When a network executive offers a reality show, she seizes the opportunity to show the world she’s off the single’s market. Melody leaves her quaint hometown in New York for a sunny island in the Pacific where twenty gorgeous bachelors will vie for her heart and where she can stage a phony engagement. What she never expects, though, is to fall in love with a vampire.

As it says in the synopsis, Date With A Vampire is about a quiet woman named Melody that has not met her perfect man. She has dreams of such a man but once her dates realize her quiet nature, they usually get bored. Until, that is, she wins the lottery. Then she has countless men pursuing her but not for her but for her money. She then gets the offer to star on a reality dating program much like The Bachelorette program that airs here. Just for the record, I like that show!
Enter Guystof, Guy for short. Guy is a vampire but you could think of him as a "good" vampire. He sees being what he is as a curse. Guy is a Count in his home country but his castle is crumbling around him. His Father has pledged him the deed to the castle but he must marry a rich woman to help to restore the castle to its previous splendor. As a last resort, he becomes a bachelor trying to win the heart of Melody. Except Guy has an evil brother, Theo, who also wants control of the castle. So he will do all he can to thwart the romance between Guy and Melody.
Melody entered the contest not to necessarily become engaged but to "fake" an engagement so men would stop hounding her. Guy entered the contest to take a wife that had money. What neither of them anticipated was finding love. But can Melody accept what Guy is and can they outsmart evil Theo's efforts to steal Melody away from Guy?
Ok, my opinions on this book at first were that I thought it sounded like such a cute premise. I love a good vampire romance. And it was sort of sweet, but I didn't really enjoy it as much as I had hoped. First, Melody's reactions were strange, especially when she first found out what Guy was. And just the book as a whole, I just didn't really connect with the characters. I was never really drawn in like I wanted to be. There are some sexy scenes that take this book out of the YA category but as a whole, the story felt kind of juvenile. Thus, the three star rating. It does pretty much wrap things up so it can be read as a stand alone.
So, my opinion is that this was just OK for me. I do want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book for a fair review.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Mrs. English is a very talented author. She is also very nice. I won this book on Goodreads ( Link here https://www.goodreads.com/) in a book giveaway. When I got it, not only had she signed the book, but she signed a postcard and a very nice letter to me. I was surprised, I had forgotten that it had said in the details about the giveaway, that the book would be signed. I was very surprised to see that she cares that much about her fans and her books to sign all of that for me. I started the book wondering how it was going to turn out. It is a very interesting idea for a book. A woman, Melody Johnson, wins the lottery and decides to go on a reality TV-show to get away from all of the men now chasing her for her new money. She doesn't plan on truly falling in love with the bachelors on the show, but fait has other ideas. Guystof LeBreque is a four-hundred year old Romanian vampire. He is caught in a dilemma, marry a rich woman and turn her into a vampire or let the castle go to his evil brother. So Guystof goes on the reality TV-show to try to win Melodys' heart and has no plans of falling for her, but fait has other ideas. Okay, so I didn't do the best job describing it, but it really is a great book. It is very well described. It has just the right amount of description without being too much. I really liked how Mrs. English described the reality TV scenes, you felt like you were really there living it. And from what I know about reality shows, all of the details in this book are correct. There is so sexual scenes in this book, but only towards the end does anything happen. This doesn't go into great graphic detail, but still there are parts that people who don't like sexual scenes won't like. SO CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED! Don't complain if you don't like that kind of thing and then you read this. The two main characters are so well developed. They have so much, a dumb word, but character. I really like Guystof , who is a very charming man, I mean vampire. Though he comes off as force full and perhaps a bit conceited. When you get to know him better though, you will see he's not. He is a great character. One person complained that everything happened so fast in this book, but I liked it. I don't like it when in a book the author goes on and on with describing the background and it takes forever for anything to happen. That is just boring, but in this book you are on the edge of your seat wanting to see what is going to happen next. I didn't guess the end of this book, I had no clue as to what was going to happen. I enjoyed every moment of this book. This book can be read alone, but it is apparently part of a series. This is the only one out, so far, in the Tempted series. I don't know when the next one will be out. I can not wait for the next book to come out. I will defiantly buy it. I recommend reading this book. At least give it a chance. If you don't like it, then I guess you don't, but I bet you are going to love it.
The premise for this was great....a girl wins the lottery and volunteers to be on a Bachelorette type show to stop the gold-digging men from harassing her, and she really falls in love with one of the guys, who happens to be a vampire.
Guy had to get a rich wife in 60 days or he'd loose the right to be the next heir. He was 400 years old. Why the rush? His nasty brother, Theo, was trying to stop him so he'd get the kingdom. Theo even went so far as to kidnap Melody once she got to the castle in Romania. I felt the whole kidnapping resolution could have been a little more dramatic. It sort of fell flat for me when Theo had been so bent on getting the kingdom for himself, I don't think he'd have just disappeared.
A secret romance trope of mine is the "reality show" romance shenanighan's. I love them. Toss in a vampire as well? All over it. Except this book managed to make me want to throw my tablet out the window. I stopped at the point where Theo (the male lead's "darker" brother) decided to basically mind rape Melody (our heroine) into submitting to him (though thankfully not in SEX just in the game). Melody's response once Guystoff tells her? "It felt like a fog!". nope. Sorry. not gonna happen.
Vampires and Romance, two of my triggers so I was looking forward to reading this novel. Its a stand alone too – though I love books that run in series, I'm getting really tired of reading duos or trilogies that end on cliffhangers, and take six months or more before next part is out. Anyway, began this and....ran into problems. Melody as a lottery winner being overwhelmed by all the publicity and fortune hunters I could understand. Going on TV to get out of it – I sort of saw the logic, but really didn't agree with it. Guy too – he's hundreds of years old, and time means nothing to vampires so why on earth would his father give him just sixty days to find a wife...ah well, maybe if I put my reservations aside I can get into the book. Sadly that didn't prove so. The reality show – I was expecting something along the lines of Jill Myles Wicked Games, a book I loved. That one really developed the reality show format and made it work, here the actual reality show part seemed to get glossed over almost, and we saw little of the “dates” or the other contestants. I liked Guy but he seemed a doormat to his father, and after all that while surely his father would see that Guy was the better heir, rather than his cruel brother. I felt the magic part was a bit too slick and convenient to get the players in the position they needed to be, a sort of short cut rather than an essential part of the plot. Still, as ever this is just my view and lots of people want a simplified, easy to follow plot. This really just felt to me that it was a very simple romance, with a bit of magic and paranormal thrown in – it just didn't work for me. I ended up skimming the book to finish as I just wasn't invested enough in the characters, it just seemed a bit too unreal, and almost juvenile in parts considering Guy and his brother were hundreds of years old. Theo's harem too – I didn't see the point of including them, they didn't seem to add to the story, and just took away time that could have been used for more of the reality show filming. Priced at £2.54 for 224 pages its a reasonable cost. Stars: two and a half, overall not one for me but may be just what you want if you like lighter romances. ARC provided via Netgalley.
[image error] I got an ARC for an honest review and here it is, Whenever I read a book that involves vampires and human I have some expectations set or rather maybe it’s just my way of thinking how book involving vamps and humans should be like. This usually includes some hot hot guy which is almost a necessity because hey how will you be able to get a girl/victim/whatever else you want if you are not that hot? Another requirement is hot sex, wild hot sex to make me believe this is truly supernatural and the last very important is that the story be more exciting. Well did I get all three of my requirements in Raine’s Date with a vampire? Sad to say I did not. Yes, Count Guystoff was hot, I really liked him but there was just a touch of something magical maybe missing. As the main hero I expected so much form him and as a freaking vampire prince who is soon to inherent the kingdom, I needed so much more. However for his main heroine, she was likable enough. A lottery winner worth millions who engages herself in a reality show so as to get rid of all the other guys, splendid idea but I am sure I would have done things differently had I won millions at the moment. However, the story was interesting enough for me to actually reach the last page but I would say that I am just a bit disappointed that there was no that shiver factor that I am looking for and that the story almost felt like a normal story between a guy and a girl rather than a vampire and a human. Get my drift? Hence it is in my opinion that two stars are enough for the book and yes I know I’m a bit negative about this book but after having read so many other paranormal books out there this just did not do it for me, however do not take my word for it, go read it and see for yourself. After all we might have different tastes and you will like it…or maybe not! Anyway, Raine English your style of writing is good and I certainly liked it, I only hope book two will have a touching and more addictive story, Sincerely, A dedicated reader.
The premise of this book held promise: the ridiculous nature of the reality television game, the vampire who hated his nature, a power play and a lottery winner. But the book started quietly with a retiring heroine without real reason for her rather flat personality, and never quite picked up speed.
As a heroine, Melody needed some conflict, some reason for her quietness: it wasn’t really put down to shy, no real envious moments of more outgoing people, and even her reactions to shocking news are flat. Her character as developed just didn’t grab me as I had hoped.
Then we have Gustav or Gus for short. In line for the throne, only if he marries and turns his bride: he doesn’t like his vampire self, yet his self-described conflict with his nature also never reached out and grabbed me.
Moments that could have been exploited for the good: the reality show, the reveal of Gus to Melody and their pairing to fight evil were just quiet and not as tension or laughter filled as I would have wanted. This carried the feel of a sweet historical romance, even with the paranormal and modern day elements added in. While not a bad read and Raine English has a smooth writing style with few distractions, the characters just didn’t breathe for me as I had expected or hoped.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
There's so much happening in this book, and so much of it *could* be really great. The problem is that everything is glossed over - we rush from one event to the next, without pausing for breath or to really delve into the implications of anything.
The reality show component could have been really interesting if the book teased out how hard it would be to forge a real relationship in such a scripted, pressure-cooker environment. The vampire-hero from a more conservative, traditional, even out-dated background launched into a modern, high-tech world to woe a bride could have been an interesting conceit, but it's limited to feeling uncomfortable in jeans. The potential for a love triangle between Melody, Guy and either his brother Theo or the bachelor Theo enlists to his cause could have been really interesting. Instead we get a poor attempt to win Melody's heart, followed by some creepy behaviour.
I really wanted to like this book, but it never really addresses any of the ideas it brings to the table.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in place of an honest review.
Melody Johnson was just your plan everyday girl until she won the lottery. Now every man is wanting her and it doesn't matter the age. She knows that her friends are not liking it either. They come up with a plan to put her on a reality television show and get her to get engaged so that all the other men will finally leave her alone.
Guystof LeBreque is a four hundred year old vampire. He is next in line to rule and he really hates having to survive on blood. His grandfather made a potion to help him look like a human. He is really needing some money because his castle needs major repairs. He goes and gets a place on the reality show.
I had to read this book because it was like vampires. I enjoyed watching Melody and Guy fall in love. Now Guy's brother is a whole different story. It was great trying to figure out what would happen next in the book. I was really hoping that Guy would come up with a way to be human again. I know what happens but I can't tell you because you really need to read this book yourself to find out what happens with these two wonderful people.

Date with a Vampire is my first Raine English book. It's a fun read about a reclusive, cursed vampire that is forced to join a "Bachelorette" style reality show to win the heart of a millionaire hottie...he has a clan and crumbling castle in Romania depending on him.
Melody Johnson is a down to earth girl who's life becomes a circus after she's wins millions in the lottery. Single, rich, and needing to get out of town, Melody signs up to travel to Fiji to be wined and dined by 20 bachelors on a tv show.
Guystof LeBreque is a 400 year old vampire that lives a reclusive life to spare humans his blood lust. He avoids human women most of all. His father gives him 60 days to wed a rich woman and turn her or lose his legacy to his evil brother.
It's a mix of humor with the filming of the show, romance, and dark magic. Nice HEA with a twist at the end.

This book reminds me very much of another book I have read, but with an added twist to make it seem like another book. This therefore had me looking at how similar the two were than reading the story for the first time. This in turn left me feeling quite disappointed.
As a villain I also felt that Theo played the part well until near the end. Considering his supposed magical powers the man gave up FAR too easily In fact I would say that the last 20% of the book on the whole was unremarkable and dull.
The beginning of this story started off well. The idea of someone doing a Bachelorette type show and one of the guys being a vampire was interesting, especially with all the complications and struggles the vampire had to overcome. Soon my opinion of the book changed, as the story seemed to drag more and more to the point where I was wondering what the whole point of the book even was.
The ended was both confusing and annoying. I don't know if there was ever a sequel for this book, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't read it. Not a book I'd recommend.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book - which I have done.
Date With A Vampire is the first installment in the Tempted series by Raine English.
I have been stewing over this review for a few days. Not that I am torn but more like confused. I really wanted to like this book, but the like turned into confusion quickly.
The plot could have been great with the whole reality TV bachelorette thing going on, but unfortunately it missed the mark. The characters will not connecting to each other and therefore I felt no connection to them.
The ending was confusing as to where this series will go with all the vamps but a few healed I can’t imagine a next book.
I enjoyed the author's writing style, and I'm a sucker for a vampire novel... :) Though I've never been a big fan of romantic style novels, this one was ok.
I found that parts of the story I wished were a bit more detailed, but overall, a good read.
Cute, Fun, an easy read. A neat twist on the end. The first vampire themed book I have ever read that spun it that way. Defiantly interested in reading the next one that comes out! Was a fun cute read! Would recommended it for any one looking for any one in the romance novel world, or if your are just looking for a bit of fun!!!
This book was so amazing. I used to refuse to read vampire books until I came across this book. There is never a dull moment throughout the book. It is so unlike any other book. It is truly one of my favorites. I love how it ended!
