Spoiler to follow:
Nick was so great until the end. Nick went through all that with Leah just to throw it all away on some random drunken fuck with a skank that he knows Leah hates. Loser. My heart broke for her when she found them. I wouldn't forgive him.

Shattered by Heather D’Agostino is the first book in a New Adult series. It will appeal most to late teen and young twenty-something readers. If half-stars were available, I'd rate this a 2.5-star read.

Leah gives up her HS sweetheart to pursue Olympic gold, but before she has a chance to compete her career is ended by a car accident. When she returns to the small town she desperately wanted to shed like old snake skin, she runs into Nick, her HS sweetheart. After five years of unhappily pursuing love in all the wrong places, they agree to give their relationship a second chance.

Once the town’s golden girl, Leah has a hard time dealing with all he obstacles life is throwing at her. Leah comes off as very needy and very incapable of dealing with the any curve balls being thrown her way. Nick supports Leah through her mother’s death, but when an opportunity for him to pursue his dream presents itself, he jumps on the first bus out of town. While the reader knows that Nick previously gave up an opportunity to leave town, Leah does not. Nick who is little older than Leah and was deeply hurt by Leah leaving without him or inviting him to leave with her, pulls to the stunt when he hits the road.

These two love-sick kids will have you rooting for them and wanting to shake some sense into them. It is a classic tale of lack of communication leading to relationship misunderstanding. Nick and Leah are fairly well-developed characters, however, the secondary characters are not. The secondary characters (family and friends) are mainly used for the main characters to communicate their thoughts and feelings (they don’t share much with each other to which the reader is privy).

The plot is fast paced. The dual POV chapters are interesting. It is rare that the reader is gets insight to both sides of the story. There is a cliff-hanger ending as a segue to the next book in the series. It is a quick, easy read for an afternoon at the beach.

I loved this book. I discovered this author and this series, because she is signing at an author event I will be attending later in the year. I am so glad that I got to read it . I really enjoyed and connected with the two main characters. The story was very well written and you are hooked until the very end, I cold not put this book down! Speaking of the ending, it about Shattered me!!! There is a cliffhanger, but it is so worth it, because Nick and Leah's story is one you need to read.

Nick and Leah dated in high school and were in love, but a chance of a lifetime tears them apart. However an accident and a dream being shattered brings both of them back together again. Nick and Leah are great together. There is so much emotional and sexual chemistry between the two. But there are a lot of things, decisions, and people who are trying to tear them apart. Can their relationship survive?

This was a quick read that sucks you in and doesn't let you go. I cant wait to continue there story and see how things work out. I would highly recommend this book.

We start out this book meeting Leah. Where is she from? Why did she leave? What has brought her back? Who is Avery? How does Leah know her? Who are Nick and Cam? Oh, I do not like Nick after having just met him. What a jerk!!! Boy, I was crying before I hit Chapter 4. Half way through the book and I needed tissues. I totally related to where Leah was at the moment in her head. I was the same way with my father. Was glad to see Leah agree to some things. My mind by this point is rethinking my thoughts on Nick. I cannot stand Becca. She is a complete witch. I look forward to finishing the series! Watch out for the cliff hanger!

This is a Romance/Tragedy book. Book one in the The Shattered series. It can be read as a stand alone, but it left me needing more. I recommend this for young adults. This is a story about forgiveness, first love and learning to live with choices that you make. I really enjoyed this book, a lot of different emotions with this read. Leah was a normal girl with big dreams and she followed them. I love how she had the courage to do so. Maybe the outcome was unexpected but it was a lesson learned. I was so sad when tragedy hits, what an eye opener when they say you never know what tomorrow brings. And I found myself having a love/hate relationship with Nick, was he trying to better himself or was it really revenge? I can't wait to read what comes next.

This story is about Leah Carmichael your everyday girl next door, whom happens to have some talent. She is given an opportunity of a lifetime and when she decides to follow her dream, you would think she would get some support from her boyfriend Nick, instead he does the complete opposite. She follows and lives her dream for five years. Then her world crashes down on her, and she returns home. She comes home to her biggest supporters her parents, but it is not all good on the home front. And she is not ready to deal with more than is already on her plate but she has no choice. New job, Nick, and a tragic situation are more than Leah can deal with right now, this will either break or completely shatter her?

favorite passages:
"It was like my entire world was falling away piece by piece."
"Right now, I just wanted to get to my new home, climb into bed, and pray that the man who haunted my dreams would stay away for just one night."
"A small smile tugged at the corners of my mouth as I ambled along the walkway making my way to the front door."
"You know just because you left me, it doesn't mean I stopped caring about your family."
"My body rocked back and forth as the sobs rolled out of me."
"He kissed me...like he use to. Then he ran in the other direction as fast as he could."
"You and me...forever."
"Hey man," douche bag number one said, "he was like that when we got here."
"Yeah...one that you already know is going to have a happy ending."
"His kisses were like a drug, and I was slowly becoming addicted again."
"When she came back, she was broken."
"The day we buried her was the hardest day of my life." <3
"I felt like my chest had been split open and someone was squeezing my heart in a tight fist." <3
"My normal kinda sucks, I offered a weak smile."
"Had left me without even a goodbye." <3

We loved loved loved that Author D'Agostino stepped outside of her comfort zone and gave us a smoking new series. Leah and Nick will take you on a wild ride, and just when you think things have settled down they will speed up again. And the best part is it written from both of their POV. I love when I get both sides of the stories and I am able to invest emotionally into both characters.

Leah Carmichael is a runner. No like really she was an upcoming Olympic runner when her dreams were crushed. Nick was her High School boyfriend and he turned down his chance to escape their small town to be with her. Only Leah was not as thoughtful and she left Nick to go and pursue her dreams. 'As I watched her walk away from me for the last time, anger boiled inside. I thought about what I'd given up. I had been asked to come to UNC on a football scholarship I'd been sought after just as much as she had, but I stayed. I let my love for her determine where my future lied.'

Although Leah was not my favorite...I did like that she was strong enough to leave behind her HS Sweetheart and follow her dreams. Even if things didn't turn out the way she hoped, she still was strong enough to leave. Okay so now you wondering why I didn't like Leah...well she was downright selfish. Ugh! She wanted everything to be centered around her...her dreams...her career...her family. Leah Leah Leah (in my Jan Brady voice)! LOL! OMG there was one part were I wanted to slap her damn face. Like really you going ballistic because Nick wants more out of life? Really Leah, really?

My favorite part...when Leah was soaking in the ice tub in the training room and Nick walked in...and he helped her wrap her ankle...and one thing lead to another. 'I began to lower myself back down, but Nick suddenly turned his head and crashed his mouth into mine. As his lips moved across mine, it was as if the last five years had never happened. His tongue snaked out and ran along the seam of my mouth forcing it open. The kiss grew urgent as if he was afraid I'd suddenly disappear. Our tongues battled one another as he reached down and grabbed me behind my thighs, lifting me up, and spinning us so my back was to the wall.' And then he left her little ass hanging...LOVED it. Like that's what she get for running from you.

You will absolutely love Shattered. It is full of love, hope, and forgiveness (Oh it will leave you longing for Part II).

I received this book by the Author for an honest review.

This was my first book by H. D’Agostino and wow am I glad I read it. I was drawn in from the first few pages and had a hard time putting it down. I’m also glad I found out about these books after I had all three books. I don’t think I would have been able to handle it if I had to wait for the next book. Yes, I read all three one right after another. I could not put them down I had to know what happened next and I’m telling you, you will too once you start reading them.

This starts with Leah going back home after being gone for five years and is struggling with possibly seeing her high school sweetheart, Nick, again. You see she left before graduating high school to go train for the Olympics. Yes, she left everyone behind her parents, friends, and most importantly, Nick. Now let me tell you about Nick he gave up a lot to be with Leah. He gave up his dreams of playing ball in collage to stay near her. Awww right I know I felt the same way. Well Leah had a chance to leave the small town and possible be an Olympian and she did it and didn’t even talk to Nick about just up and made the decision to go, breaking his heart in the processes.

Leah was injured and has no hope for an Olympic future she returns home to spend time with her mom who is sick. She is trying not to run into Nick when she gets back, knowing if she does it will be difficult. However fate has other plans and being how this is a small town it is bound to happen. I have to say I was surprised when they decided to give dating a try and didn’t fight the feeling too much. It is what happens when the tables are turned on Leah that starts the crazy ride. All I can say is make sure you have the second book on your e-reader ready to go. Yes, you will want the next book right away I know I did.

Some of my Favorites:

“I’ve missed so many moments with you Leah. I don’t want to miss anymore.
Please…Stay,”

When she came back, she was broken. Now…this was going to shatter her. How was I going to put her back together? How was I going to fix this?

Leah left her small town when the chance of a lifetime was handed to her, to train with the Olympics. Her only regret was having to leave behind the love she shared with Nick for the past three years. Now 5 years later, Leah is now 22 and returning to the life she left behind her after an accident put an abrupt halt to her dreams. She also comes home to her mother battling cancer. To help her father out with the family business and her mother, Leah moves in with her best friend, Avery and takes a job at her old high school as a coach. Now if she could only avoid Nick who has remained in their home town….not so easy when he works at the same place she now does.

Living in a small town, they not only run into one another at work. So does Nick still hold a flame after all these years? There’s a flame alright but it’s lighting the candle for resentment and bitterness. However, the passion still burns bright between these two. Unable to resist one another, Leah and Nick give in to one another and try once again to make things work. We all love second chances right? Well, life doesn’t always play nice and throws sucker punches. Leah is faced with a life tragedy and Nick is offered his own chance of a lifetime. Will history repeat itself? Will the second chance leave them both shattered and broken?

I was hooked early on and could not put the book down. You can easily relate with the characters and the struggles they face in the book. There were lots of twists and turns, things I didn’t see coming until they slapped me in the face. There were some issues with grammar and spelling but not enough to throw me off from the story. The cliffhanger had me a little more than annoyed with Nick, but I was addicted at that point so of course I had to start the next book right away! The book is not a long read so I do recommend making it a marathon and reading all three back to back like I did.

Shattered (Shattered #1) by Heather D’Agostino
I received a complimentary ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Leah seemed to have everything going for her, perfect high school boyfriend, an avid runner and fantastic parents. But when an opportunity to train with the Olympics comes up she takes it, and leaves behind her family and her boyfriend Nick. An injury will change everything and five years later Leah returns to her small hometown. What she will return to however won’t be exactly what it was when she left, will Nick still resent her for leaving or will things heat up quickly?

The answer is yes, things will heat up quickly, after Nick can get over his anger and bitterness at Leah for abandoning him. Leah also returns to her dying Mother, and struggles to deal with another loss in her life. This story was told from a dual POV, at first I was put out by it because it was replaying the same scene over and over just from the other person’s view, and as much as you want to hear the other’s perspective, it was the same scene, and I already knew what happened. However, that quickly passed and the POV changes and we aren’t reading the same chapter again and again. Nick and Leah are steamy, and Nick is anxious to show Leah that he has changed and grown up as well. This book is not short on the drama either, so don’t expect the perfect small town romance, there are some bumps in the road and a hefty cliffhanger.

I would recommend this one for anyone looking for a good beach read, anyone that needs a great escape and a little romance. You will fall in love with the characters and the writing is addicting. The next book in the series is already out so there won’t be a wait! This is the first in the trilogy and I can’t wait to start the next in the series!

Thank you to Heather D’Agostino, for the opportunity to read and review her book!

I just finished Shattered and I really liked it. Leah has been gone for 5 years. She left her home, family, friends and Nick behind when she got offered to train for the Olympics. An injury and a family illness brings her home to the one place that she doesn’t want to be. Of course Nick is still here. Resentment and bitter feelings still play in their relationship but after time they are willing to let things go to see what happens. They both have secrets and they really try to move on with each other. Only now, Nick is now offered the chance of a lifetime. Will he stay to keep their love alive or will he chase his dreams now leaving Leah shattered. You just have to read and see.

I really liked the story, I thought that it flowed really well. I always like stories with second chances so this doesn’t disappoint. It has good secondary characters. Cam, Avery, Logan, her parents. They all give advice when needed and are their for Nick and Leah when they are needed.

Nick is a hottie, of that I have no doubt. Does he make some stupid mistakes? Oh yeah. FACEPALM! I just hope he finally learns from the in the next story to come. I liked Leah. I did think that she was selfish at times. Not about leaving but after coming back, that it was all about her, me this, me that. It got rather annoying but I can say that it picked up and I wasn’t feeling that for her anymore. She got over herself pretty quickly. All in all, their chemistry was hot and sexy. I want more!!

Cannot wait to see what happens. It will be interesting that’s for sure.

I received this complementary copy from the author .

WOW!! and UGH!! The anxiety I felt over this couple was pretty thick and intense. Leah and Nick were childhood sweethearts. Nick gave up alot of option in his life to stay and be with Leah in hopes of them being together forever. Leah on the other hand, ran the first chance she had to train for the US Olympic team. Do you blame her? NO but she didnt think to talk to Nick before making the choices. She presumed her would just follow her...guess what? He didn't.

Fast Forward 5 years and Leah's life is a mess. She isn't an Olympic athlete anymore, her mom is sick and she is back home....afraid of seeing HIM!! Well lemme tell ya when they see each other the chemistry was THICK and sizzling. I was glad Nick and Leah didn't fight the attraction very long but sad that Leah kept pushing the amazing man away when she needed to lean on him during some tragedy....Sigh...have I mentioned Nick IS the perfect ALPHA MALE!!??

So all is going well when Nick gets the chance to move and make something big for THEM but all Leah sees is he is leaving her. I have to admit I loved her best friend Avery calling her out abouthow bad it sucks to be left behind...Karma right? Well Leah is ready to work on it with Nick and she .............................................oh snap you think I am gonna tell??? Heck no!! You gotta read this lettle gem yourself!! Trust me you will be a mess after.

This was a nice easy read, but there were a few things I'm not sure I liked. There were times it would skip a few months and I think I would have liked to have had it fill in the space a little bit more.

Leah has wanted a reason to get out of Pittsford and a chance at running in the Olympics is all it took. She up and left Nick without even asking his opinion. It shattered him. Now Leah is back and he's not sure if he can handle it. He's still in love with her and she's still in love with him. Nick isn't sure how long she's going to stay or if she'll find a reason to run again and get out of Pittsford for good, but he's starting to think it's worth a shot.

Turn about doesn't always seem like fair play though when the tables are turned. This was definitely a roller coaster ride!

The chemistry that Nick and Leah has is great! And her best friend Avery is a HOOT! I ended up finishing this book and diving right into the second one!

Shattered is a great read!! Leah left her small town life in pursuit of running in the Olympics. She left behind her boyfriend at the time, Nick. five years later she returns. Her mother is sick and her dream of running in the Olympics have been destroyed by an injury. Nick is still in town.

Nick is harsh on Leah at first but their chemistry can;t be denied and he softens pretty quickly. I didn't really like Nick at first but as I read on i liked him more. We learn why Nick was so mad at Leah when she left.

The shoe in on the other foot this time, when Nick gets a great offer that out of town. Leah is not happy with Nick's decision. In the end Nick does something that is awful and I'm not sure how he will win Leah back. This is book one in the series so of course there is a cliffhanger.

Shattered by H. D’Agostino was an awesome read that kept me in its grips even after the book was finished. What would you be willing to give up in order to chase your dreams? Leah had to answer that question, and now faces the consequences of her actions. Will Nick be willing to give her a second chance?
I have to say that I give this book 5 stars *****. It has been a long time since I have felt such conflicting emotions about the main character of a book. I love her and I hate her. She will have you feeling sorry for her one minute and then wanting to smack her upside the head the next. Of course the last time is kind of Nick’s fault, but the blame street can run both ways now can’t it.
I would recommend that every one read this book, but only if you like serials.

I loved Nick and Leah, they were high school soul-mates to me. Then life came in and predictably split them up. After five years, these strong and sometimes volatile characters came back together, and then the amusing fireworks commenced. The back and forth chemistry between them was strong enough to feel through the author's words. She did a wonderful job of creating relatable characters that I fell for, including Leah's roommate Avery. I would love to hear more about her story as well! It was a shorter and sweet read, even though it was predictable to me. I am excited for the second book to see where life brings these two!

I really enjoyed this book. I wouldn't allow myself to go to sleep tonight until I finished it as a matter of fact. Shattered is the perfect title for this book because that's exactly what the story does to you. It's a very emotional and roller coaster ride for Leah and Nick, high school sweethearts separated for five years by Leah's need to follow her dreams and once reunited are faced with a similar decision when Nick decides to follow his. I'm looking forward to the next book and then book three- the conclusion to this story, it was a very good and recommended read. ❤️ Kellie

What an up and down relationship! Leah left Nick to try her luck on the Olympic track team. She broke his heart. She comes back to town following an accident that ended her career and finds Nick still single. Can they work it out this time?

I received this ARC for an honest review, and honestly, this is my favorite series of the month. I fell in love with Nick right from the start. How could you not. You could feel his pain and passion with Leah the whole time. She broke his heart into a billion pieces 5 yrs ago when she left without even a care about how he felt. Sure being asked to join the Olympic team was a huge deal, but she didn't think about who or what she was leaving behind. And to never come home in those five years, even to see your parents. But I wasn't surprised that Nick was willing to give her a second chance. She was his lifeline. I love their chemistry together. They are both grown up now, not teenagers any longer. Nick always knew what he wanted and that was Leah Carmichael.

Once again Heather D'Agostino's has given us an emotional & realistic portrayal of Leah & Nick's up and down relationship. No longer teenagers, now they have adult situations to deal with .. but do they deal with them any different or are they stuck in a holding pattern? I can't wait to see where their journey leads in the next book!
