Lacy Lee Linden has just learned that Thad Gannon is coming back to town. She’s been taking care of his grandfather’s farm since he left four years ago to become a popular television star on the Hollywood soap, Malibu Mansion. When her younger sister, Allison made the announcement Lacy felt her stomach twirl. Thad Gannon had been her high school crush, until he dumped her for another girl at her first prom. She had never fully forgiven him for that, nor the fact that he had abandoned his grandfather who lived next door.Seeing him would mean digging up the past and that was not going to happen. She had buried some memories long ago deep inside and worked hard every day to keep them that way. When he arrived, Lacy was going to give him a piece of her mind . . . if she could even look him in the eye after what happened that night after the prom. - Contemporary Christian Romance -
I really wanted to like this book. The theme of child trafficking in China contrasted with sexual assault in North America seemed full of potential and all proceeds from the book go to support charities against child trafficking. Unfortunately, there were some serious shortfalls with this book. First of all, this book needs an editor or even just a proofreader. There were so many mistakes! And that really bothers me. Also the three plots in the book (Lacy's issues, Thad Gannon love interest, child trafficking) didn't meld together as well as they could have. Some parts went into way too much detail and others not enough. A great concept for a book, but it needed some work.
If you can get past the lack of editing, to remove typos/grammatical errors and lack of punctuation, that made it confusing etc, this is a wonderful read. Just today, I finished the 3rd in the series - 'Lacy's Legacy' - and enjoyed it. Not the greatest books ever, or anything, but a Christian read to look at how people cope/don't cope with what life has thrown their way. Things like rape and trafficking do happen, so seeing how people deal with it, even in fiction, is important. I'm a mother of 5, so was not bored by the many touches of home life...
The lead character frustrated me but so realistic in reality. Sometimes authors make their characters have more personal insight than is possible. Not in this book. Enjoyed it, love the reason why she wrote it and will read the sequels
I liked this book. it had a good plot and deals with issues that need to be addressed. there are a few editing errors, and I felt the author could have done a little more to explain a few things earlier on, but I liked it. I feel it's worth reading
this is a story about how people overcome the bad things that happen to them and how this woman and her helped find. young women from China that been sold in to slavery in China and brought them to U.S.A.
I liked the book. There are multiple editing errors that I found confusing. I do like the author's support of organizations that help victims of human trafficking.
