When River’s already broken life shattered further on her sixteenth birthday, she was forced to be with the wrong best friend of her brothers. She was meant for Sammy but circumstance and black mail forced her into a relationship with Danny, a troubled, abusive partner. Leaving the only boy she ever loved to flee. Now four years later he has returned. When her feelings and missing parts of herself that left with him return also, loyalty, restraint and love will be tested. Can she find a way to leave the threatening clutches of Danny, to finally be saved by her childhood love? Or will Danny’s hold on her tighten when more life shattering events consume their already troubled lives?

When Sammy returns home, after four years of being away from the girl that broke his heart, he’s not prepared for all his old feelings to force their way straight back into his heart. Questions that were left unasked when he left begin to plague him, when the sudden relationship between River and Danny all those years ago seems all the more confusing now. Don't get me wrong "The Fucked Up Broken had promise, but unfortunately the execution was all wrong.

The Characters
River:
She's short, has D cup size breasts and a big ass, oh and she hates her body. Yes I learned all of that within the first couple of pages.

She's in an abusive relationship, constantly waiting for someone to save her! How about saving yourself! I mean I get that the events that shall not be mentioned happened when she was 16, but you're a grown ass woman! Start acting like it!

This girl was constantly feeling sorry for herself and it got old pretty quickly. I hate to say this but she was just plain stupid and weak! Don't even get me started on how everything she did was for her brother!!!

Danny
"Tell me you love me beautiful"

I have nothing to say about this character. Okay the dude was just fcuking nuts!!!

Sammy
"Twink"

He was just constantly shagging River, everywhere and anywhere!!! It was disgusting!!! Where's the seduction, the charm??? But then again, why would he even go to the effort, when she just gives it up?

Jasper

I don't get why this guy was even in the book.

There were a few other characters, but I won't mention them.

Lastly
1. Did anyone else notice that every single male character in this book had seen River naked???

2. River was the only female character in this book. Except Maria and Chelsea, who were portrayed as sluts, and they were barely in the book anyway.

This book was just:

and everyone in it was just plain:

I honestly have nothing else to say.

Edited Jan 22. 2014 to add couple of thoughts about the ending. I finally read it, and you were right guys, it is "epic" :-D. Also, what I read in the acknowledgments SHOCKED me. (Read my thoughts bellow the review)

***0 stars***

The only word I can think of, that describes this book is "stupid".

description

Already couple of pages in I regretted buying this book. But decided to push through it in hopes that it will get better. It never did.
description

These two MCs were the dumbest characters I've ever encountered. And not only them, the rest of the bunch were wackos too.

Twink:
description

Her character was tried to be portrayed as this broken girl, who had been dealt a shitty hand in life. Her father was a monster, her brother is a junky, and she has an abusive boyfriend. She had to let go of her dream to become a dancer in order to save (?) her brother. Those are the elements that could have made this book a great dark and angsty read.
What I saw was a rude, obnoxious and slutty drama lama, who had eyebrow malfunction. She has the biggest tits, the smallest waist and the finest ass. She is a tiny, delicate and just darling of a girl, who is constantly hyperventilating. She thinks her body is dreadful, and she has difficulty finding clothes that she can fit her Ds into. But to everyone else, she's a perfect eye-fuck candy.
I breath agains his ear, before I bite down on his lobe. Our breathing is causing my chest to rub against his abs.

I got the weirdest visual ever. They are both standing, and yet, her tits rub agains his abs, but her mouth is agains his ear. I imagined her looking like some kind of miniature giraffe.
description
How else can she suck his ear and rub her chest against his abs at the same time?

She is with a guy that she despises. She hates him with every fiber of her being, but she has to be with him in order to keep her brother safe. What the hell is this? I got to 70-something-% before I DNFed, so I don't know what was this big secret, why she was with that guy. But up until that point, all Twink did was begging her asshole of a boyfriend to keep supplying her brother with pills. She never tried to get her brother off of them, or help him in any way. Heroic sister my ass.

She is a dancer. She keeps wearing her dance clothes, jumping on some platform that her boyfriend build for her, talking about some studio that she keeps going to, and everyone who sees her dancing is in awe. But not once were her dancing described. What kind of dancer is she? Where did she learn to dance? All I got was She is beautiful when she moves, I'm a dancer, I'm going to dance for a little while and I was dancing. That's it!

One day suddenly, when her long lost love comes back, she barge into his house and starts cooking. Even though there is a lot of bad blood between them, and 4 years have passed since last time they saw each other.
She goes from being shy vanilla girl, to a slut in nano second. Because he brings out the animal in her.
description

God, the amount of DRAMA when those two got reunited. I almost broke my eye socket, from rolling my eyes so much. Even simplest things were exaggerated to epic proportions. There were a lot of sentences like this:
A single tear slips free from my eye, creating a wet path down my cheek.

Of course she still loves him. He's the one. Why? Beets the hell out of me. The man in question is the biggest bowl of dicks.

Sammy:
description
Now let's talk a little bit about the guy of the hour. Who the f@ck calls a grown man 'Sammy'. His full name is Samuel. That or Sam would have done it. But she and all of his friends call him Sammy. What is he, 5?
Our Sammy is a real treasure. When Twink ran in to cook for him that first time, he said this:
"Fine, we'll eat the shit you've made."

Real charmer, isn't he?
Now, his mother is a low life whore, trailer park trash extraordinaire. He can't stand her guts, understandably.
But what does it say about him when he calls her names, in front of his friends, his little brother, the woman of his dreams, and lets his friends have at it, too???
I was born from a womb of a hateful whore.
***
"You're such an evil bitch, do you know that?"
***
Jasper stands and walks over to her. "You know what, maybe you should have done what River's mom did because you are a waste of air, you stupid, old, wrung out bitch. (…)This isn't your house no more, bitch."
Jasper put her in her place while I'd stood frozen from her hateful mouths. I'm grateful to have him there.

What the goddamn f@ck?

Then we have him slapping Twink. That was a huge what-the-fucker. But don't worry, those were the love slaps, it's their thing, you know, it's how they express their feelings.
He rushes me, and I slap him repeatedly.
***
I lift my hand and slap him again.
***
I tap her cheek, not hard enough to hurt her, but enough to get her attention.
***
My body reacts without my brain's permission. The slap to his cheek carries though the house…
***
He grabs my shoulders and shakes me, and then his hand comes down on my cheek.
***
"You hit me," I breath, my chest rising and falling with every intake of breath.
"Don't be dramatic, it wasn't that hard, and you hit me first."
I lift my hand and slap him again. He purses his lips and in frustration and then slaps me back.

And the she says that he...
He is always gentle when he takes my body.

F@ck, that eye-roll right there actually hurt :-S.
description

Then they start banging.
Look at him being gentleman and not bragging about it to his friend:
"She likes it rough, and she's insatiable." I rub my hands though my hair. "I've never fucked this hard or come that much before."

Jesus, how much did he came O_o?
The scene, where he f@cked her in front of his friend, was my undoing and reason for DNF. He did it because her boyfriend called her vanilla and he wanted to prove that she had a slut in her. He came, she came, his friend came, everybody came.

Then we have atrocious writing. Weirdest descriptions of people and actions.
He looks to his bare wrist and his brow twitches when he realizes he isn't wearing a watch. I can't help but smile, and let my eyes molest his flesh. His boxers leave little to imagination; they grip his hips just below that perfect sculptured V that men have when they've worked hard in the gym.
***
He's totally in his own world, his eyes gazing at the floor in front of him.

Is he levitating? WTF?
Her tongue probes at my lips; I open and massage my own to hers. She sucks at my tongue, forcing a moan from me…
***
My insides go ice cold despite the heat pouring from my overworked body.
***
"Sammy!" I cry out as my sex floods with my arousal.
***
He needs to dip his knees to accommodate the hight difference, giving him extra leverage when he propels himself upward,…
***
She literally eye fucks me so I feel the need to shower.

She literally eye-fucks him! Good God!

I swear, reading instruction manual for IKEA furniture is more exiting than this.
Out of hundreds of books I've read in my life, I've never seen one with so many semicolons in it. Author has some kind of semicolon fetish. And yet, half of her commas are missing, there were one too many 'its' instead of 'it's', for it to be a typo, and some of 'the' were just randomly placed.

This is one of those books that I really, really regret spending money on.

Addet Jan 22. 2014>

The jig is up. The secret is out. Apparently, she stayed with her abusive boyfriend, because he tricked her into thinking that her brother killed their father. She stayed with him out of fear that he will tell the cops and her brother will get arrested. But that's not the "epic" part. Actually, there were few.

1. The dancing platform in their backyard, that she was hopping on, was build on her father grave. She literally danced on her father's grave, every day, knowing he was buried beneath it!

2. They find a dead chick in their house. She begs her douche of a boyfriend (not the one she loves) to help her to get rid of her. She will do anything, ANYTHING for him, stay with him, love him, have babies. There goes her dream to be with Sammy. AGAIN!

3. Her brother committed suicide. She came home and found him in a pool of blood, proclaimed him dead just by looking at him (because all dancers are trained medical examiners). Now, all attention whores out there, listen up and learn! She drags him out of the house, to the middle of a backyard, takes a gas can and plans to set them both on fucking fire!!!!! Because she doesn't want to live without her brother.

4. One thing leads to another, her boyfriend kidnaps her. Brings her to some cabin. Derek (cop? detective?) tries to assemble a team to find her. He talks on the phone with the police department, shouting that he doesn't want any rookie cops on the scene, who don't know what they're doing, to screw things up. But he ends up going to rescue her with Sammy, who is not even a rookie cop, just some dude! They storm in and rescue her. SWAT team, read and learn!

5. Happily ever after. They have a kid name Michael, who's supposedly Sammy's, plus, the other dude was sterile, but few years later, his coloring (?) changed and it was obvious he was not. When their son Michael finds out his mother is pregnant, he pushes her down the stairs because he doesn't want to share his mommy's love with anyone.
THE END.

The ending of the book still had plenty of weird phrases. The analogies that author uses are just silly.
Here are few more "fancy" phrases:
My life is bleeding out in my tears,…
***
I hear Sammy's voice bleed through my sobs.
***
"It's over, baby. We'll get Derek fixed up and get you looked at." I specially didn't say get her "fixed" because like me, she can't be fixed, but we could be broken together, and fill the cracks that are left from such a fucked up life.
***
I pop the buttons open on my jeans and push them from my body, leaving me bare and ready to be inside my women.
***
I forgo make-up, just spraying light perfume so I'm not a complete mess.

But here is the part that shocked me the most : in the acknowledgments author thanks tons of people for helping her to put this book together. "To my wonderful beta readers, I really got lucky with you… (names of 8 beta readers). (…)Thank you to (name of the EDITOR!!!!), for editing The Broken, you did amazing job!"
On their blog (name doesn't matter) author said that she will use them as beta readers in the future. For that reason alone, I will never ever read any of her future books.
After I read this I thought Oh.My.God, all those people pulled a really nasty one on her. I hope they aren't sitting somewhere, giggling about it now. As for the 'editor', she should be fired on the spot!

2--Talk About a Train Wreck--Stars!!!

That was a HOT MESS!!! It was like a bad episode of Jerry Springer.

Chugga Chugga Chugga Chugga Choo Choo.....all aboard the CRAZY TRAIN!!!!

I don't think I've ever seen so much drama....there was too much drama. Everybody was fucked up....every last one of them.

I think if you dug really really really deep, the storyline maybe came from a good place but it just got overloaded with too much drama.

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

SPOILERS AHEAD! SPOILERS AHEAD!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!

I'm too lazy to spoiler tag everything!

The story begins with River, our heroine. It's apparent that something bad happened to her four years prior which was escalated by the love of her life, Sammy leaving town. She's basically blackmailed in to being in a relationship with Danny. Danny is keeping River and Blaydon's (River's brother) secrets.

So you're kind of strung along wondering what happened and why Sammy left. You can tell Danny is fucked in the head.

Sammy returns after 4 years.....which I found really odd. I mean why now?? But whatevs. Sammy and River pretty much pick up where they left off. Psycho Danny is out of town so River and Sammy start going at it like rabbits. First time they have sex...in the butt.

I kid you not. Sammy can't understand why River is with Danny....she's telling Sammy she loves him and Danny she loves him too. Blah, blah, blah. Then she has a little three-way action with Sammy and Jasper.

The rest is just a whirlwind of fucked-up-ness....

Turns out Danny and Blaydon killed the dad for almost raping River....they buried the body IN THEIR BACKYARD.
Danny kills Blaydon's pill popping girlfriend and makes it look like Blaydon did it.
Blaydon kills himself.
River attempts to kill herself only to be saved by Jasper and Sammy. Danny shoots both of them and kidnaps River.
River's pregnant. Danny's "sterile".
Sammy saves River again. Danny gets away.
Danny breaks in to River's house. River shoots him.

I mean do you think enough people died? I think we needed like one more. Because let's not also forget the mom commited suicide. And Danny also killed his dad and sister.

At this point.....

But I was practically done and thank GAWD I didn't quit before the epilogue because there are no words for the ending!!! NONE! ZERO! ZILCH!

Flashforward 5 years....River is pregnant again. They're telling Michael (the kid they already have) that he's going to have a sibling. Michael, who is 5, proceeds to push his mom down the stairs saying he "doesn't want to share" their love with another kid. River and Sammy turn around and see the evil in Michael's eyes.

Guess Danny wasn't so "sterile" after all.

Ok so you take some white trash people and every drama thing possible and throw it together and BAM this is your book.....

River (aka Twink) misses Sammy who left four years ago and she is now with Danny the psycho and doesn't love him or want to be with him but is stuck with him for reasons unknown at the beginning of the book...Danny moved himself in to River's house and lives there with her and her brother, Blaydon. Blaydon dates Maria who is a druggie along with Blaydon.

Sammy shows up back at home with BFF, Jasper, to as far as I could ever tell take care of his little brother Jase since he usually is with the Dad and to start a new business which rivals the business River's dad owns that her and Blaydon currently run. Why Jase never came to see the mom in 4 years Sammy was gone IDK....

Are you still following me?

 photo wtf_zps7487e7ee.gif

Ok so as soon as Sammy shows up in town, Danny leaves for business (wow how convenient) and River decides to slut it up with Sammy and has sex with him almost immediately

So the River's dad is MIA

This is what else happens in the book b/c at this point I started skimming and found out from JAnne and Sara what was happening....

Nope I'm not kidding all this shit happens in the book...Now granted the writing wasn't terrible that's why it gets two stars but it had too much crazy in it for me... You may like it....I however, did not.

5 emotionally disturbed, dark and gritty stars from me

My review is also on my Facebook blog (http://tinyurl.com/mg95ecm)

Ok here goes, I've just finished this book so my thoughts are still in turmoil, and for an honest review I have to just get what is going through my mind out..

This book was so fucked (and I apologize if this offends anyone) up on more levels than one, like a gun firing off shots one after another in quick succession this is what it was like reading this book, so many things were going on, boom boom boom one jolt after another!!

I love my dark, gritty reads but seriously those other books have nothing on this book, times I just wanted to turn off the kindle and stop that roller coaster of a ride, but like a corporal punishment I had to keep reading..

I loved Sammy, but I did despise him at the beginning of the book only because I didn't understand why he walked away all those years ago, once your fed that information I totally understood why he left..Did I condone his decision, probably not, but then this book wouldn't be half as good if he had stayed and fought for her..

This train wreck all started on River's sixteenth birthday, which is right in your face from page one, and I will admit it did choke me up a bit, that's how raw, gritty and emotional this book is..

I had pieces saved out of this book that I had written down that I was going to share in my review but I feel just saying what's going though my mind is enough to convey how good this book is, I'm not even going to pretty it up by throwing pics on my review, it doesn't need to it to show how much this book effected me..

Also a very hard book to recommend due to all the nasty disturbing situations brought to the core in this book, so go in prepared that this isn't a read for the light hearted, it packs a huge punch..

And just a warning if that wasn't a bugger of a cliff hanger I don't know what is!!

WTF?!?!

Caution!!

Too much

and too much

The only thing that kept them as Upper White Trash was the fact they didn't live here

Sorry this did not work for me, too many problems being thrown all over the place. I like, dark, twisted and angsty but this wasn't that it just got to be silly at a certain point.

Dark NA 4 Stars
Please note the word Dark...This is not your normal lovey dovey love story.... no..this a one car crash of a story..

River is finally sixteen, saving and waiting for Sammy one of her brother Blaydons best friends, to be with him and become his girlfriend.
But life has a cruel way of changing things, because instead of being with Sammy she is now with Danny

Danny has a hold on her and River will do anything to keep her brother safe from the events that have just happened that night, even if it means letting Sammy go..
Heartbroken Sammy leaves..and River knows she has lost the only boy she has ever loved...
4 years on..., her brother is now dependant on drugs and River is being smothered by Danny, his possessiveness is at the point of psychotic and he would rather kill her than let her leave..She is trapped forever..

Then Sammy returns...

My thoughts
OMG what a roller coaster story this was. Starting with the prologue which to be honest had me hooked and intrigued.
Right.. its a dark story and River, Sammy, Danny and Blaydon all had tragic upbringings, they were all broken by events that happened in their life.
Danny is sick, there is no doubt about that, his unhealthy obsession with River is off the charts and as I said before he will never let her leave and he blackmails her and uses her brother as means to keep her.

Some parts of the story were gripping, with its dark storyline but there were other parts I couldn't connect with..

I did really like this, it kept my interest to the end..And what an ending it was...Perfect and dark
Shivers
I believe this is the authors first book..I think this story needed to be a bit more polished in parts but I think she has the makings of an exciting author and I'm sure she will agree that she is learning all the time. I look forward now to Jaspers story..

3 Broken and Cracked Stars

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

16 year old River was saving herself for Sammy, her older brother's best friend. She has loved him for years....ever since he moved in next door and spoke to her through the hole in the fence. They were inseparable. He was her rock....her savior. Her ticket to happiness.

On the night of her 16th birthday, all of her dreams of being with him were crushed...disintegrated. If Danny would have never showed up that night, Sammy would never have left town.

When he left.....he took her heart and shattered what remained of her soul. He left her broken.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Sammy loved River. He waited for her to turn 16 so he could tell her how he felt and finally be with her. But on her birthday, he found out that Danny swooped in and claimed River. Sammy was shattered and broken beyond repair.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So he left town...

Now, he's back.

4 Years Later

"You can't change what's already passed, you can only prepare and be ready to prevent it happening again."

River has existed in a day to day hell. Every since Sammy left, she has felt nothing. She has been numb...and that's ok. She had to be numb...she had to pretend...for Danny. And to protect her brother, Blaydon. River is with Danny out of fear and necessity. She is trapped.

Danny is obsessed. He is sick and he is twisted. He can't live without River. He can't function without knowing that she is his and she loves only him. No other man can or ever will touch her. He controls her. He purposely does things that will guarantee she will stay. River hates Danny. And she hates what he holds over her to make sure she stays.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

River is a dancer (thank God the author didn't make her an avid runner.....I've about had it reading about runners).
Dancing is her escape from hell. It's the one piece of her true self that remains after Sammy left her behind. The one thing that Danny hasn't taken away from her.

When River sees Sammy for the first time in 4 years, she freezes. She can't believe he came home. But why?

"Breathe for me, Twink.

Ok....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I was, to say the least, a bit reluctant to give this one 3 stars. I really enjoyed the storyline. So, let me explain why....

I had a hard time connecting with the characters. Their issues were very real, but their feelings and actions, and how they went about them just irked me.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

For instance....

-River is terrified of Danny. Her body literally trembles when she hears his voice. Yet, she can't/won't leave him. She is though, willing to risk stolen moments with Sammy, and has no guilt what so ever. She lacks a conscience and doesn't seem to always consider the consequences of her actions.

-Sammy is the same way. Danny is a so called friend of his, yet he doesn't hesitate to drop his drarws at the first sign of lust. Dude, what happened to "bros before hoes"....

-I didn't like how after 4 years, when Sammy and River see each other for the first time....it's almost like nothing ever happened. There is no real drama between them. No build up. No fighting. No animosity. That bored me.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

-River hates that Blaydon has a pill addiction, yet she allows Danny to enable him and keep him doped up. She should be trying to help him kick the habit....if she truly loves him. He is after all the only family she has left.

-Danny moved in with River when her dad died. Blaydon has lived in the same house....under the same roof...for the last 4 years....and never noticed the abuse or the bruises or the fact that his sister has almost completely shut off from life. HOW?!?!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And I'm sorry.....a few more dislikes for me...

-I didn't like how Sammy basically fucked River any where and every where. They were constantly all over each other....whether it be touching in some way or eye fucking each other or trading secret looks. Even when Danny was close by. Disaster.

-The first sex scene. Oh man. For me...that was a train wreck. It was just strange. He's been gone for 4 years and right off the bat....he fucks her in the ass. She's never done it before and begs for it. There was no seduction what so ever. No charm. No charisma. No flow.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

-I had a real issue with some of the paragraphs. There were spots where they were literally a page and a half long. That is too much to read at once. I kept losing my place and ended up skimming.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

-At times, it was difficult to keep track of who was talking in a scene. There was a lot of he said and she said, but there would be multiple characters present. I had to re-read a few times to figure out who said what.

-The author seemed to be going for an Americanized story but it just sounded off at times.. The banter between River and Sammy seemed awkward. Some of the word choices or phrases just didn't click. There were words that were over used, like dick, and words that....well, almost made me put the book down.

That's right....the one word to kills any sex scene.... MOIST .
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The book was by no means a bad book. I loved the premise behind the story. The author made it so that the reader wanted to keep reading to find out exactly why River was with Danny and what must of happened to make her feel that she had no choice but to stay and be miserable.

I loved Jasper....even though he seemed a bit out of place in the book. His personality brought some humor to the story and lightened it up a bit.

The prologue hooked me into the story. It seems to be going in a sweet, happy direction...but then BAM! Not such a happy situation. The epilogue.....well....it was good but it had me saying what the fuck?!?! I may be in a category of only a few, but I thought the epilogue was the perfect ending. ANd because...well...it was the end.

I didn't think this book was as dark as it was made out to be. It was just broken people from very broken, fucked up homes. The abuse, the drugs, the sex....all very realistic issues.

5 Broken Stars!
I've read this author before and I loved everything she wrote.
So after reading some of these shitty reviews it was making me feel like maybe I shouldn't read this.
Now I'm wondering if they read the same book?
It had everything I look for..A Dark read that's Sexy and full of Angst. Literally,if there is a warning label I'm all in:)
Thank God I went with my gut because this was an epic read.
I highly recommend it.
Im on to book two in this series and I can't wait.

It was disturbingly good from start to finish!!

I loved the psycho~ness that was Danny. Loved the sweet/roughness that was Sammy. And... loved the clown who was Jasper! Talk about a disaster from the beginning. The abuse that plagued all of them except for Jasper. Sammy could never figure out why River chose Danny over him when he always loved her and was sure she felt the same but there was a few reasons why that you soon find out. Danny was dangerous! One look at River by another man would spark evil. She was terrified of him although he was NEVER rough with her during love making which was so weird to me being the way he was, although I do believe he loved her and that's why... in his deranged brain that is.

Some classify this as dark... I do not. My shelves consist of several similar catergories even if I intend one. That's why dark is marked because it has applies to my shelf as that is marked involving at least one~~ dark-mental-abnormal. This is mental and abnormal to me but not dark... Danny is just plain screwed up is all.

Don't get me started on Sammy! he is delicious! And he gives her more than Vanilla! The very first encounter... hell yes!

I will never/ever be sorry for the over-use of this laughing gif, obviously it's my favorite!
The ending... holy crap... yeah that's right, holy crap! Fantabulous!

WTF?? Seriously? I wish someone would slap this author upside the head for that ending.

I seriously can't believe the book ended like that. If someone told me the publisher accidently published the wrong ending, I would totally believe that. I mean WTF? I don't even know how to rate this one.

You know how sometimes you read a book and you just know it's going to get mixed reviews. Others will love it while others will hate it. That's how I felt about this one. The story was actually okay for me and I had planned on rating it as a 3+ STAR read. Total guilty pleasure read. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon. But the very last page was just plain stupid. Totally. And while I hate to rate a whole book based on an ending I didn't like, the last 8 sentences were so conductive to major eye rolling that it's the only thing I can think about when writing this review. I mean come on? Seriously? Urgh!

I'll leave this one at 3 stars because I'm not sure it's fair to rate the book lower due to one page I didn't like. It's unfortunate that when I think back about this book, that ending, which was totally unnecessary and pointless, is all I'll remember.

4.5 Cray Cray Stars

Totally Cray Cray. These people have lost their freakin' minds. Who does this shit? This is Jerry Springer Ready. This would be some chair throwin', cussin', total melt down, must see afternoon trash TV. And I should know...I'm from Tennessee. Just sayin'.

River is an 20 year old girl trapped by her sense of loyalty, responsibility and her crazy ass boyfriend, Danny. The boyfriend that took her virginity at 16 because she "owed it to him". WTF? River and her brother, Blaydon, have a secret. One that Danny knows and hold over her head.

A part of me wants to end this facade. Can no one see I'm not here? I'm not breathing. I'm not living. I'm a puppet and Danny holds my strings.

Danny is a possessive control freak. He is as insecure as he is violent. His true self lurks just under the surface ready to bubble over. Like a volcano. Think magma.....scorching everything in its path.

In some twisted, fucked up way, he really does love me. He feels like he needs me to live.

Sammy is the boy whom River loved. She and Sammy were waiting for her 16th birthday, until she was old enough for them to date. They had been in love for years without acting on it. When the thing that happened, happened, Sammy is left out. Left out of River's life and left out of the future he thought he was going to have.

When Sammy comes back to town, he and River circle each other. They still have feelings for each other, but Danny is seriously CRAY CRAY. Like kill somebody. They can't risk it. It's too dangerous. But how can they resist the feelings that have been building for year. Years people!

Can you want something so ruined and destroyed? Can you put me back together and make me whole again?

This is not a happily ever after. There are some deep dark secrets. Some in the past and some in present. There are some seriously fucked up parents. Like they need parenting classes or at least a slap to the head. With a frying pan. There is also dancing, drinking, kissing, some of it scary kissing, working on cars, eating cereal, private investigators, sneaking into pools, and hickies. Really big hickies.

This is a well written, crazy ass read. The characters are so flawed and you can't help but love them. Or be scared to death of them. Some characters you aren't sure what you are supposed to feel.

And the end? Holy Crap Balls. Just when you think you are going to get a nice, sweet, let you sleep at night Epilogue. BAM. No Sleeping For You. Totally Cray Cray. Bring on the next one!!!

This was straight up a hot mess. I was hooked by the prologue and the beginning of the book wasn't bad. But as the book progressed it was whacked! I described my feelings to J'Anne as: weirdly interesting white trash mindfuck.
After finishing (barely) I stick to the weird white trash mindfuck.
There's so much weirdness to the story your like WTF! Then it becomes too much. The saving grace if this book? The writing! It's good writing by the author. I think this book would have been good had it not gone off the deep end so many times. Overkill. I stopped taking it seriously.
I could see where this could have been a great book. By the end I felt like maybe two books were intertwined into one.
Why did I not go into any book details it give examples? There's so many things and people that I'm afraid to create a spoiler!
I will say that I think the story of river and Sammy could have been better. I craved for it. Instead it was all over the place and at times unbelievable. Danny was always a psychopath to me. Blaydons story was kinda wasted, I think it could've been different. ALL OF THE PARENTS IN THIS BOOK WERE FUCKED. UP. Which left these people even more fucked.
The one person I liked from beginning to end? Jasper.

I only got interested in this book because of—strangely enough—the disappointing reviews by some readers, and I’m inclined to believe that they have more reason to feel broken and angsty than the book characters themselves. I actually feel broken, too: I've spent two days on a far-fetched plot with exasperating one-dimensional characters, blurry plot twists, lots of grammatical errors, a cliffhanger ending, and I don’t think I can still go on with book 2. :-(

Big fat chubs, and review violence....

So I totally tripped over this book by complete accident. I was intrigued by the insane amount of mixed reviews. Could it really be that good? Could it really be that bad? I just had to know.

Verdict???

It was BOTH!

It was really that good and that bad.

I absolutely refuse to say, "I really wanted to love this book." What does that even mean? I always really want to love a book. I've never gone into a book hoping and praying that it sucks a big fat chub. God, I hope this story really blows. Hell, I might have even used that tired cliche before in past reviews, but now I'm older...wiser. Saying that I really want to love a book (when obviously I don't) makes me feel like I'm punching the author right in the face with my words. Then, I'd have to punch myself in the face (with my fist) for being stupid. Reviews really are a violent hobby.

However, I have to admit that I absolutely loved the premise! If you were to summarize the plot for me, perhaps hire Cliff to write some notes, I'd think this was an amazing book. Even if I was going to look at each scene individually, I'd be impressed, intrigued, and aching for more, but the pieces didn't fit. The execution was...was...damn you thesaurus. It was bad.

There was no cohesion or development that brought everything together as one story. The scenes, though I loved many of them, did not feel like they belonged in the same book. There were editing issues and certain parts that bled right into the next causing confusion.

The first time Sammy and River get together. He wants to put his what? Where? Then throw in a random threesome. Okay, more of a twosome, with an extra mouth, and now we've got awkward.

I did LOVE me some Jasper, and despite almost EVERYONE else, I absolutely loved the ending. That. Was. Awesome. Though it isn't a horror story (disturbing, but not horror) it reminds me of a kick ass open ended horror ending. A total mind f**k. I loved it.

Unfortunately, this book was just too poorly done to rate higher than two stars, but I am in no way sorry I read it. I'll just try to remember what could have been, and yes...I may even pick up Jasper's story.

READ ON!

unlike so many people on Goodreads surprisingly i didnt hate it and realy want to read book two ,i guess i should agree that the editing isnt the best but it never realy bothers me when i read books especially since im not one to judge with my auwful grammar in both Russian and English language, this book did however have many of the ussual annoying Na Cleaches and my least favorit ever Slut Shaming and it did read like a messed up version of The Boy Who sneaks in my bedroom window at times ,the borderline sharing didnt bother me though but i didnt find any of the sex scienes hot so combining all the poinets for me it is a 3 star read , oh and i wanted to ad that i dont like how most books handle sirius issues such as suicied and use it as a plot poinet for drama same with rape and child abuse this book is one of the werst offenders using murder, suicied , child abuse and depression just for drama sake and not realy dealing with this issues, revision time, i read a lot of books since than and i dont think this is three stars to me now mostly cause apart from not liking it that much i basicaly forgot abought it and i remember my three star books, her Empathy siries and Deception siries sounds more my speed

I had the wonderful opportunity to be a beta reader for this book and all I can say is I LOVED IT!!! It is a story full of passion, hate, drugs and abuse.. if you can't handle a dark read this will knock your socks off. the ending is amazing.. well the whole story was amazing. Ker did an awesome job and being her first story I wish her nothing but success. And as part of the Dirty Hoe's Book Blog I can say I am extremely proud of her!!

:: Intense… My New Favorite… 5 Stars of Perfection ::

Well, it looks like I found my NEW, FAVORITE author: Ker Dukey. This book literally had me glued to the pages. I had a VERY hard time putting it down. It was intense, dramatic, edgy, and sizzling hot all at the same time. I am very surprised to see quite a few negative reviews for this book. I can’t even think of anything that is wrong with it. EEEKKKKKKKKK and that ENDING! Ohh, myyyy, gossshhhhhh. It literally sent chills down my spine. I wasn’t expecting that at ALL. Dukey, you are a GENIOUS!

The main characters in this story come off as real individuals not some made up characters that have no meaning behind them. Let’s face it, there are characters out there that hold little interest for readers. River for instance is a young woman who has lived with tragedy all of her life. It seems to have followed her no matter where she went because of secrets that were hidden in her past. Sammy is the man that every girl wants. He is kind, unselfish, and handsome (if we are to believe what all the girls in the book think of him; sighhhhhhh ;) and he is a hero for River who finally faces her demons. Danny is the villain- the monster- that horrible character that readers hope will fall and karma will come back to bite him in the ass. Jasper is the best friend, the one we want to see have a happily ever after. The one we want for ourselves. Each one of these characters make the book was it is, and Ker Dukey does a PERFECT job with them. I just really loved each part of this book. It is now one of my favorites.

Readers, check this one out. Some will describe it as a dark romance and I have to agree. The material is very dark. But, there is also erotica incorporated and of course a lot of romance. Readers will swoon for Sammy and Jasper. I know I did!

Overall Rating:5 Stars. If I could give it 6 stars I would!

Erotica Rating: Mmmmmmm 5 Stars- YUM!

Would I recommend: Yes, YES, YYEEESSS!

Would I read it again: Yes, its a keeper!

Ms. Dukey has redeemed herself. The last two books that I read; Drawn to You and Lines Drawn, I didn't enjoy as much as most of her stories. The Broken was an excellent story. There are some dark times, twisted times and definitely sad times within this story. Yet it is intriguing and plot twists that I didn't see coming. On to the next!!

Well I couldn't get into this on. The main characters was just all over the place for me. Instead of enjoying it I found I was cringing at parts. I wanted to slap River more then felt sorry for her. I just couldn't really get over the fact that she was so weak and wanted everyone to do everything for her. She could have done so much more herself.

2.5 stars!! Don't beat me, but this just didn't do it for me, it was too much, had no connection to the characters, I struggled through to the end. The ending was a bit WOW but it was a struggle to get through :-(
