This review is of “First Response” book 1 in Allie K. Adams’ “TREX” series.
The Story: The book begins with the hero of the book, Special Agent Spencer Allen, celebrating his appointment as a TREX team leader. His first assignment; find Tanya Sullivan, the missing daughter of another TREX agent. While Spencer is trying to fulfill that mission, he also meets up with the heroine of the book, Kathryn Louise “Kat” Davis. Right after they meet in a bar-after Spencer’s disastrous blind date-Spencer and Kat go to his home and have sex.
After really good sex, Spencer is called in to take care of his assignment of rescuing Tanya Sullivan, which he and his team successfully do. The novella ends with Spencer and Kat connecting again and continues in book 2, “Rescue Me.”
Sex: One scene, and it’s pretty darn good.
Violence: Spencer’s team has to extricate he and Tanya from the sex club she is being held in; Spencer is shot by one of his team members to make the “kidnapping” look legitimate.
Bottom Line: Not bad for a novella; the real meat on the bone came in “Rescue Me.” The reason I gave the book 2 stars is not that it's bad, but because it's very short and not a great deal happens to warrant a higher grade.
