On Fire is the first book of the Fire Trilogy. In On Fire we are introduced to Sharon MacCabe a reporter for The Charleston Times who has just been demoted from the Fire Station Beat with no explanation at all , on her supposedly last assignment she meets the new Fire station’s Captain,Matthew Peyton who she feels like is hiding something and does not trust her as a reporter. A string of suspicious fires start in the Charleston Community and even though Sharon is no longer on that beat she is determined to prove that she is an investigative reporter and she should have not been demoted, she decides to team up with the new captain and solve these suspicious fires.
The story started off a little slow but once it picked up it grabbed me and had me try to figure out who was behind the fires and the reason Sharon was demoted. I really enjoyed this romantic suspense and look forward to the others in the series. I was shocked at the end of the reason for the demotion and the fact Sharon did not share her good news with Matthew, maybe it will be in the next book.
I received an advanced copy of this novel for an honest review.
I received an advance copy of this ebook in return for an honest review. Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed On Fire from beginning to end. Patricia Sargeant is quite adept at writing romantic suspense stories, and this was no exception. I enjoyed the slow-building suspense with the investigation of the suspicious fires by both Sharon McCabe, recently demoted fire department beat newspaper reporter, and Matthew Payton, recently hired lead fire department investigator. They initally clash although attracted to each other, but finally collaborate to solve the case. Not only are the storylines and major and minor characters well-written, but the suspense remains to the very end. I had a couple of questions that I felt weren't adequately answered, but the quality of writing was such that I figured them out and it wasn't a distraction. This is a must read book.
Sharon MacCafe is an investigative journalist and has been looking into a string of city fires, until her boss snatches her beat away and gives it to a senator's nephew. Sharon decides to secretly continue her investigation, but is having a hard time gaining trust from the city's new fire investigator, Matthew Payton, who has trust issues with reporters stemming from a previous incident. Will they eventually trust each other in order to track down an arsonist while romantic sparks fly around them.
This was my first Patricia Sargent book and my first at reading a romantic suspense, but It will definitely not be my last. I loved this book from beginning to end, and truthfully I didn't want it to end. I can't wait to read another book from her.
I received a copy of this book for an honest reivew
On Fire is an African American Romantic Suspense. Matthew Payne is a firefighter from Pittsburgh with a new job in Charleston as a fire station captain. Sharon MacCabe is a reporter demoted from her job as reporter covering the fire beat, however she continued to investigate fires. She was replaced by someone with political ties but no experience.
Matthew didn't trust reporters because of what happened to him in Pittsburgh. Sharon thought Matthew got his job because of connections with the mayor. They had to work through their distrust while trying to discover if the latest fires were due to an arsonist.
Because of their investigation of the fires, they discovered their lives were in danger. The premise was interesting but slow developing as was their romantic relationship. The story was tied up a little too neatly.
On Fire by Patricia Sargeant is a tale of caring, tenacity, determination and commitment. This is a story of a reporter, Sharon MacCabe that is full of caring, tenacity, determination and commitment. She loves her city, where she was born and still resides and feels that the community has the right to know that news. She reports with clarity and integrity. She is assigned to the fire beat and working head strong to become an investigative reporter. To this end she wrote her stories with more info, more facts and did more digging to obtain such.
Matthew Payton is a great fire fighter and investigator. After the reporters in Pittsburgh launched a campaign that deemed him the arsonist that was terrorizing the city and even killed his sister is one of those blazes, he leaves and starts existing elsewhere. He ends up is Charleston, WV as the new Fire Captain and has no use for the press.
Ms. Sargeant spun a tale that kept one engaged on numerous levels....emotional, curiosity, suspense and knowledge. We see these two working together and witness their feelings growing for each other. We get to see how this story unfolds and whether they can last. This is an awesome story that keeps us on edge and wondering.
This is a forthright review of a novel given to me for review purposes.
Good Read, more of an suspense than a romance. Each character had heart. I was drawn into Matthew' s story. I felt sorry that he let his hurt lead him. Sharon's patience was motivating at times and very much warranted. Due to the fear of lost. Loved their overall story. Will encourage readers to read.
This book has it all: intense suspense, loyalty, tested faith and sizzling heat! The story is exhilarating and keeps you glued! It also brings back memories of "old fashioned "standards and morals and why they're so essential! #cillasbookmaniacs
You have a mixer of who did it, romance and a bit of politics. Who did it works its way out until the very end, the romance happens in the middle, the politics comes crashing in just about the beginning. There are fires been set and people businesses are ruin, arson is the case but someone is covering the blasts up.
Sharon works for the local newspaper and is assigned to the beat of the fire department. Just got a promotion and feeling good about her career. On a very cold day Sharon is called into her boss office and there was a young man sitting down. The introductions was made "Sharon meet Lucas, Lucas is Eric the senator nephew, he will be taking the beat and you are assign to".
Matthew finds himself running from Pittsburgh to Charleston from his worst nightmare. His past is so complicated and sad that you really feel sorry for him. All the trust for people went out the door in Pittsburgh. So when Sharon comes to interview him for the newspaper it was a rough ride for Sharon. But what he doesn’t know is that Sharon has done her homework on him. The internet is a dangerous tool" all his info stood out but Sharon didn't judge him. Waiting for him to come forth with the truth, the death of his sister causes him to lock that door and throw away that key. But little did he know someone had sat him up again for a fall.
Sharon was still showing up to the fires to find out the young man wasn't showing up to report the fires. That made her so mad, running into her boss office to tell on him and wondering how was he writing the events without showing up. Come to find out he has an insider to give up all the information.
Before Sharon and Matthew could put their heads together someone attacks Matthew while he was jogging and caught Sharon in the parking lot of her job. Things had gotten so bad, killings of the characters. Matthew got suspended and Sharon quits her job on behalf of Matthew. Not giving a lot away of the juicy plot...just say Sharon and Matthew puts their heads together to solve the mystery of the fires that could cost a lot of lives
Who knew Sharon MacCabe, reporter for the Charleston Times would find the Right Kind of Lover?
Sharon MacCabe, a write for the Charleston Times, who’d been assigned to the Fire department for the past 6 months would be involved in covering an arsonist? Sharon’s boss Wayne assigned her to this beat to only tell her, that the spot was now being assigned to Lucas Stanton, the nephew of Senator Kurt Stanton who was running again. Lucas was newly graduated from West Virginia State College and had no background in journalism. Sharon worked her way to that position, and was incised at being pushed out. Being the go getter that she is, Sharon continued with her own investigation which included interviewing the newly appointed Fire Chief Matthew Stanton. Upon meeting sparks flare between the journalist and the fire chief! These sparks lent themselves to a difficult time for the two. Matthew found the reporter to be the typical reporter, nosey and quick to make false accusations, things he had faced back in Pittsburgh. Sharon found the fire chief to be terse, stand offish and defensive, despite painting quite a handsome picture in his uniform! Tensions between the two don’t make it easy to find out who the arsonist is, along with Sharon no longer being assigned to the Fire Dept. Through all the modicum of put upon pleasantries, the two begin working a united front, workwise as well as personally, while both of their lives are put in danger. Questions are asked, answers show themselves, along with Sharon finding The Right Kind of Lover for her.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review. Honestly? If more contemporary romance was this well written, I would read a lot more contemporary romance. This book hooks from the start and delivers all the way through. Sharon is a reporter who loves her job but that job is taken away and given to a senator's nephew just as a string of fires brings her into contact with the new fire inspector. The attraction between the two sizzles but trust issues on both sides keep them at arm's length. Unable to let go of the story, Sharon teams up with Mathew to help solve the case of arson. They grow closer emotionally even as they grow closer to answers and the danger grows lethal. The book kept me hooked and the story satisfies. I loved it and I would definitely suggest it to my friends. You won't be disappointed.
Amazing read I absolutely loved the characters the way the book was written u could feel the angry, hurt, bitterness, and the love each character portrayed.. My first time read Patricia I'll will read her again.
This was an interesting read as Matt & Sharon learned how to trust again. Storyline held my attention while finding out who was really the culprit behind the fires.
