Turning bachelors into Casanovas, one cowboy at a time

Meg Ripley may run the local diner, but she has never been one to get involved in the small-town craziness of Willing, Montana. Now suddenly she's entangled in it? In addition to harboring a pregnant runaway, she's been enlisted to transform scruffy bachelor cowboys into husband material for a reality dating show. Including her ex-boyfriend, and the only man she's ever allowed herself to love, Owen McGregor.

Owen is still devastatingly handsome, and the passion between them hasn't faded with time. Unfortunately, neither have the issues that drove them apart. But that doesn't mean Meg is ready to turn him into the perfect man for someone else! Because despite their past, Meg suspects that Owen is still the one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As a rule, cowboys are always a plus in a book. When you add in the fact that the main couple was one of those couples that has a misunderstanding that tears them apart only to be brought back together years later and I was crazy about it. I didn't even want to put it down to make dinner.

Meg was a great character. Considered head-strong and hard-hearted by everyone in town it wasn't surprising to learn that she'd had her heart broken before. And in such a small town it's hard to outlive the gossip that would create. I was surprised that more people didn't seem to know that she'd been involved with Owen when they were younger, even if the majority of people didn't know how involved they were. But it seemed like most of the people she was friends with hadn't lived in town at that point.

Owen was a bit of a pain in the butt despite the fact that I came to love him. He grew up privledged and not used to being told "no" which can be a bit of a problem when someone finally grows up. But it was nice to see him actually mature during the story. To realize that in his mid-thirties he's not going to always get his way. You can't just snap your fingers and expect everyone to stop everything they're doing to do your bidding. You have to fight for what you want.

And come the end of the story he did just that.

And I was extremely glad that the side characters weren't just background characters. I thought the author did an excellent job transferring points of view so that while Meg and Owen were the two main characters, the entire story wasn't told from just their points of view. The story wouldn't have been as awesome as it was if it wasn't written in just that way. So kudos to Kristine Rolofson. Kudos.

Owen McGregor is back at his family ranch to get it ready for sale after his bachelor uncle passed and it needed to be fixed up. His mother is in a home and often does not know him when he visits and on the way home he stops in the local cafe for a breakfast. An informal meeting of the town council is being held at the center table and he soon finds he has been pulled into a crazy town project to bring a reality TV show to Willing, Montana to bring in more people and revenue and save the town.

Meg Riley is the owner of the cafe and he just wants to forget that she broke his twenty-year-old heart the summer his father died of a heart attack. Meg has never fallen for anyone else so now they are both single and the spark is still hot. The problem is getting past their history and communicating about both old and new feelings for each other in the middle of a town make-over for all the bachelors.

Classes are given in how to make small talk on dates, good table manners, grooming, cleanliness and to stop belching in front of ladies. These good old Montana cowboys try hard to impress the Hollywood crew but they are still waiting to see if the town will become the center of a new series...

The story is realistic, pretty funny with lots of interesting characters but in the end they all pull together to help each other and for the common good of the town so it is a great story with lots of love holding it together.

I enjoyed this book! The story kept me interested, I liked the characters (except Jerry, the mayor, who I wanted to smack, but I'm guessing that was the idea), and I thought it was very well-written. It's not a big, dramatic story, but it was very well-told, I thought. I also liked that it was a sweet romance, with plenty of romantic scenes but no sex (I know I'm an anomaly these days--I don't read inspirational, but I do like my romances sweet).

I agree with other reviewers, though, that it felt unfinished, which is why I gave it four stars. Did the reality show come to town? What happened to Shelly and her baby? Did Willing come back to life? Did Shelly end up with Les, or perhaps Hip? I want to know, darn it!

I'm hopeful that the little "Willing to Wed" subtitle on the cover might indicated that this is the first in a series? I sincerely hope that's the case, because I'd read a series about Willing, and will check out other books by this author as well.

ETA: After I published this review, I just noticed a little blurb off to the side that this IS going to be a series! Yay! I'll be watching for the rest of the book!

Clean Western small town second chances romance with a smart diner owner classically train chef with her childhood first love that got away, the richest guy in town Mr. Owen McGregor.
I do love a second chances love story because we do such stupid selfish things when we're becoming adults. We look like adults after 18 years, but we are just practicing and trying it out for many years and this is particularly true with the sweet first love that Meg and Owen started and then failed at in Willing, Montana. Owen McGregor was fairly clueless with women in general, but that maybe because he is a loner and doesn't seem to understand humans in general, whereas, Meg understands the people around her, but she isn't interested in having a relationship with them. So she doesn't lead any one on and crushes the men's hopes in the bud (read: after the first date).
This was a good story about a little dying town trying to survive as people move to bigger towns and the many entourage characters are cleanly defined and simply loveable. No sexy scenes, just some kisses.

Not bad, but really nothing to rave about.
I had the feeling the little half-dying town did not seem totally real, too idealistic and filled with too many good-willing people and none of any other categories. I did not manage to get really engaged in any of the characters, especially the leads who seemed unable to get over their breakup as teens and not being mature enough yet to just speak about it. Hence most of the light angst they suffer from was just self-inflicted because of this lack of communication, which I found rather irritating.
At one point in time, the leads started being in a relationship again, except I honestly could not say whether they just shared a few kisses or spent the night at each other's. And while I do not mind some stories to be chaster than others, it felt overly prude as if anything sexual would be a shame.
I will probably not look forward to any other book from this author and do not care for the remainder of the series this book introduced.

I could tell you this story in five minutes and you would probably feel like you read the whole book. There was kissing, but it wasn't romantic. There were moments that could have been funny, but I didn't laugh. There was tragedy, but I didn't care. The idea behind the story is great, but I was always waiting for the point, the climax, for it to just "get good." Then I finished the book and it never did.

This was a pretty good book. I got this as a freebie and was impressed. I would give this 3 1/2 stars. It was fun, a little humorous, sweet, had emotions, great characters, good dialog, a great feel, and a good HEA. I would definitely like to read more in this series. I liked the town and all it's personalities. This would be a good anytime read. For relaxing, something to cuddle up with, or for just passing time. Enjoy!

Cute, clean romance. Felt like we didn't get to know the characters very well, though. Also, seems like there are many more stories that could be told based on other characters in the town, but there is zero set-up for that the way this book ends. The book also ends without any closure for one of the main focal points - the TV show.

This is part of the 'Willing to Wed' series. The mayor wants to bring people to the small town of Willing and gets a TV promoter to feature the town in a reality show about husband needing brides. Meg Ripley runs the local diner. She and Owen Mac Gregor knew each other in high school and were going to elope but his father stopped them. Each went on with life but are now back in Willing, Montana. Can Meg get over her hurt that he never called and Owen forgive her for what he thinks was letting him down? Loved the characters and interaction of the story.

This seemed more like Chick-Lit than romance as the main couple only got about 1/3 of the time. Not enough for me to really feel them falling back in love. In fact I don't think they spend that much time together really.

I did like Shelly and hope she gets a happy ending eventually. The whole premise of the book - TV dating show never really panned out, so no idea if it happens, which I thought was weird.

Protagonists have an earlier history, yet keep one another at a distance until a public relations push by the mayor involve them in various projects to promote tourism in their small isolated community. It all begins with the lack of eligible women for the town's bachelors. But, someone needs to sharpen these unattached males on cleanliness, manners, dance and anything that may appeal to women imported from LA. Who is the matchmaker?

Great read

Heartwarming story about a couple of kids all grown up and Still stuck in each other a decade later. Meg and Owen are the perfect couple. It just took them a while to come back to each other. Really sweet story with a whole town in the mood for love.

This was more like a 2.5 star read for me. It’s okay for what it is, I guess, but a little underdeveloped.

This was an alright read. Again there was nothing new; you hear about a guy that left town, leaving a female with a broken heart behind, so you already know they're going to end up back together.

Questions/Comments:
We know Loralee was around 62 years old. Yet, strangely her YOUNGEST SISTER had waited 41 years before getting married and was married for 30 years. Huh? Someone's not very good at math...

Shelly's on the bus...an old guy dressed as a cowboy walks past her to take a seat. "She (Shelly) gathered her belongings and was the first one ready to get off the bus...the old guy was polite enough to let her go first." How was that possible if she was the first to get off and he'd been sitting somewhere behind her?

I was confused about this line. It's in regards to how Meg has had all these different guys propose to her over the years and only accepted once. She's talking with Owen. "'You said you only accepted one proposal.' Her chin lifted; her gaze went to his. 'I've only made one'." Huh?

"Class would begin in ten minutes and the men had been trickling in, despite the fact that hunting season began in two days." So?

Owen, Meg, and Lucia are in the diner chatting. They're talking about Lucia letting her boys learn to ride horses. Then here's the strange/random dialog:
"Owen said. 'Unless you don't want them to.'
Lucia-'No, they'd love it, but-'
'Hey.' Owen, his voice low and gruff, stopped her protest. 'I've heard good things about your husband. And I respect what he was doing. If his children want to ride horses and you want them to ride, then that's what will happen as long as I'm here."
(Why did he randomly bring up her deceased husband?)

It's the night of the Halloween party. "She'd dressed as the bride of Frankenstein again." There's a part that made me think it was Loralee- "On the other hand, it could worse: Loralee could have talked Shelly into...yadda yadda..yadda..Meg could see it now, Frankenstein's ex-wife accompanied by the newer, fertile model." So who was the bride? Meg was Annie Oakley, Shelly was a hippie, and Loralee was a 1950's waitress.

It would have been since Les and Hip both seemed interested in Shelly, to have known how old they both were. Especially since Hip and Own both refer to Les as a kid.

This was actually a better book than I expected, and if you like the idea of a book with not sex and/or swearing then this is going to be a perfect pick for you.

It did leave plot lines open, but since this is a first book in a series, I expect that those secondary story lines will be picked up in future books.

I definitely will be buying the next in this series. It's not that I'm prudish -I just get tired of the same thing over and over and love finding something different.

The story backing this romance is about the mayor of Willing, Montana trying to get people and businesses to come to this dying town. One of the ways he is going to try is to bring a TV crew in and use the men (cowboys) of this town as 'bait' (sort of) think "The Bachelor" in rural Montana!

This particular book center's around a couple who had been a couple, 20 years ago and had broken up. Now they have a chance to make amends while working for the good of the town.

It is a book well worth the read and I recommend it to anyone looking for something non-angsty or mild, yet romantic (in its own way), or set in an interesting part of the country.

Kind of silly, kind of fun. The gentlemen of Willing, Wyoming have taken matters into their own hands...they want wives, and they're willing (haha) to import them if necessary. Enter the idea for a reality TV show that would bring females out to their ranches...only, they're no where near ready to make this happen.

Enter the Husband School. Meg, one of the few single ladies around who is entirely NOT interested, winds up giving lessons in attracting women. Only she's the one attracted as a rancher from her past returns and seems to want to rekindle their romance.

OK, maybe this isn't the best written review I've done. I'm exhausted, and these things have piled up. I liked the book. It was funny. The sub plot with Shelley made it a lot more interesting, and now I have to track down other books by the author because I want to know how this all comes out in the end. Overall, I have a lot of respect for what Kristine Rolofson did here. It's a good book. If you like fun romance, then read this one. :)

A sweet romantic story set in Montana. This Harlequin Romance is about a small town that needs to get back on its feet because it is slowly dying out. There are too many unmarried men and not enough families growing up in town any more. The story it set around Meg, the operator of the local restaurant, a pregnant teen looking for the father of her unborn and the town trying to woo a reality TV show into filming there.

Kristine Rolofson writes well. The story flows nicely and it is plotted well. The idea is sweet and charming and you really enjoy the characters and want them to succeed. It is a squeaky clean story beyond the fact our poor pregnant teen Shelley made a mistake and got pregnant;before she shows up in the story. The most hard core the story gets is kissing and messed up hair.

Meg and Owen are obviously the main heroine and hero. They're obviously going to work through their issues and get together, or it would be a very disappointing book. How they do so is the meat of the story and what keeps us reading. Their story is sweet and heart-wrenching and satisfying.

However, what about the rest of the rest of the town? There was so much invested in Shelly's story, it would have been nice to know how she ended up. The main theme was trying to save the town. Well, did they? So many unanswered questions. It was as if the author thought we would only care about the two main leads and once they were taken care of, that was it. It just didn't feel finished. Too bad, because otherwise it was a cute, fun read.

I really liked this contemporary western romance. The characters were well thought out and developed. The back story was given in little bits throughout the book and not all in one chunk.
Speaking of characters, the town was full of them. There were lots of supporting chacters and they were all interesting.
The book isn't meant to be comedic but the premise of this book is a hoot. It made the story original and entertaining. A small (very small) town tries to lure a producer into doing a reality show there. The headaches and preparations should keep the reader smiling.
I will be reading the sequel, The Husband Show, when it is released.

I like a good cowboy romance. I'm a cheese ball that way.

Meg and Owen have a long history (who doesn't in a romance novel). Meg still lives in the town she met Owen in but he's been away for so long memories of him had faded; and the likelyhood of him showing up one day were slim. Until he does. To eat breakfast in her diner.

Old memories are lifted and this romance takes off. With other small town stories in the mix this book is a great fast read for a hopeless romantic like myself.

Who can resist a sappy romance with a character that reminds me of Anson Mount? Um... not this lady! ;)

Got this free book on Amazon the other day. I thought it was time for a cowboy read.
Meg runs a small cafe in a small town in Montana, she left for cooking school traveled around cooking but came back home.
Owen and Meg were in love once and he went off to DC to work. Owen is back in the area taking care of the family ranch now that his uncle has passed away.
Their attraction is still there, now can they get past it to each other.
I really enjoyed this lite romantic story. Well written characters. Lots of humor in this town of folks trying to get a reality show to come to town, I laughed aloud.

Cute clean romance but nothing special. There's an excess of senseless internal dialogue (she dumps him and breaks his heart but he's the scumbucket for not pursuing her hard enough...ooo-kay) and blaming back and forth to keep the H/h from getting together--dragging out way too long with there not being any actual obstacles, except the heroine's neuroses, in the way of true love. Warning: abrupt ending--don't know if this is a prequel to a sequel or what, but it seemed like it. On the plus side, there's a dog.

I liked The Husband School. Meg runs a diner. The Mayor has crazy idea to have a TV company come in and do a show about all the single guy in town. They want to bring women to the town. Meg then has classes to help the bachelor cowboys learn how to treat women. Of course, a guy Meg knew years ago returns to town. Romance is there. Didn't tell if the TV company came to town to do a show or not.

3 stars - Good book. I enjoyed it.
4 stars – Struck a chord, made me think or question
5 stars – Something about it haunted or stayed with me long after I finished it. Unforgettable.

So many books wouldn't exist if their characters actually talked to one another instead of skirting issues, and this is one of them. That being said, it was interesting and enjoyable.

This book left me feeling flat. The days of finding a Harelquinn that is actually a good read are gone. For once it wasn't about a foreign billionaire that was burned by love and somehow the underprivileged help with her tiny untouched body saves his dark soul. The premise was much different however there was no passion. Maybe its just me but when I see the title romance I imagine there to be romance.

This was a fun story. The romance was kinda a side story, but the book was good enough I didn't mind. The main characters were two very flawed people who had a ways to go before they let there pride down enough to realize what they want. There are many main/side characters and I realized this is going to be a series where each person has there own love story. I am so glad Harlequin is doing a clean romance line. This book had no religious undertones and it was pretty clean. 16 and up.

Totally enjoyed this story! The title alone was enough to get me to read it. I've read all three of the Willing to Wed books. Set in the small town of Willing, Montana, this trilogy is about friends, cafe owner Meg Ripley, widow and single mother Lucia Swallow, and owner of the local bar Aurora Jones.

Also read The Husband Project, Willing to Wed Book 2 and The Husband Show, Willing to Wed Book 3. If you love a heartwarming read these are the books for you.

A cute and "wholesome" little romance (no steamy sex here, folks).

I did find the Hollywood connection and TV show premise a bit hard to swallow (especially if the mayor has been in Willing for over two years). But, that aside it was a fun (and FREE) rainy day read. Definitely good for YA readers.

It was cute but so much left open. I hate short stories like this and how much it's wrapped up at the end. Love to see more of Shelly and les.. And I tho I I missed something g with the dirty shame?? Was it explained why no one wanted to talk about it? I didn't realize it was from a new "clean" line of books, I do love some steamy parts in my books.

This was a cute enough read with lots of funny moments brought by the absurdity of teaching men how to allure women into a relationship/marriage. BUT and it is a big but, the romance between the two main characters does not take off. The sparkle is just not there and we are left with lots of funny moments and wishing the romance would also capture our hearts.
