From the life cycle of a butterfly to the first trip to a doctor, this series provides a unique blend of fiction and non-fiction titles for young children that encourage the first step of literacy--speech. Engaging stories and rhymes and original artwork prompt little learners to start talking.
This is a Nonfiction Informational book. I chose Going to the Doctor, because I feel like many children have anxiety when thinking about having to visit the doctor and that a book to put them at ease is a good idea. It shows what the doctors office looks like, what kind of questions the doctor will ask, and what tools they use during the visit. At the end the child got medicine to help him feel better, which helps show readers that doctors are kind rather than scary. When reading this I found that it was very clear cut and that the pictures of the smiling child helped! This book is definitely for Pre-K to 3rd graders.
The twin text I chose is a Fiction Fantasy book called, The Big Itch (Clifford The Big Red Dog). He has to go to the vet (his doctor) and he doesn't want to go because he's scared. However, after he does go he feels better. This correlates with the first book showing that the doctor isn't scary and that they are there to help not hurt! The book is at the same reading level Pre-K to 3rd grade.
