A good college basketball book about three teams located about a half hour within each other, Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State. The author, Barry Jacobs, chronicles the 1992-1993 season, a great year for one team, a decent year for another and a terrible haunting year for another. This book really took my back to watching college basketball that year as it talked about players such as Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill, Thomas Hill, Eric Montross, Donald Williams, George Lynch, Derrick Phelps, Brian Reese, Cherokee Parks, and Jim Valvano, Less Robinson, Coach K and Dean Smith. No game is missed, and the detail is very good although not over the top. I thought some of the parts where it talked about some of the players could have gone into a little greater detail, but it wasn't bad. Good stuff if you're a college basketball fan and a must-read if you live in North Carolina or are a fan of at least one of the three teams.

Three Paths To Glory: A Season on the Hardwood With Duke, N.C. State and North Carolina by Barry Jacobs (MacMillan Publishing 1993) (796.32363). This is a view of ACC college basketball from the inside. Writer Barry Jacobs is a Duke alum, but the season he wrote about here (’93) saw UNC win the National championship (with Eric Montross, George Lynch, Donald Williams, and Pat Sullivan). This is ironic, for it followed two consecutive years of Duke as National Champs (Christian Laettner was a senior in ’92 and Bobby Hurley was a junior). My rating: 7/10, finished 2003.
