A desecrated tomb, a missing relic, and cold-blooded murder. The streets of Dragonfell are awash in blood and the King has called on Tiadaria, the last swordmage, and Wynn, her quintessentialist companion, to uncover the nature of the darkness.
What they find is more dangerous than they could ever imagine and from a source they'd have never expected. Now Tiadaria must defeat an enemy that knows her almost as well as she knows herself.
The survival of the Human Imperium is on the line and time is running out for the last swordmage and everyone she holds dear.
I write the same type of books I love to read: tales of science fiction and fantasy where anything can, and frequently does, happen. There’s nothing better than a rollicking good adventure and my number one priority as a writer is to be an amazing travelling companion for those intrepid explorers who pick up any of my books.
I live in South Central Pennsylvania with my wife and two children. When I’m not working on my next book or story, I enjoy music, reading, and playing games.
I really like hearing from people who have enjoyed my books. Please don’t hesitate to connect with me on Twitter or Facebook. For the latest news and information about me and my books, check out my website at: http://martinfhengst.com.
There was conflict between main characters, the book was action packed, and the Tia's development kept growing. One of my favorite parts about this book is that it sheds light on Faxon a little bit more. You begin to see him in more of the teacher position when the book goes to Tionne's point of view. Tionne was a great add-in as well. Hengst uses her again and gives her another purpose to the story. Not even the trilogy's story - the actual universe's story. Additionally, Hengst introduces another of the dark races: The Lamiad. The pace of the book was fast and brutal. Romance twists, plotting in the dark corners of Dragonfell, or violence is always occurring throughout the book. While this did not allow me to savor the book, it kept my interest throughout the story and kept me attached.
However, there are some parts of this story that were unsatisfactory. When I first began to read this book, I was hoping that some of the newer major villains were be more involved. But the book, and this is not particularly a bad thing, focused more of the threat that started in the first book.
All of this is vague, but I don't want to spoil anything. Overall, I loved the book and it is my favorite of the trilogy. Will be starting Volinette's Song this evening!

Highly recommend this series.
SENSUALITY RATING: No profanity; No Euphemistic "code words; No sexual encounters
GENRE: Paranormal Fiction; Sci-fi Fiction
SYNOPSIS: Once every attempt possible is utilized to destroy humans. With the use of the Quintessential Sphere, power is given to both the Karundi and the Humans.
WHAT I LIKED: Giving of one’s life.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: Tianna all over the place during the last battle. Ridiculous and she should have been dead in “many, many” instances.
OVERALL RATING: (2) stars because It dragged and dragged along until the one adventure fighting time where everyone joined in and not a few characters. zzzzzzz O_O
I haven't read the first two books in the Swordmage Trilogy, but after finishing The Pegasus's Lament, I plan on changing that! This book is a very exciting fantasy read. Really, I could almost say visually stunning because Martin F. Hengst does an amazing job of painting a picture for the reader with his words. Although this is part of a series, I was able to jump right into reading this. Those that enjoy losing themselves into vivid fantasy worlds will really enjoy this book! I know that I did.
the selendria series is one of the most thoroughly entertaining series I have read in quit a while. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who has love of great story telling.
This book was much better than the second book and reviled the first. We get to see more of our main characters feelings and there is an open-ended kind of feel which I hope suggests that we will get some more from the swordmage.
5 stars really isn't enough to my way of thinking. I have yet to finish the series, but I would recommend it to anyone with a love for the magical and mystical with a twist of darkness!
It felt like the characterization was rushed in this one. The introduction of Tionne and Nerilla were instrumental in moving the storyline forward, but it here addition seemed flat.
I was not very impressed with this 3rd installment. It just didn't have the draw that the first two had, maybe it was earlier death of a main character.
