my co-dependency issues, how can that be? It feels like a mountain to climb, as everyone is co-dependent in some form or another. There are some interesting insights but Melody Beattie writes about the subject in a kinder, more compassionate way. I'd read her books before this one!

The stories of different peoples experiences with codependency are sometimes helpful perspectives but the book doesn't really delve into the methods for changing these patterns until the last 1/4 of the book.

Not great... I was hoping for more information about living with and working through codependency. Instead it was mostly examples and explanations. I appreciated that this book didn’t focus on living with an alcoholic, but other than the last couple chapters, I got nothing out of it. I wouldn’t recommend.

I found the examples helpful. There was a lot of push toward psychotherapy. I was left with a "Now what?" feeling because I cannot afford a psychotherapist.

Lots of examples, but not enough focus on how to work on problems.

The book tried to do everything at once. Still worth a read. I took notes.

Excellent book for those just learning about co-dependency ( like I am ) full of examples to get you familiarized with all the facets and tons of suggestions about how to help yourself work through the issue . However for someone more nuanced in all the fascination that is codependency , I imagine it would be repetitive and too basic . I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to learning more about codependency because of it !
