What starts as an erotic interrogation when Collin Stark, Chief Executive Bad Ass of a private military company, discovers his new junior secretary omitted the last two years of undergrad and her master's degree from her resume turns into a period of intense discovery. For the fiercely dominant Collin, the plus-size beauty is the perfect submissive who has never acknowledged her true nature. For Mia James, she's fighting to keep her job and restore her sense of dignity after submitting to one mind-blowing evening in Collin's office.
But running a business that can topple governments means life can't be all bedroom games. Men like Collin are targets and so are the women around them. Sometimes, targets have to bleed -- sometimes they have to die.
Very seldom do they find enduring love.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Christa Wick has been hybrid publishing since 2012 (yep, she's one of the O.G. indie authors). She's written 50+ romances starring curvalicious heroines and alphalicious heroes whose stories span the spectrum of: steamy & sweet, steamy & emotional, steamy & suspenseful, steamy & paranormal, steamy & dark, and...well, you get the idea. Her darker, dirtier books are under C.M. Wick, and she also writes general fiction sci-fi thrillers and suspense novels under other pen names.
I got to chapter 3 before I finally gave up on this trash disguised as some kind of erotic novel. It seems like the author got a glimpse of the good life 50 Shades of Grey is having, and decided to join the club. I really wish authors would do their research when it comes to the Dom/Sub lifestyle. It isn't just about dominating someone in bed or in their life. It certainly isn't using sexual manipulation to get a woman to do your bidding so she can keep her job. There is nothing, absolutely NOTHING sexy about a man controlling a woman and using questionable consent as a means to get away with blatant sexual assault.
Well the sex was hot throughout but then we spend 1/3 of the book with them apart and it worked but the ending...2 pages to wrap a HEA was NOT ok for me. I would have liked more on the after effects of their issues before we jump to happiness, unicorns and rainbows.
Christa Wick has a dirty little naughty mind and I like it. Collin takes Mia on a journey that reveals her needs and wants. While he thinks he's driving the boat she is lighthouse that leads him to calm waters in the midst of their storm.
I read the first two chapters of this book as part of An Alpha's need. It was enough to get me interested in it. It was okay, not great, not awful.
The book alternates between Mia and Colin's points of view. The first chapter is about one scene all from her pov, then we have the same identical thing from his pov. I didn't get it, I was thinking I've just read all this?? I'm reading the same thing all over again. It did it to a lesser extent throughout the book that I started skip reading a bit which is never a good sign.
The start of their 'relationship' also bothered me a bit, it seemed to come across more as sexual harassment than anything else. Yes she is attracted to him, but it's like sleep with me or lose your job. Mmm......just didn't set well with me.
I think that the story could have been thought through a bit more and made it a bit more of a solid story. Yes it was entertaining for the evening I read it but probably wouldn't recommend it for your reading list. Also this was three books melded into one....really?? It only had 18 chapters, did it really need to split into three?
This is a great story, the chemistry between the hero and heroine is sexually intense, but also became very warm and affectionate. They are both smart, but the hero is ex-military and not very trusting. The heroine is pretty, but not confident at first. They both develop into strong people and the interactions between them are all wonderful all along the way. The way the sexual scenes were written made it hard to put down. There was always something new and fresh. They were both faithful to the relationship, which is important for me in a romance. There is some action, and danger, and alpha male protectiveness, and female don't-you-dare-hide-stuff-from-me in this book. I read all of these stories separately, starting with the first one that was in a boxed set.
I won't buy Ms Wick's book again, they are clearly not to my taste. I made the purchase halfway through the free chapter one when the boss man was giving his secretary hot sexy times in his office. Unfortunately this devolved into physical needs only with no emotional care, repetitive lack of communication, and an emotional black hole in the hero coupled with crippling self negativity in the female. I kept reading because I thought things must improve but the ridiculous angst was only compounded by hiding a miscarriage and sending her away at the same time, compounding her feelings of failure, to the point where I wanted to stab them both. Urk, urk, urk.

Eh! Thank goodness I didn't pay full price for this. What started out as a decent story devolved into an insane, never fully developed "plot". A lead male character that never explained nor expressed his feelings until the bitter end. A clueless female. And so many grammar and spelling problems that it made it hard to read the story.
This was a quick read with likable characters. They start out very quickly with their involvement, but again this is a story. They each have their own insecurities to deal with and that didn't help them. All worked out in the end. Am curious about the secondary characters, would like a book about them.
HEA seemed rushed/forced. Not a lot of explanation of the male protagonist's motivation, especially in terms of not telling the heroine how he felt. Good overall and I'm not disappointed that I spent money on the book.
Spoilerish..... I'm adding an extra star for the insane sexual tension in the first couple chapters! Wowza!! and the fact that they were both faithful during the separation!
The rest of the book was so so.....I think the back and forth from Collin frustrated me to no ends! (Thank God we get at least a little of his view cause if not I think I would've bailed) Yeah I get that he worried about her and thought that was best but still I expect more from my alpha's....and the fact that for almost 80% of the book he was still willing to let her go and wanted her to find another lover....ugh...at one point I was actually rooting for John to win her heart.
Anyone baffled by the scene at the hospital by Kane and Kessa??? Just started the next book and there is no mention of her so far......
