Their parents are kidnapped in a home invasion and Christopher and Michael must unite or die in their quest to find them. Adventure turns to mystery when the brothers follow a hunch leading them over the Pacific Coast Mountains, across the ocean, and to a fortified island where they fight for their lives with tragic results.
I started to write for my son, a reluctant reader. I set out to write a series of books that captivated from the first chapter and pushed the reader through with a solid plot, relentless action and adventure, and humour.
Comments received from parents and teachers indicate I've accomplished my goal. I'm very proud of the Boulton Quest Series. It has captivated the hearts of reluctant readers around the world, boys and girls alike, and is entertaining their brothers, sisters, parents, and grandparents.
Camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, and getting into trouble. What a great way to grow up. One of my favourite memories is sitting on the handlebars of my brother's bike, my dog on my lap, as he careened down the steep mountain trails above our home in Kamloops, BC. My brother and I had caves, tree forts, frog filled ponds, and cactus patches to play in, and sling shots for protection. Somehow I survived my childhood and proudly moved on to fatherhood. My children, Christopher, Michael, Thomas, and Katherine, kindly donated their names, characters, and ideas to this series of books. Together, we created a gut-wrenching life and death adventure that has brought sparkles to the eyes of those who have read it.
Not a bad adventure book. The title is actually the perfect summary for what this book is about. It is a simple, fast paced read to enjoy. while not a great book it is still something to kick back, have a cool drink and enjoy on a summer afternoon.
Chris and Michael are brothers, 14 and 12. Their home is raided and there parents kidnapped. The two brothers race against the clock to figure out where they've been taken, outwit the bad guys on their tails and cross the mountainside. Plus they have some life lessons to learn along the way. Lots of mishaps, action, adventure, danger, comedic moments and a hint of romance awaits them! It is short and fast and has a few moments that got me to chuckle even.
Chris is a bit more standard teen boy, sometimes action older and other times younger than his age. Micheal honestly seems to be the older brother half the time even though he is only 12. It doesn't help that he can drive, and is a tech-genius. Regardless though he seems to use his head to strategize a bit more than his older brother. Yet neither of them felt real to me. I just couldn't see to boys of their age acting the way the do through about half the book. Now other times their characters seemed right on target for their ages. So this left me very mixed on what to think of them. One minute they act like 8-10 year olds, the next their age, and then they act like they are 15-17. This was portrayed in how they acted and spoke. So I felt like the characters did not have a good sense of self.
The action and adventuring was fierce! You name it, it happens in this book. Kidnapping, shootouts, explosions, bears, boat chase, avalanche and more!It keeps you very fixed on the book wondering what will happen. It also has you wondering how these kids get through everything. Yet while it is quite exciting there is so much, so fast and with how the boys handle everything I also had a hard time being worried for them after the first 1/3 of the book. Danger just became the norm.
So final thoughts are that this is a fun read, but not a great read. I honestly do not sure what age group to consider this book. The style reminds me of a 10-13 range yet situations within the book say that if that is the case have an adult (parent or teacher) set up book discussions on some of the topics. Older teens and adults can also enjoy but might (like I did) have a harder time connecting and feel the book is too simple at times. So middle grade-YA pending the individual and reading situation. Very geared toward young men especially but that is good. So many books are geared toward females and I know more young men losing interest all the time for lack of something to read that was not ruled by romance.
Awesome Indies Book Awards is pleased to include BROTHERS, BULLIES AND BAD GUYS (Boulton Quest #1) by ND RICHMAN in the library of Awesome Indies' Badge of Approvalrecipients.
Original Awesome Indies' Assessment (4 stars):
Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys throws the reader into what might look like a familiar world at first: running home from school, watching out for the creepy dude across the park who might or might not be staring at you, getting picked on by your brother. However, it quickly becomes apparent that not all is normal, as soon as the bad guys show up in the middle of the night to abduct Chris and Michael’s mother and father, parents who they haven’t seen much as they work in some kind of top secret lab.
By brilliance and a bit of luck, Michael and Chris manage to make it out of the house with just enough information to set them on the trail to where their parents are being held.
There’s quite a lot to like about this book, starting with the unpredictable nature of the adventure plot. It unfolds in a cinematic way that’s interesting, and the misadventures of the brothers are good for a laugh. The second part I really enjoyed was the characters of Chris and Michael. Their bravery and skill should hopefully empower young people to read more books, develop more skills, and be nice to their peers.
The writing, throughout the thriller portions of the book, was very effective. I caught myself thinking of the movie Armageddon, where it seems everything that can possibly go wrong ends up going wrong.
For all that, the boys are still boys, and make mistakes along their path, which is a failing a lot of young adult authors have when portraying young characters. It’s easy to see the end, and see the steps necessary to take in order to get to the end, but children don’t think of the same stuff. They forget things. They fail to plan for all contingencies. That was a part of B, B, and BG which made it more effective.
Perhaps it’s that I’m not much of a mystery reader or writer, but I began to get frustrated part way through the book that there wasn’t any opportunity to find out what the devil was going on. There may or may not have been opportunities for the boys to figure some of these answers out as they went (it didn’t seem there was) but they also didn’t speculate much, they didn’t spin wild theories about what they were going to find when they got there, and given how little they knew about their parents, spinning wild possibilities would have been a good way to slow down the relentless sprint of the plot and give the reader a bit of a breather.
The description was extremely light in a lot of places, making me feel a bit confused as to what was going on, and to whom. This was especially true of the scene with the girl in the corner store (where was Michael while this was going on?)
I was told that this book was to be marketed for ‘reluctant readers’ which made a lot of the author’s choices make sense.
Overall I liked this adventure, and I’m interested to see how the author might develop it into a series.
The best thing about this book was the characters.
The plot was interesting, the writing style was nice, but it was the characters that pushed this book to four stars instead of three. Chris was a nice main character - at first glance it doesn't seem like he doesn't have much of a personality, but I really liked him. His younger brother, Michael, managed to overshadow him as a character, though - he, at first glance, was 'stupid and mean', but later on you realize that Michael is probably the furthest thing from stupid you could ever have.
Thomas and Katherine, the only really notable side characters, were nice enough as well. I liked Katherine - she's a love interest, sure, but a love interest with a personality and an interesting one at that. Thomas was her younger brother, and is namedropped earlier as a kid Michael and his little gang of thugs liked to pick on, but he's a good character, too.
There are a few typos here and there - missing quotation marks, words that don't quite make sense where they are, things like that, and that was really the only thing that pulled you out of the story. It's mostly in the middle - there are a few sprinkled throughout the beginning and near the end, but it's mostly in the middle where they run rampant. It might just be me being nitpicky, but that bothered me.
Overall, though, it was a good book and I really enjoyed it.
Although I gave this book a 5 star rating overall because it is a fun and entertaining read for pre-teens to young teens, there were two things about the book that I did not like.
Unfortunately I fear the audience for which the book was intended may not ever choose the book because of its cover. I actually love the cover design / photo however it is not appropriate nor appealing to middle school students. It should have a photo of a jet boat flying over a waterfall with a helicopter hovering overhead, a grizzly bear lurking nearby, or similar scene reflecting the action and adventure prevalent in the story.
The other downfall to the book was the first chapter. I found it too jam-packed with information. So much so, it was almost confusing to the reader.
However if you can get past the inappropriate cover, and confusing first chapter, you will be in for a treat! You will discover a well-written, action packed story by a debut author who knows his audience extremely well.
I noted that another reviewer said there was too much action, it wasn't realistic, there were fart jokes...you bet there is! And I can also tell you that is exactly what pre-teen kids will love about this story, especially reluctant readers who need their own brand of humor, and a quick story pace, to keep their interest.
Well done N.D. Richman for crafting a story sure to be loved by young readers, as well as those of us who are still young at heart!
Fast paced? Yes. Chucked full of adventure? Oh yeah. And danger abounds. This book grabs from the first page and refuses to let go until the very last one, and never ever risks a pause for boredom.
Two brothers, Chris and Michael, are upstairs as their parents are brutally kidnapped-yep, that means fighting, bullets and blood. They manage to hide out in Michael's secret room for awhile until a humorous need for the bathroom results in a fast-pace escape to a new hide-out. And from there on out, the bad guys are always on the brother's tails.
But this isn't only about two kids trying to save their parents and figure out what's going on, it's about two brothers who desperately need to learn more about each other and life. Michael is a bully to the upmost extreme, and unknown to all, a genius. Chris hates his brother and after all the torment, no one can blame him, but he also feels responsible for his younger sibling. After all, their parents basically left it on his shoulders to raise the kid since they spent all their time at their labs working on who knows what.
Michael takes some hard lessons on life-brutal ones. And Chris learns how to stand up to life.
The story is brutal, and I as a parent, I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone under 12 years of age. But I think the younger YA audience will enjoy this.
I received a free copy of this for an honest review.
Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys is an absorbing and fast moving story of two brothers who find themselves on a dangerous quest that ultimately has them fighting for their lives.
When Chris and Michael's home is invaded by machine gun wielding bad guys, they narrowly escape with their lives, but their parents aren't so lucky. As Chris and Michael try to come up with a plan, they end up uncovering more secrets than truths. Now, they must set aside their differences and work together in order to find their parents before it's too late.
Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys takes readers on an epic journey of self-discovery and the importance of family, friendship, and forgiveness. I enjoy the author's writing style and the story's quick tempo grasped my attention and didn't let go. I also found the ingenuity and resourcefulness the author gives his young characters, during the many gripping scenes, to be appealing making the story all that more exciting. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
This book was absolutely stunning. Fast paced, the characters were very well thought out. My heart started racing at a couple parts! I couldn't put the book down! Amazing. Five star by far! I gave it to my kid and he didn't put it down either, overall I loved it. Recommend to anybody looking for a book that is exciting and fast past, but yet has a plot twist. Love it.
I received my copy in the mail today and could not wait to begin reading it. I am currently on chapter 5 and the book is living up to everything the author said it would. It is full of action and quick paced; just the thing to keep my middle school students engaged and interested.
"Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys" had me hooked from the very beginning. There is a ton of action, the pace never lets up and there is plenty of mystery to keep you guessing page after page. Definitely a book I will be recommending to friends. I received a copy in return for a fair review.
Enjoyable read, well thought out and well written with a younger reader in mind. Plenty to keep a young mind active and encourage them to invest in the characters. Would recommend to parents with teenager who need a good compelling reason to read.

Chris Bolton, age 14, has had the responsibility of watching over his brother Michael, age 12, since he was eight years old. Something he has never succeeded at. Michael is a Bully well known in the neighborhood and at school. He is feared by any child he has come across and even some of the parents. Their parents were scientist and went to work before the awoke each morning and returned home long after they were in bed asleep. This routine had been going on so long Michael couldn't remember what their mother looked like. Then after running from a man following him, Michael comes home and they go to bed. In the early morning hours both are woken by a noise from downstairs. His parents are shouting at a number of strange men who have invaded there home and are threatening their parents when shots ring out and they hear one of the men shouting to get the kids and Micheal and Chris hide in a hidden room. When they finally escape from their house with men with guns on their tail. The adventure begins.... Who are those men? Why do they want them? Are they really going to kill their parents in only a week? Where have they taken them and how do they get them back? Who can they trust?
The rule in my family is no one under the age of 16 reads anything before an adult reads it first. Something that often caused a time strain when there are so many children in my extended famly. Luckily many of the school reading programs copied one another or as the children grew older the younger ones were assigned books already read the previous year already for those that graduated to the next level. This time I did not have that excuse for reading a book geared toward readers ages 14 and under. That is alright as I enjoyed it tremendously. In just the first few chapters there is a stalking, a gunfight, an assault, a kidnapping and a wild and bumpy car chase. Things only get more interesting from there.
I personally think Claire and Geoff, the parents, treated their children appallingly. To see them rarely so rarely a child of twelve has trouble recalling their mother's face seems a bit like neglect. Chris and Mike are like many of today's children unfortunately. Left alone to raise themselves. Both boys are resilient, resourceful and bright, Michael is a true genius. Yet they still just two young boys with fears and sometimes inappropriate remarks and antics. Michael is a bully, always getting into trouble, perhaps to gain his parents attention? Chris is the good son, always trying to do the right thing, take care of his brother and himself, cooking and cleaning, do well in school, anything to keep the peace. Maybe it is his way to get some recognition from his parents.
I was so happy to see them grow and find their own worth in a story that entertains the reader with mystery and adventure. The reader is drawn into the story and can enjoy living vicariously through Chris and Michael find danger and intrigue every step of the way. If you have a young reader who likes thrillers, mysteries or adventures they will love Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys. I am off to finish book two of the series,Siners, Survivors and Saints. I'll let you Know what I think of it next.

Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys by N.D. Richman, the first in the Boulton Quest Series is about two brothers Michael and Chris. Michael 12 and Chris 14years of age go on a quest to find their parents who have been kidnapped and their not completely sure why. In a adventure of matter life or death for both the boys and their parents, they must figure out why the kidnappers ant them so bad. With one week to make it to the "island" the brothers have to overcome obstacles, being chased down by the bad guys and unsure who they can trust. With a lead, or actually a hunch based on bits and pieces they overheard from the kidnappers before escaping the house, they head over the Pacific Coast Mountains. To the island named Fortified Island, where a fight for their lives end with tragic results....
The two brothers are completely opposite of each other, Michael known as a bully as well as a leader of a gang who beat up kids in school is a "closet" Techno geek. Chris has a responsibility of looking over his brother, a more reserved laid back kid.Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Boulton are scientist who rarely see their children with work schedule....but it also may be intentional. With their parents kidnapping, being wanted by some dangerous people and unsure why, also on the run and their face plastered all over the news and yes even a milk carton, the Boulton boys are on a quest of a life time.
Unsure of what their parents are into, if their spies or creating some dangerous military weapon, one thing they are sure of is one, they have to get their parents back and two, who ever these men are, they are very dangerous. Chris and Michael along their journey make new friends with a young girl named Katherine and more of acquaintance with the boy Michael would always beat up, Thomas. Also they come to find out Katherine is Thomas sister. Out of a act of pure kindness both Katherine and Thomas help the Boulton boys to the mountains as well as give them supplies such as food, warm clothes and more.
As the story progresses Chris learns more about his brother than he would on a normal day, learns that Michael is a techno geek and has not been using his full potential in school. Along the way Michaels savvy tech skills helped them in many different ways. Chris acting as the protective and slightly bossy older brother plans the routes, breaks and shifts to help maintain order. As the brothers go through this long and strenuous journey, they grow and mature together in a trying time where there not even confident in the end result or if they even will make it where they have to go alive. As well not completely confident if their parents are still alive or even on the island.
Will the Boulton brothers succeed in their mission to find their parents? Will they make it to the island alive while avoiding the bad guys in the process? Will they succeed in their mission, in a rescue that seems almost impossible as well as all make it off the island alive? A compelling adventure you can sink your teeth into from beginning to end.The book from the start of is filled with action, making you wonder what is going to happen next. N.D. Richman takes you on a action packed adventure from the beginning to end. Its full of wonder and mystery, you may not want to put the book down.
Christopher and Michael are two brothers who just don’t get along. Michael is the younger of the two and he is a terrible bully. He does awful things like puts gopher snakes in the toilet so his brother gets a terrible, painful surprise when Christopher sits down.
Their parents are mostly absent, working all hours at a lab and so it falls on Chris to keep Michael in line which he finds impossible to do. As absent in their lives as their parents are, both boys still love them very much.
One night Christopher and Michael’s parents are kidnapped in a home invasion and the boys narrowly escape being taken because they were awake when the ruckus started and surprisingly Michael had a secret door in their bedroom that even Chris knew nothing about. In the room below was an amazing array of technology and equipment that Chris couldn’t believe that Michael knew how to operate because he could barely get passing grades in school.
Working together, both boys knew that this was the only way they could get their parents back.
I really liked that these two boys who couldn’t get along had to find a way to work together to achieve a goal. I liked the twist that Michael was seen in a new light with these skills that Chris never knew he had.
The pacing and suspense of this novel was perfect. No wonder reluctant readers want to read it! From dangers of the environment to bullets and bombs, anything can happen. There are lots of unexpected twists and turns, even a little romance. The characters were well developed. The reader gets a good sense of both boys and the fears of each of them. I really felt for them when tragedy struck.
The twist at the end was the ultimate surprise for me. I really didn’t see that one coming. I thought that was excellent.
Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys was an excellent read. While geared for middle school and teens, virtually anyone who enjoys action, adventure and suspense books should enjoy this book. I rated it 5 stars out of 5.
Thank you to the author for providing a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.
Wow! That was an edge of my seat thrill ride! This starts as a story of two brothers - one who loves to torture his older brother, and one who hates it. Brother Chris hides all the way home so he doesn't get attacked by brother Michael's 'gang.' Even though they have a feud between them, the two brothers share a room at home. Michael has always played mean tricks on Chris (and other kids in the neighborhood). Chris and Michael are strong sibling rivals, yet when it matters, they pull together and make a great team. For the majority of their lives, Chris has made dinner for Michael and himself. This is because their parents come home after the boys are already in bed and leave before they are awake in the morning. They are the ultimate latch-key kids.
While Chris and Michael are in bed that night they hear what appears to be a ruckus between their parents and some intruders. Michael tells Chris to hide in the closet with him. Chris figures they will be caught for sure, but what he doesn't know is that Michael has a hidden room in the closet. This is the first time we see how really ingenious this snot nosed kid actually is. The intruders want the kids badly and so a chase ensues. Michael and Chris learn to rely on each other's talents and to trust each other.
Brothers, Bullies, and Bad Guys is written for a younger 'adult' crowd, preteen boys, but I think anyone will like the story. This fast acting, full of action, and extremely well written drama kept my attention. I am not a kid, and I really enjoyed the plot. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Brothers, Bullies, and Bad Guys is a book about brothers, Chris and Michael, and their amazing travels. Chris was already lying in bed when his brother Michael finally came in for the night. Michael had been out bullying with his buddies again, as usual.
They went to sleep but were awakened at 3:05 a.m. by a loud noise downstairs. Their parents started shouting. A few seconds later, they heard their parents being kidnapped! The bad guys were now after them.
Chris and Michael hid and bolted away as soon as they could. Now it's a race against the clock to find their parents before they get killed. They don't even know where to start looking, because they don't know why their parents were taken. Can Chris and Michael find their parents before it is too late? Can they stay alive? Find out in this captivating book!
Opinion: I think N.D. Richman wrote an excellent book; it was full of twists and turns. Throughout the book I didn't know what was going to happen, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved the way N.D. Richman worked the themes of family and friendship into the story. I would love to read additional titles from him. The characters were highly-developed, and the plot was well-described. I absolutely loved this book!
One of the best described parts of Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys was this section: “Chris's brain felt like an ice pack, and his muscles and bones ached with cold. If he moved, they would snap in two, like a Popsicle slammed into a counter.”
I can't think of anything that could make this book any better! I would recommend it to students ages 12 and up because there is some death.

Okay... This appears to be a book for YA guys, but girls - trust me - you will enjoy this too! This is a very unusual story about two brothers and several supporting characters. The tale begins with two brothers and their parents but steadily encompasses several more key characters - both good ones and bad ones. It is easy for youth to follow as the action just keeps adding more characters and more action. It is fast-paced and will keep the reader's interest to the very end. The end is powerful and leaves the reader's anxious to "dig into" the next of the series.
The Siblings are as different as night and day yet are closely bonded. Most youth can relate to the rivalry yet love of other siblings. Youth will also relate to the various feelings and adventure of those in the story.
The Title and Cover of the book could not be more perfect! It depicts the main points of the story and is very appealing and eye-catching to adventurous youth. The characters are easily visualized as are the surrounding background scenes. This is especially great for youth 10 - 18 years of age.
There are a few crude words but is mostly clean. (However, I truly wish those words had been left out or replaced in a YA book.)
My review of this book offers a Five Stars rating due to the literary skills of the author.
*This was gifted to me for an honest review, of which I have given.
Brothers, Bullies, and Bad Guys is an all action book! The author was not kidding when he said he wanted to write a book that would appeal to young boy readers. From a bear encounter, to a speed boat chase, to buglers with guns, there is non stop action. I read this book with a very open mind and that is what one needs when reading it as an adult. These two young brothers embark on a very dangerous quest to find their parents. The plot is a bit unbelievable when you are considering that these boys are just kids but it is a great story besides that fact. By the end I was more invested in the book than I thought I would be. I was worried for the boys safety and wanted everything to turn out ok!
Another problem I found was in the first chapter of the book. It is loaded with story information and is a bit confusing. I felt that some readers might put it down because of this fact. However, I found that after the first chapter it was is smooth reading!
I think that this book would appeal to young readers that need an exciting read. There are not many boring dialogue moments or moments of romance so this book would also be great for reluctant boy readers.
Action adventure pretty much sums it up. I haven't read an adventure story in a while and so I don't know if this was typical but it was certainly non-stop, not a page without incident.
There were a few things I thought needed tightening up but on the whole, I could recommend as a complete rollercoaster. There's enough adventure here for three books, all crammed into one, and the brothers get pretty bashed about. I can't say I enjoyed it - hence only 2 stars - but then I'm not a teenage boy. I certainly found it interesting, quite compelling, and although far-fetched, not ridiculously so - the individual events were credible, it was just so many of them, all crowding on each other, that made it a bit overwhelming. For me, but then I'm a staid middle-aged duck. One thing I did nod approvingly over was the consequences to some of the insane stuff the boys did, they certainly didn't escape unscathed and no kid attempting any of the stuff as a result of the book would be left in any doubt of the risk.
And that's probably the most staid middle-aged comment I ever made. Bite me.
Goodreads Synopsis: One troubled, the other trouble One regrets, the other hates One builds, the other destroys
My Review: Not a bad book, overall. I liked it. I didn't totally love it, wasn't sold completely on it, but I liked it. It was exciting, interesting and kept my attention for most of the book, anyways. The characters weren't my favourite, didn't really get to learn a lot about them, and I didn't get to connect with them very well, but that's okay. There was tons of action and excitement going on in this book, so if you like that, definitely check it out! I got this book from a goodreads giveaway and just got around to reading it, sorry it took so long to read and review! Thanks for reading.
I received a free ecopy of this book for an honest review.
Brothers, Bullies, and Bad Guys is a good young adult story with a lot of action. It’s about Chris and Michael, brothers who have practically raised themselves because their parents are so busy at their lab. Chris is 14 and feels responsible for Michael and also feels guilty that he can’t keep Michael under control. Michael is 12 and a hellion. He’s even done things that have caused Chris to have to be hospitalized. He’s a bully at school and is an all around bad kid, a hooligan.
After the boys’ parents disappear, they have to work together. Chris learns that there is much more to Michael than meets the eye. As the story progresses, Michael does some growing up and realizes what a jerk he’s been.
Brothers, Bullies, and Bad Guys is a quick, easy read that is action packed. There is also some violence but less than we see on TV every day. It has a little romance and a lot of growing up. This is a great book for young adults.
I was not sure what to expect from this book but I was pleasantly surprised with how thrilling it was even for an adult reader like myself. I found myself engrossed in reading about the two brothers that were so different. They have fights going on between the two of them and they even have to share a room at home. Chris and Michael are great examples of what siblings who are not perfect are like. The rivalry between the two of them is so true to form, but when they need each other they have each other's back. Younger children that are reading this will see the relationship dynamics and be able to learn from them. Even though siblings may have differences they can still pull together when they need each other. After a home intrusion, Chris and Michael have to learn to trust one another to survive. This book is definitely geared towards a younger audience but anyone could enjoy it. Even as an adult, this book drew me in and I truly enjoyed the plot that the author put together. I am really looking forward to reading the next book in this series!
I received a copy of this free for an honest review which I am giving.
If you've got a middle grade/pre-teen/early teenaged boy in your life, he is going to love this book. The action in the book is fast-paced and very exciting.
Chris and Michael are sent on the adventure of their lives when their parents are abducted from their home. The boys know that they will be killed if they stay in the home. It turns out one of them has been expecting this for some time and he has planned for their escape.
The plot is fast paced and the boys' adventurous journey will keep boys reading! As an adult, some of the humor and scenes were a little crude for me, but I know boys seem to like that sort of thing.
I enjoyed the characters and seeing how they changed throughout their journey. The adventure was exciting and I'm looking forward to seeing what else happens to the boys.
Brothers, Bullies and Bad Guys by N.D. Richman was an interesting young adult action book. I liked the brothers and the plot of the story. I enjoyed the technical aspects and how the brothers had to work together to outsmart the bad guys. I felt the story would have been more enjoyable if it wasn't as descriptive. I felt as if there were a lot of unnecessary descriptions of things. Like, every single action or item or thought had to be accompanied by descriptive words; it didn't seem as if anything was just stated plainly. While this can be good at times throughout the story, when it occurs very frequently, it makes the story drag a bit for me. Overall it was an okay read for me. It's one that I will let my nearly twelve year old read, as I think she would enjoy the action.
I received a complimentary copy for review purposes.
My son read this book and enjoyed many aspects of it. He likes how they figure out how to outwit and outsmart the bad guys. He says while some situations are a little too easy to win they are still very fun to read. As I read along with him I noticed the writing is well done with no glaring mistakes or inconsistencies. As an adult I felt it was filled with too many too good to be true situations but my son reminds me that there are children all over the world who can do some things better than any adult. Overall we agree this is a fun easy to read book full of action well worth the read. I'd recommend this for libraries, especially schools. We received the chance to read this book through mother daughter book reviews in exchange for our honest unpaid opinion.
I'm in love with this author! The books are so easy to read which makes it very enjoyable to me. The book isn't that long so it's doesn't drag on! This book is one of those that you can't seem to put down. Everything about it is just amazing!
I really LOVE the characters. I can relate to a few things about each character in the book which made it even more enjoyable to read. They were very enjoyable to get to know! Christopher and Michael need to band together and work as a TEAM to find their kidnapped parents! The ending was not how I expected to end which made the book even better to read!
This was one of the better books I've read in a while. I actually told a few people about it already as I liked it that much!
First, I would like to thank the author N.D. Richman for giving me this book for an honest review. This book was very well written, especially as it's main audience target is reluctant readers. The story is action packed and has everything that reluctant readers would love to read about. The characters are well written. I would have liked to have seen the boys try to guess at what was going on, I think it would have added to the story and also, what child is not going to use their imagination to figure out what is going on. I think it could have added some very funny add-ins to the story. Over all the book is a great read and I am going to have my grandsons read it. I look forward to reading the next book.
Brothers Chris (14) and Michael (12) are raising themselves. With scientist parents who spend all of their time working, the boys have lived an arduous life. Awakened one night during a home invasion, the boys hear their parents downstairs, a gunshot, and unknown voices saying to get the kids. They flee to a hidden room and make their escape, but not without the gunmen close on their trail. With so many questions and no answers, the boys must work together to find their parents, and figure out what is going on. "With your gang of thugs after him? I'd have left them too. He'll pay you back one day, Michael. You'll regret this." Read the full review at http://www.musingwithcrayolakym.com/b...
This is a really cool action book for middle graders 12 and up. It is about two brothers that don't get along that must come to terms with each other to stay alive and save their parents. Chris is 14 and has the people skills. Michael is 12 and is a techno geek and bully. But they quickly learn to work together, trust each other and use each others skills to stay alive and save their parents. But they go through some pretty exciting, keep you up late, reading by flashlight under the blanket adventures to do this. It is a very exciting, really cool book, and you will have to read it to see how Michael learns his lesson about bullying, it's a good one he is not soon to forget!
