Whatever it takes, as long as it takes. He’d been dead for years.
Billy Pearson’s cover for the work he did for the CIA had come at a high price. Betrayed by the CIA, he was dead to all who used to know him. Guardian gave him the opportunity to start over. However, the new doctor assigned to the training annex has an uncanny resemblance to the woman he once loved. That sucker punch left Billy raw. He didn’t want to be around her, to feel the emotions again, or to grieve.
She celebrated the living.Lillian Montrose loved working with warriors, especially her Guardian charges. But she’d never had one treat her like Billy did. The man had a chip on his shoulder from the moment she walked through the door. His negative attitude practically slapped her in the face. Putting aside her initial attraction, Lillian wasn’t sure she wanted to break through the questions and disposition surrounding Billy.
They weren’t compatible. Or were they? Just when their feelings for each other begin to heat up, Lillian’s Mercy Team is activated, and Billy is assigned as their overwatch. No longer doctor and patient but members of the same team, their mission reveals more than the simmering attraction between them. Real enemies she could defeat, but how could she fight a ghost from the past?

Billy is the next book in the Guardian Defenders series and what a story❣️
Guardian is once again on the defensive and have been asked by the President to help with a possible threat to Peace talks that will be occurring in France, in a few months time. Lillian has started working with Guardian and is filling in for Adam Cassidy. While there she meets Billy, but for some reason, he avoids her as much as he can.
Billy soon comes around with some help from Dr Wheeler and soon a friendship flourishes between them. However, it’s soon clear the threat is more serious than anyone expected😳
A great story and I look forward to whatever comes next😍
Loved Billy and LIllian and all Billy has to work through. When Billy and Lillian first meet, Billy acts very strangely because she resembles soneone he loved but because he "died" when he went to work for Guardian he couldn't have her. He blames himself for her losing the baby and what happened to her after she was told he was dead. After he has to see for to get his hand stitched up because of a "murder kitten" and he sees Dr Wheeler to work through all the issues he had buried deep inside. He then starts to pursue Lillian and there is an instant attraction. Lillian works on a Mercy Team but because her partner is just married and took several months off, she is helping in the clinic while Adam is on vacation. When she is pulled up for a mission with several other Mercy Teams and Billy makes sure he is assigned the overwatch for her team. They are trying to prevent an unknown contagion from being spread at Summit to sign a peace treaty when she recognizes her ex who had been supposedly fired for creating contagions of deadly proportion. Will they be able to stop him? What happens when he is holding her partner hostage? Will she still have a Mercy Team when her partner decides not to come back after being hurt on this mission?
"Here's hoping all our ghosts stay where they belong"
Unfortunately those who work for Guardian have ghosts of the most dangerous kind....and they rarely stay in the past where they belong! Billy knows he has to face his ghosts and his past, but he has no idea that in doing so he will find the woman made for him. I love Lil, she is smart, driven, determined, sassy, funny and just as dinted and wary as Billy, but together they find more than they ever hoped for. I really like the ease they find together, that they can discuss their hopes, their fears and their ghosts, honestly and with no judgement from the other. They are both a little crazy, but it is the best sort of crazy ... especially when they are crazy together! Billy has been with us as part of the support cast for a number of books, so it is awesome to see him get his HEA, it's a future he wasn't sure he was ever going to get, he wasn't even sure it is one he deserved, but he is wise enough to hold tight and do "Whatever it takes, for as long as it takes"
I borrowed Billy ~ Gurardian Defenders ~ Book 9, by Kris Michaels from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
Billy is a sniper that works at the training facility in South Dakota training the new recruits on the range and in tircks in the field to keep them alive and their fellow Guardians. He also sometimes deploys to watch over a team when they need extra eyes to keep them safe.
One day he visits a Russian sniper that is in the hospital recovering when a new doctor comes into the room and blows his mind. She looks like his ex-grilfriend and sounds like her too. This sets the story for Lilian and Billy as they get to know one another, learn to have fune together and prepare for a mission to protect the peace conference in Paris with mulitple threats. Love the details, the planning for the mission and training of all of the teams going to Paris with the hands on control of the leaders of Gurarian and the tech teams too. Suspense and exciting to the end with a happy ending for Lilian and Billy too. Kris Michaels knows how to weave the love story into the excitement.
Billy is the ninth book in the Guardian Defenders series by Kris Michaels. With this series, Ms. Michaels delivers a compelling mix of romantic suspense, tactical action, and emotional storytelling. It’s another spin-off from the Kings of Guardian series, and definitely doesn’t disappoint, retaining the same high-energy pacing and interconnected worldbuilding I have come to expect from Ms. Michaels, while also introducing us to new operatives with their own unique missions and personal challenges. Each book can be read as a standalone romance that’s wrapped up in a high-stakes operation - but I would be remiss not to mention that together they form a cohesive web of loyalty, trust, and found family. Once again, Ms. Michaels delivers authentic action sequences grounded in military and covert operations, distinct character voices that make each operative memorable, interconnected relationships that add an extra dynamic to the overall series, and the perfect balance between suspense and romance. Happy Reading…
Billy came a long way from his “dark side” but when he met Malice’s Russian girlfriend’s doctor who’s strong resemblance to his former girlfriend who due to a mission and subsequent “supposed death” having been played and recruited to a “non-existent” US government agency, he freaked an ran. This was due to what he saw as a very strong resemblance at first glance to his former girlfriend now married with a family and still believing he is dead. The guilt over this betrayal by the government agency because he was “played” still eats at him. Lillian has her own cross to bare because she too was manipulated by an unethical doctor who supposedly loved her. It is a compelling story of betrayal, love and a deadly mission with so many tentacles it will be difficult to put down. For me the involvement of Jason, Jacob and Joseph gave me a little “Kings of Guardians” fix! Now something new is on the horizon in spoiler alerts but you can read and find out for yourself!

Hoooweeee, What a beauty. So much info to digest and keep abreast of. It was so exciting. I loved the interaction of my favourites, the alpha team. And fury....(sigh) he was so much fun in his droll way. The new names had me fist pumping, which I'm so bubbling over to settle in to for another round of guardians within Kris's awesome mind. I love it when Hollister comes in to play, especially when I'm privy to the characters. The suspense and Intel was mixed nicely with Billy and Lillian's romance so it kept a wonderful pace. When show time came around it was all systems go, I was wowed. However all I can say is thank goodness for the Kings. It's just wonderful to get Kris's complex mind in a story. It was like a flashback to earlier books. Loved the humour and angst and romance, such a wonderful bundle of emotion. Matt haynes, thankyou again for your fantastic voice
Billy and Lillian are an interesting couple with an odd start. Lillian played a key part in a previous book in her role as a doctor and now we see her take center again as they all face a major dangerous situation. Both of their histories come into play through personal and professional moments. The book was odd with their start so it was hard to jump into it. I didn’t remember Billy, but he had to have been in Asps story since that played a role in the backstory he shared with Lillian. Also, I kept getting confused by some of the names and trying to remember if they were new or form an older book. as always it is a delight to see the siblings who run Guardian and the overarching story of who is causing the problems they are finding behind the scenes in government. The new class sounds promising and a great way to keep the series or world moving.
NOTE: Kindle EBook Edition reviewed Guardian has become involved in another global conflict. It is completely covert, and it takes all Guardian's talent to ferret out the issue. A worldwide gathering of dignitaries will meet in Paris to sign an agreement and a bitter oligarch is waging revenge on Guardian. The plot is amazing, a testament to Ms. Michaels' skill, and Billy Pearson, a former CIA asset "killed" by them, has been hiding in plain sight. When he meets a woman who reminds him of his painful past, he runs away from her. He realizes that she is not the woman he once knew, and then they begin to get acquainted. While training and preparing a rehearsal for the event, they become closer. There's a surprise or two, but an astute reader will see it coming. Well done and can't wait for the next one.
When operative Billy Pearson saw Dr. Lillian Montrose, he was irrationally angry. He was so out of control about it, a visit to Jeremiah was called for. After Billy gets the nerve, he apologies to Lillian and the pair start a fast friendship that quickly turns to romance. Meanwhile, Guardian has the plum assignment of safeguarding a peacekeeping summit but that news is quickly followed by rumors of a biological weapon to be dispersed there. Extra training and personnel are brought up to speed as Guardian leadership realizes they are missing something huge.
One of my favorites in the series, I liked the plot, pacing, Billy and Lillian but anytime Fury is around, other characters pale for this reader. Unfortunately, the entire Guardian universe can’t be discovered again for the first time by me. Rating: 4.5stars
Another great book in the Guardian Universe. Part of what makes characters into heroes is when they overcome their own personal demons. This is the great thing about this story. Both characters are damaged from their past but are not broken by it.
Billy is enjoying his new life at Guardian until stranger unknowingly blows his past straight to the service. Lillian has been hurt and controlled before. Though on the outside she is successful and in seemingly in control, could her past be holding her back from a possible future?
Of course, this is not a great character story. There are still big changes, challenges, and challengers to Gurdian itself. I love the mix of the old and new generations of Guardians working together. Lije every book I am hooked for the next one.
Good book This book has it all - romance, action, intrigue and camaraderie. Billy and Lillian make a wonder couple. They have the same sense of humor with fun banters and treat each other very well. They both have baggage from their previous relationship so they started off as friends who are attracted to each other. The plot was interesting with a threat happening in France a couple of months out. It was important enough that we got to see all the Guardian heads (archangel, alpha, Fury and Jewell) involved and see them work through the problem and intel together. That part was nice even though I unnecessarily stressed about the big issues with the threat. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one in this world, spanning over 3 different book series.
I absolutely love diving into the Guardian World! Billy freaks out when he meets the Lillian, a Mercy Team Dr on rotation at The ranch. She reminds him of the ex fiancée who was informed he was unalived on a mission. So he makes it a point to avoid her at all costs until the murder kittens attack him and he needs stitches. His best friend talks him into seeing Doc Wheeler again and his homework for the week is talking to her. Lillian has a d bag in her past so a friendship forms and grows as does a threat to Guardian and a peace treaty. As the Mercy Teams prepare for some kind of biological agent and other attacks the King family searches for who is gunning for them. This book is action packed, suspenseful and steamy and I loved it.
Wow! What a fantastic story by Kris! This story is about Billy and Lillian. The beginning was interesting! Billy thought that Lillian was his ex in disguise. When he found out she wasn't, he took to liking her a lot. They pretty much worked together to prepare for the big international summit that was coming up. It was good to see the King family work through who was involved. They are definitely good! It's sad to see Lillian's partner get shot and then decide to leave Guardian. So happy that this couple found their happiness in each other. FANTASTIC job Kris! I would highly recommend this book!
I really liked this one. I love the Guardian series any ay. We first meet Billy in Asp's book and he isn't painted in the best light. It is good to see him get his HEA with Dr. Lillian, who is badass, smart and knows what she will and will not put up with. You of course get to visit with some of your favorites in the Guardian family. Kris Michaels is always on my must read list. But this time I had to flip a coin between this one and Dangerous Affair by Riley Edwards to see which I was going to read first. This one won. But Dangerous Affair was awesome too.
Billy and Lillian both have ghosts in their pasts stopping them from future relationships. When work at Guardian forces them to work together they show their maturity and get help to work through the issues leaving them free to act on their mutual attraction. Lillian’s past comes back to bite not just them but potentially on an international scale. Kris never has a halfhearted problem in her stories and we certainly get full on drama in this book Cannot wait for the rest of this story arc. Excellent book.
Billy is seeing a ghost per se. When he went to get some answers, he thinks he sees a woman from his past. He later finds out he is wrong. Lillian is at Guardian now working on a Mercy team. The first time she meets Billy, he ran away from her. Now they have settled what sent him running. Guardian has been called into a mission that no one is comfortable with, but will do their best. When the time comes, will Guardian be able to stop the threat? Will Billy and Lillian be able to stay working together?
Decent read for the series. As all of these series runs together, it helps to have read previous books by this author. I liked Billy and Lil together. Per usual for this author, much of the story was focused on the suspense side of things with another major threat. Many of the characters from other books made appearances, it wasn’t as overwhelming as some of these books, but it was more than necessary as it’s a bit overwhelming trying to remember who is who. All together, decent read and well told story.
Loved the interaction between Billy and Lillian. There initial meeting was not very good he thought he was seeing a ghost and quickly left, they meet again after the murdering kitten attack. They both have baggage to overcome but eventually overcome the obstacles and the relationship grows and becomes intense on a mission where her ex shows up. This is a must read and starts to mention the names of the new class of assassins
Billy is excited to meet the new sharp shooter who is recovering at the ranch. He is cut short when the doctor shows up and his is shocked then she resembles someone from his past . Lillian isn’t sure why the very cute Billy runs off but it seems like he can’t stand the sight of her . Both characters have had bad experiences from past relationships that they will need to over come to be able to work together and possibly have something very special.
I liked that it was shown that therapy is okay, useful, healing, and sometimes necessary to overcome life's various challenges. It can help you move forward and accept/make the best of your situation.
For the most part, I didn't care for the mfc except when it came to her job. The drama at the end with Abe and her ex was just whack. The whole situation could have been handled better, but Kris usually does this in her books.
Oh wow... Kris does it again! What another absolutely thrilling story in The Guardian Defenders series. I loved Billy and Lillian exciting story. Fun with the King's throughout the book and some of the Guardian Security Defenders. Brilliant storyline with fantastic characters and absolutely loved the HEA. Can't wait for Elliott's story next.
It was good to read Billy's story. And his involvement with Guardian. Lilly is a doctor who has been chosen to work with Guardian and became more with him. Both had a past with hurt and lies. Hers seems to come back and haunt the assignment she was given. But with Billy and the defenders around she has someone who will protect her.
I have loved all the Guardian books and “Billy” is no exception. The story of the main characters is wonderfully written with the other Guardians flowing in and out so seemlessly, you feel like they are old friends. Whist there is always a Guardian theme, each story has its own theme and nuances making them a joy to read. My only issue is the length of time waiting for the next book 🥰
Billy, the sitty, humoeous, loving sniper meets the intelligent, compassionate Dr. Lillian in the most in complimentary way. Hoever, their journey together began awkwardly but turned into a glorious love fest. As always danger comes in a Guardian story but an HEA is assured. Great story.
Military then CIA as a dead person, then Guardian as one of their best snipers. Paired with Asp they both teach and deploy. He meets the doc with baggage and receives a huge shock when she reminds him of his ex fiance. They both lose their baggage and fall in love to marry after a mission that kills the monster of her past.
Another Great book by Kris Michael's! After Asp's story I wondered what would happen to Billy, so very happy he got his own story. His and William's story was full of suspense, plenty of action and their HEA. Highly recommend this book.
I really enjoy the Guardian Defenders books. I love a strong heroine and Lillian is awesome. She and Billy seem to fit together seamlessly. He seems like such a great guy and they make a strong and amazing couple. They will be a real asset to the Annex and to Hollister.
Great book, loved that both had similar issues from past loves. The plot had some twists and turns that kept you entertained and the ending was extremely unexpected. I love all the Guardian books and this section is just as good as the rest.
Billy: is intense, exciting, romantic, and full of adventure. Kris Michaels did an excellent job of writing this story! She keeps the readers on the edge of their seats. Billy's story was hot and very entertaining. I could not stop reading his story. It was fantastic!
