Detective Paytah has spent his entire life fighting to overcome ignorance and gain acceptance in a world too quick to judge. Always willing to take on any challenge, the tough-as-nails Native American has never shied away from the truth. Until he meets Tyler Baker, that is. Tyler represents everything that Paytah hates; the blond haired blue-eyed gay detective with a penchant for bending the rules was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and a champagne glass in his hand. When Paytah is assigned to work with Tyler he anticipates that the partnership will be difficult. After all, working high profile serial murder cases are always challenging. But as the case of the decade unravels, so does his ability to control his attraction and to deny his own needs. This book by J.J. Massa has it all - passion, desire, intrigue, and an unforgettable ending that promises to take you to The Edge.

So, about me. I’ve been writing sensual romance—and some other stuff—for about five years now. What a busy five years it’s been, too. I’ve met a lot of great people along the way.

I’m blind and have been for more than a decade. I don’t go anywhere without my best buddy, Cosmo. He’s my guide dog. Once in a while, he turns up in my stories, incognito, of course. He and I travel when we can via planes and trains; we don’t really care for long car trips. Hmmm…what else? We have a couple of cats that keep us on our toes. They’re good for tons of aggravation and entertainment. I got them for Cosmo, but I don’t think he appreciates them as much as he should.

We love the beach, though we don’t get there as often as we’d like. I live on the Jersey Shore so the only excuse I have for not hitting the sand is that it’s cold and besides that, I can’t drive.

When I’m not writing, I teach blind people how to use adaptive technology so that they can surf the web. I meet plenty of interesting people that way and it keeps me from ever getting complacent. …Not to mention the inspiration for stories that I get. It’s a job that keeps on giving. Actually, I’m not sure it’s really a job; more like a thing I do.

Cosmo likes chunky peanut butter and rawhide bones. I drink way too much coffee—black and strong. I like red wine at night sometimes but he’s a teetotaler. He stays away from alcohol and chocolate these days.

And that’s all I can think of just now. I hope you enjoy the website. Mae’s done some great things with it. I’ll keep writing if you keep reading. Just bear with me if I slow down now and then. Thank you. I really appreciate you stopping by.

Normally I look forward to most JJ Massa novels, but this one just kind of aggravated me. The characters were awesome, individual and I could totally get into knowing them.

However, everything else was totally cliche. The whole set up reason, who was behind it and why, the show-down of the last scene, the whole sleep-with-you-once and now-love-you-forever .... and I'm sorry, but the feeling up of Tyler while he was drugged up on ER drugs was just. Um. Creepy.

A waste of 3.5 hrs, basically.

Some tough good honest beta readers could have helped this one out and more research on police procedurals done.

This actually had a good start, buuuut it didn't stay that way.
The plot needed to be fleshed out more and the dialogue between the 2 mc's also needed to be beefed up a bit.
Some parts of the story was choppy.
I could also see insta lust turning into something more, but the author went with the insta love instead.
Also the ending was abrupt, like the author just wanted to be done with it.

I had a few problems with this one. I know it was pretty short, but it concerned me how quickly 'straight' Paytah fell for Tyler. And then there was Paytah 'feeling him up' while Tyler was unconscious. That, to me, is kinda creepy and borders on molestation. I did however like the background plot and the book would have probably worked better if the plot had been the main focus of the book.

Wasn't there some kind of kerfluffle surrounding this book a few years ago? Accusations of plagiarism or some such, not unlike the whole Cassandra Clare situation? I can't quite remember.
