About the author
Stus Rollins
1 book13 followersStus Rollins was born in Yorkshire, England, where he spent his childhood with his older brother and younger sister. In his late teens he moved to London, where he built a life for himself as a session guitar player working with artists such as Generation X, Driving South, Seal, Hollywood Beyond and Larry Carlton (among others).
He also worked in stage management and later on in event management and production for clients such as Terence Trent Darby, Curiosity Killed the Cat, Trouble Funk, Stereo MCs, Earth Wind & Fire, Madonna, George Michael, BB King, Nina Simone and many more. Music has always been his passion and constant companion. Rollins refined his guitar playing technique arduously by emulating those who influenced him the most, players such as Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Miles Davies, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jo Satriani, Richie Kotzen, Scott Henderson and many more. He studied Jazz and music theory at Lambeth College and advanced modern electric guitar at the Guitar Institute in Shepard’s Bush.
Expanding life
He continued his career in event management and production as a company director also specializing in
architectural drapery within the entertainment industry. His skills took him as far away as Brunei and Singapore, working regularly for clients in the South of France (Cannes), Spain, Denmark, Israel and of course Great Britain. However, the development of the sensory deprivation tank by John C. Lilly and his book The Centre of the Cyclone had had a huge impact on Rollins, prompting him to become England´s first floatation tank pioneer. He built a commercial business with 2 floatation tanks in Brixton (London) and ran it for ten years, where he focused on exploring the expansion of the human consciousness. During those years, Rollins practiced self-inquiry meditation and continued to research Lilly’s work on Programming and Metaprogramming in the Human Bio computer as well as the works of other visionaries such as Timothy Leary and Terence McKenna. His research and life changing personal experiences in his floatation tanks can be seen as one of the corner stones for the advancement of his life and work.
Current years
In recent years Stus Rollins moved to the Wiltshire countryside in England which helped to provide him with a more suitable environment in which to concentrate on his music and of course his writing. However, health issues and the English weather ultimately drove him away to the Iberian Peninsula, where he continues to work, write and play. Having had a vibrant and turbulent life to start off with Stus Rollins has now settled down into a healthy routine in Portugal with his partner Patricia, where he practices yoga, enjoys movies, a good read and a diet based on raw food as well as the principles of food combining. Rollins has produced and published two solo albums of guitar music: Music for Adults (2011) and Amygdala (2013) through Alien Resurrection Records. He is also a guitar instructor.
Influences
Rollins’ early reading influences came from writers such as the French Existentialists Albert Camus and John Paul-Sartre, Immanuel Kant as well as the teachings of George Gurdjieff, who promoted the idea that it is possible to transcend to a higher state of consciousness and achieve full human potential. In terms of writing and style Lautréamont, Emile Zola as well as Knut Hamsun all had a deep influence on him. His strongest influences however came from modern thinkers such as John C. Lilly (The Centre of the Cyclone), Robert M. Pirsig (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance), Joseph Chilton Pearce (The Biology of Transcendence)and Ervin László (Science and the Akashic Field: An integral Theory of Everything). Concerning Science Fiction, his favorite authors are Philip K. Dick, Iain M. Banks.

"Zon: the brilliant début novel by Stus Rollins is an unsettling and challenging read. It is the subversive and iconoclastic tale of an inter-galactic garbage collector who, while out on his rounds discovers the nascent Earth and unwittingly gets involved in its history and development, with profound and hilarious consequences. It travels from our early days of civilization, through recent times, far into the future, where a battle is raging for the soul of mankind between the malevolent forces of Kaplinsky, and his nemesis Nikamedes. Zon it seems, is the unwitting catalyst for everything, and maybe, in the end, its savior.
Featuring a rich tapestry of colourful characters and mind bending situations, the reader is kept on their toes continually. Part adventure story, part treatise, it seeks to debunk the myth of Christianity and hold up a light for the truth, by exploring how we became what we became, and how we might, in the future, find our own spectacular way out of our conundrum, and find answers to what ails us.
At once comic and thought provoking, futuristic yet recognisably contemporary, it has shades of both Arthur C Clarke and G I Gurdjieff. It's going to be quite a trip, so strap yourselves in and hold on tight.

i received this book in exchange for an honest review on amazon. here is what i think.
the concept seemed to be very unique. it kept me on the hook. i was more interested in knowing how the author carries it forward. i loved the writing too. the lead character was well developed. i wish the book was proofread before it was let out for reviewing. over all a nice read. i would love to read more books by the author.

Want to read
October 31, 2020I won a print copy of this book in April 2018 and have never received it. I have tried messaging the author (since he did the giveaway) but got no response. Sad, I was looking forward to reading the book.
