Loftus Hall, on the wind-swept Hook peninsula is a three-storey nine-bay mansion rebuilt in 1871, which incorporates parts of an older medieval residence built in the time of the black death and the previous late 17th century house of the Loftus family. A fine example of Irish Palladianism, Loftus Hall harbours countless trapped, tortured spirits and is a known site of psychic disturbances. Here, powers of darkness dwell with innocence, amid the hopeless insanity of a young girl who died of a broken heart.
The definitive study on the Loftus Demesne and its past comes to life in a story based on research, facts and paranormal experiences. Evidence and comprehensive historical research are intertwined with popular myth and beautiful images of Irish architecture. This book uncovers all that lay hidden beneath its abandoned walls and has not been forgotten. In silence, the house speaks through these pages and ultimately, tells its true story.
Meticulously researched, the haunting mansion of Loftus Hall is explored in depth from an architectural point of view, through the experienced lens of a photographer who has captured its true essence, elegance and spirit. Additionally, the stately home reveals itself to an empathic and intuitive writer, voicing its silent desires so that justice may finally be done.
Loftus Hall is indeed haunted, but by whom? A creative and factual work that transcends the popular myth of the devil and the young Lady Anne, unearthing what was hidden during centuries, bringing to light new theories and undisputed facts. Perhaps it is not only Loftus Hall, but rather the land on which it lies that holds an even darker secret and older story; the dreams of many souls who left this world and the nightmares of those that are still living.
Walk with us as we guide you through Loftus Hall, Ireland’s most haunted house, to discover its untold story; originally unveiled in its 666th anniversary and updated in this second edition.

Helena B Scott shows she is no stranger to the tarot in this compelling book on Loftus Hall. Scott has many talents and these shine through in her writing as she takes the reader on a journey, by the hand, through the history of Loftus Hall. Well worth the read. A truly compelling narrative.
Paul Clements of The Irish Times said, "Based on a Gothic story supported by historical facts, Scott’s text marries appealingly with Steve Meyler’s striking photographs of Loftus, its demesne and surroundings to create a substantial landscape-style book... A mysterious and alluring landscape, the peninsula has attracted invaders from monks to Vikings and from Normans to Knights Templar."
Helena has produced a great read in the Loftus Hall enigma… writing in a third person style … she offers haunted, spiritual, historical and factual movement. She then surprises with the associated Tarot readings as a ghostly background to the story and land as a whole. I totally recommend this book and look forward to many more in the future. Fantastic read …. Sir Andrew
‘Loftus: The Hall of Dreams’ is stunning, informative, and thought-provoking, and gave me goose bumps right from the first poetic words. I have read a lot of history books in my time, but nothing quite as unique, gripping, or one-of-a-kind as this book. It is written as a gothic ghost story, relating the tragic but true story of Loftus Hall, but it is not a fiction title. The real history of this captivating house and its occupants, and the events transpiring in this part of Ireland at the time, have been presented in meticulous detail, but the author Helena Scott, does not just inform you of the facts, she takes you on a captivating journey through time, allowing you to feel and imagine what life was like within the walls of Loftus Hall. As for the photos by Steve Meyler that accompany this compelling historical account, they are hauntingly beautiful, at times dark and eerie, but glimmers of light shining through broken windows and through dark clouds give a sense that there is still beauty and hope that remain despite the terrible events that have befallen Loftus Hall. Having personally walked within the old rooms and empty hallways of Loftus Hall, I can say that there is no other book that captures its true essence as this one does. This is not just another history book, it is a work of art.
A book of beauty as well as an excellent read. It's hard to describe how beautiful the book is if you haven't seen it. It really is something to treasure and keep, a substantial hardback that has been exceptionally well produced and designed. The photographs are breathtaking, very atmospheric and not simply accompanying the text, but enhancing it. The story itself is fascinating, intriguing and far from the usual narrative of historical research. Ms Scott manages to inject so much more into this complete and compelling history of Ireland's most haunted building. Walls may have ears, as the saying goes, but the walls of Loftus Hall have somehow given up their secrets to the intuitive hearing of Scott. She allows the house to tell its own story and there is so much more here than the old folklore and rumours some of us may have heard before. This is definitely a collector's item, a pleasure to own and flick through long after it has been read and re-read. The images are striking, the story haunting. Well done to the author for meticulous research and a stunning and definitive work.
Tremendous book. As a fan of the supernatural and haunted houses etc, I really enjoyed Helena’s book. It is very well written. I have always been curious about Loftus Hall and the tale of Anne Tottenham. Helena takes you on a fantastic journey through this tragic history. You feel as though she is taking you by the hand and guiding you through the Loftus Hall estate. An amazing amount of research went into this book and I can’t stress enough that for fans of Loftus Hall and it’s tragic history, this is the book to check out. It comes in a gorgeous hardback which is great for hardcover book lovers such as myself. I look forward to seeing what Helena does next.

This is a great book with lots of twists and turns. The writing style of the author is mesmerizing and magical. It’s an interesting book and very beautiful photos as well. I recommend this book if you’re interested in history and the spirit realm.
“Hall of Dreams” is an evocative, immortal love story illustrated in a mystical context by Tarot and featuring the enigmatic Knights Templar, weaving a historical background. A rich tapestry, delightfully crafted by talented author Helena B. Scott I am not usually a fan of “ghost stories” but the narrative enticed me into the spiritual realm, sensitively pleading the plaintiff’s perspective on behalf of the deceased victim, seeking justice against her evil oppressor. With allusions to the local esoteric “Ley Lines” within the story, the location beckons travelers and inquisitive tourists to visit this ruggedly beautiful corner of Ireland to experience the idyllic wonder and architecture which sets the scene for this other worldly mystery.
An utterly compelling read. A totally unique and thought provoking approach to telling the history of Loftus Hall. Ms Scott seamlessly ties together history, Ley Lines, Knights Templar, Freemasonry. The huge amount of research that must have went into writing this book certainly paid off.Superb piece of literature, loved it.
