I admit I’m not one for the self-help section of the bookstore, but the premise of this sounded interesting so I figured I’d give it a shot. I thought it was very easy to read, and I finished it quite quickly. It was great to see the improvements the characters in the book made, even when it wasn’t easy to do. It gets you thinking about your own life and what you can do in times you might be struggling with something…and let’s face it, who doesn’t have problems from time to time? And we need all the help we can get. I don’t have a lot of people in my life that I can count on for good advice unfortunately, but I thought a lot of the precepts I read in “Realizing You” will help me now and in the future. Thanks!
This book really is about you, the reader. It’s about unlocking your natural potential – which you were born with – by realizing who you are: your talents, your personality, what you’re enthusiastic about. And when you gain this knowledge, the sky’s the limit as to what you can do. Before you say, “Oh, no, another self-help book,” know that this is absolutely unique. Realizing You is an engaging work of fiction. The authors bring you into the lives of the characters as each of them attends a conference at a posh hotel. The speaker everyone has come to see is Robby Aihn, bestselling author of Realizing You, a book of self-discovery. Every character has come to the conference for a different reason. Some truly believe in the authors precepts; others are skeptical and are there for their own reasons. The cast of characters includes a businessman initially having no interest in “New Age stuff”, there only to close a business deal; an ambitious bellhop at the hotel; a famous baseball pitcher facing a career-ending injury; the ghostwriter of Robby’s book who received no recognition for the wildly successful work; and Robby’s own family, including his estranged wife and teenaged daughter, who is having trouble with her parents’ separation. Through these people – each of whom is facing his or her own personal challenges – we learn the precepts the authors are putting forth, and which are, in turn, what Robby Aihn’s book is about (a book within a book – inspired). Each learns a lesson from one or more of the workshops, and each experiences an epiphany from that lesson. I will not go into those principles here; the reader needs to discover those personally. Some are unlike any others that this reader has experienced. Kudos to the authors who have created a new genre; the self-help novel. This is truly one-of-a-kind. Now, the fact that all of the characters seem to live “happily ever after” may seem a bit heavy-handed, but is forgivable in light of the lessons being taught. The principles in this book force you to face you own demons and you come away with a greater understanding of yourself and your role in the world around you. No promises here; you may not suddenly have a life-changing experience upon reading it. But, you may over time, and at the very least it gives you food for thought.
Robby Aihn is the bestselling Author of a self help book, Realizing you. He has a conference in Dallas and there he encounters, his ex-wife, his daughter and several other people in his life. Everyone seems to have their own problem they are dealing with and hope they can change to better themselves.
I loved the originality of the book. The writing style is unique, which I really liked. It is fast paced, the characters are true to life and are dealing with personal problems, even Robby himself. I feel that most people will enjoy this original and fun read; Realizing You.
