Rate this book
Mark Ritter, a single father struggling to raise his young daughter, is facing a bizarre reality. His mother has died suddenly, leaving behind a carefully hidden death certificate stating that he, her only child, had died as an infant thirty years ago in a town he'd never heard of. Now, an uncertain past is reaching out for him, beckoning from the deceptively peaceful community of Harmony, Colorado, where long-held secrets lie hidden away in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

Peeling away the layers of intrigue is only the beginning of Mark's disturbing quest far the truth. For a heinous long-ago crime has bred fear and suspicion in the town of Harmony. And now, its web of lies -- intricately spun for decades -- is about to be exposed, and someone will kill, to keep them hidden forever.

I definitely would NOT recommend this book. I was so disappointed. It had such great potential but the story just went in a weird direction. It turned pretty dark near the end and though I've read dark books before and liked them, this one just didn't do it for me. I wasn't crazy about the main character, Mark, either. Too whiney, too irresponsible, too something.

I can't remember reading a book where every single one of the characters was unlikeable!

Though the premise was good, it grew quickly tiring with too many characters and a cartoonish aspect to things. Better to stick to the Patterson novel of the same name, which I really liked. Perhaps I should create a tag "when the book blows." I seem to have hit a bunch lately.

Creepiest book I've read in a long time. And some of it was a little hard to swallow.
