So cute - Bear has to hibernate after three fun seasons frolicking with Beatrice, and she wants to keep him company but can't find it in her to sleep all winter. How can she share the joys of winter with Bear? Sweet storyline and illustrations, with a nice use of anthropomorphism.

"Hibernate, of course! That's where I'm going too. I heard it's beautiful there this time of year!" said Beatrice [Rabbit].

Where are the parents?

Not for the first time, when reading-and-reviewing a picture book, I'm asking: "Where are the parents?"

Because life for Beatrice would have been so much easier if a parent or caregiver had informed her about what "hibernation" means.

BE THAT AS IT FICTIONALLY MAY

This turns out to be a story where Beatrice figures out wonderful activities to help her avoid being lonely while her friend Bear is sleeping. And these ideas are just ingenious.

Wait until you read the splendid ending, Goodreaders. Creative surprises are coming!

FIVE STARS and thanks to author-and-illustrator Monica Carnesi.

Miss 2 and I like to explore different books at the library and try to get different ones out every week or so. This was one of the ones that she chose. I liked the book more than she did. It was quite sweet; Beatrice makes a scrapbook to share winter with her friend since he has to hibernate through it.

Beatrice and Bear become friends and play through spring, summer and fall. When winter comes, Beatrice learns about Bear's time to hibernate and she decides to hibernate with him. The problem is that bunnies don't hibernate. Beatrice comes up with a fun idea.

Carnesi creates a beautiful friendship between Beatrice & Bear, not only through her words, but with art that is endearing. (Make sure you keep an eye out for pool floaties!)

A fun book about friendship, hibernation, and making the best of time apart. The cute illustrations match perfectly with Beatrice the rabbit's eternal optimism.

At first I wasn't sure where the author was going, but as you read along, you see the rabbit making sure the bear doesn't miss a thing. This book was very heart-warming.

Monica Carnesi, has written and illustrated a creative tale of friendship with a hidden learning opportunity. Beatrice and Bear become the best of friends and spend the entire summer together. Time comes for Bear to hibernate and Beatrice thinks it's a sleepover. She realizes that the sleepover is a little too long and that Bear is missing all the great things about winter. Beatrice decides to put a book together describing the long cold months while Bear is asleep. After the hibernation is over, Beatrice and her friend reunite and look at the book together.

A sweet, funny story about friendship, hibernation and seasons. Bear and Beatrice are both simply drawn yet expressive, and they are dedicated to each other - "winter is RUINED!" cries Beatrice, when she realizes she isn't such a great hibernator after all. The pictures are lively and clear, with plenty of white space and a balance between full-page spreads and series of smaller moments, like Beatrice tossing and turning as she tries to hibernate. Perhaps the two friends will have more adventures.

So sweet and cute it nearly brought tears to my eyes! Beatrice the rabbit is distressed to hear that her best friend Bear will hibernate for the winter. Since she doesn't want to los his company for the length of the winter, she decides to hibernate with him. Doesn't work. My favorite illustration is the one in which Beatrice, lying beside bear in his den, dons a sleep mask to help drift into hibernation. When she comes to the conclusion that rabbits don't hibernate, she comes up with a way to capture the season so she can share winter with bear when he awakes.

Sleepover with Beatrice & Bear by Monica Carnesi is new, and wonderful fun. It's time for hibernation, and Beatrice the Bunny thinks it's going to be a great time sleeping over. Unfortunately lots of misunderstandings occur, and Beatrice realizes she's going to have to capture winter in a scrapbook to show to Bear "after". Humorous stories and delightful illustrations make the book a great story to read aloud with young children, and a way to introduce several new concepts, like hibernation.

Beatrice (a rabbit) and Bear are the best of friends and play together throughout spring, summer, and fall, but when winter rolls around Beatrice feels a little left out when Bear goes into hibernation. Like the best friend that she is though, she devises a plan to share all the sights and sounds of winter with Bear through a scrapbook.

Really cute read aloud with a clever and satisfying conclusion. Ink and watercolor illustrations. PreK-2.

I can't imagine a collection of friendship books without this title. Sleepover with Beatrice & Bear written and illustrated by Monica Carnesi is one of those huggable books. Beside friendship it could be used to discuss hibernation, the seasons, perseverance and ingenuity. Get out your bear, rabbit and squirrel puppets for a story hour filled with joy and warmth.

Themes - Bear, bunny, squirrel, hibernation, friendship, seasons. This is a really sweet book! I love the illustrations as they add to the humor and enhance the story. I couldn't help saying "Awwww...." many times throughout the story. It is about a bear and a bunny who become friends but when it is time for bear to hibernate bunny tries to join but ends up with a different plan when he can't fall asleep. Very Cute!

Beatrice, a rabbit, decides to join her friend the Bear in hibernation for the winter. This is a great book about friendship and about how no matter how different two people/animals are, they can still share things with each other. It is good, also, to talk about the changing of the seasons and how different kinds of animals adjust to those changes.

I love the artwork in this book and the story is touching; all about how to be a friend whether you are together or spending time apart.

Beatrice just doesn't get it. When Bear says is going to hibernate, she's ready to go along for the ride. It becomes painfully obvious from the very beginning that Beatrice has no concept of what hibernation is. She just wants to be wherever Bear is.

This is an absolutely wonderful book to introduce the concept of hibernation to young children.

Beatrice, a rabbit, decides to join her friend the Bear in hibernation for the winter. Try as she might, she is unable to sleep like Bear and gives up but finally gives up and has a better idea of how she'll share the winter with her friend. Delightful illustrations and humorous story. I would give it 3.5 stars.

I'm not sure this would work as a storytime book simply by virtue of the small illustrations and many word-bubble "asides." But still - this book is delightful. And PERFECT for early literacy learning - parent and child can create their own winter scrapbook to share their adventures with other family! Illustrations reminiscent of Will Hillenbrand are soft and filled with sweet detail.

Beatrice and Bear met in the spring and by winter they were great friends. What Beatrice didn't realize is that Bear wouldn't be around during winter. Read this book to find out the wonderful surprise Bunny gives Bear when he wakes up. Sleepover with Beatrice and Bear by Monica Carnesi is a gentle and funny friendship book for ages 2 - 7.

Beatrice and Bear met in the Spring time. Their initial meeting didn't go so well. but the two soon became best friends and spent all their time together as the seasons changed. As Winter approached and Bear prepared to hibernate, Beatrice looked forward to the sleepover, but soon discovered that she wasn't sleepy, so she spent the winter making a surprise for Bear when he woke up.

Beatrice the bunny doesn't understand when her friend bear leaves to hibernate. She tries to go with him. When she finds that does not work she spends the winter creating a special gift for bear. Good story to read to preschooler to age 7.
