Rate this book
Ainsley Evina "Evi" MacLean has lost both of her grandparents within a year of each other. Her Grandfather left her a letter telling her that she needs to learn to live life outside of her books, because a book can never love her back.

Taking his advice, she sells her home, and decides to spend a year in Edinburgh, Scotland.

While there in Scotland, she finds herself giggling over the adorable Scottish accents, and falling for two Scottish men.

Ian MacGregor is a dark haired, green eyed gentleman, who also happens to be a Professor at the University at Edinburgh, where Evi has signed up to take a course he teaches on Scottish History.
Edwin MacMillan is a blue eyed, muscular, kilted God who runs the local Pub just up the road from Evi's cottage.

Will one of these sexy Scots teach Evi to live and love outside of her books?

I bought this book three years ago and .... why on earth I have left it sleeping in my Kindle for so long is a mystery to me. I've got one thing to say about this book first... leaving everything behind and start a new life in Scotland would be my dream come true. I fell in love with Scotland and its people the first time I visited that beautiful country and I was therefore able to relate with Evie on so many levels that I felt like I was there with her, literally. Author Champlain perfectly captures Evie's reactions to her new 'environment' and weaves Evie's emotional growth like she would a delicate fabric, showing us that with each new thread comes a new awareness on Evie's part of her own strenght, and of where happines truly lies.
Can you be envious of a fictional character?

I recently got an ecopy of From Scotland, With Love in exchange for an honest review. I fell in love with the cover (compliments to the photographer! Isn’t it amazing?) and I was only waiting for my exam week to finish before I started to read it. I started it on Thursday afternoon and I was done by Friday morning :) That fact ought to tell you something.

From Scotland, With Love: Evi’s Story is the first book in the Scotland Romance series by author C.L. Champlain. The story is quite interesting and it was a refreshing read for me after all the management & business stuff I’ve been reading lately ;) It’s generally well written and fun to read. Especially the Scottish language parts. I loved those!

Apart from the things I already mentioned above, I liked that all the places mentioned in the book are real places. I’d love to see them for myself one day. They sound amazing. I liked the way the author portrayed a foreigner’s point of view on Scottish traditions and customs. Evi’s reactions to certain events/situations may seem hilarious. But, when I think about it now, I realize that they were not. What is more, I’d probably react in the same way. The book is written in such a manner that allows the reader to relate to the characters and situations. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty cool.

In the My thoughts on posts, I also say what I disliked about a particular book. There were very few things I disliked about this book. Teeny tiny details that I won’t mention because I don’t want to ruin the book for you. I can’t explain what those are without including some spoilers. Get your hands on this book, read it and let me know you have if you want to discuss it.

From Scotland...With Love: Evi's Story is the first book in Ms. Champlain's new adult series based in Scotland.

Evi finds herself alone after her grandparents pass on. She sells her family home to her best friend, Teresa, and turns the family pub over to Roger, the manager. Her grandfather has left her a note pleading that she go visit her ancestral homeland instead of burying her head in her books.

Once in Scotland Evi finds herself in some rather hilarious situations, some embarrassing situations, and a rough corner or two.

Ah, how I adore Evi. One thing you notice from the get go is that you feel like you're Evi and traveling across the world to go on a year long adventure. She's hyper, fun, intelligent, and just the type of person you would want to be friends with - especially if you're the "huggy" type.

There's a cheat sheet in the beginning of the book that explains the Scottish terms that are used throughout the book. I have decided that it's a true testament of the Scottish blood that runs stubbornly through me as I was able to translate as I went along without needing the cheat sheet. Okay, so there was a word or two that made me think twice and have to ask, but other than that the writing just flowed smoothly.

I could say more, but I'm known to be a spoiler at times, so I'll just leave you to figure out if you're Team Neil, Eddie, Ian, or Rury!

I can't wait to read more in this fun series.

Description from the publisher:
***THIS BOOK CONTAINS ADULT SITUATIONS, LANGUAGE, AND SEXUAL SITUATIONS. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ONLY THOSE OVER THE AGE OF 18 READ THIS BOOK.***

Evi has been plagued by loss in her life that has left her with debilitating panic attacks and nightmares. Upon his death, her last relative, he has left her a letter encouraging her to use her inheritance to travel. She has chosen to visit Scotland to see where her grandparents met. Because of the differences in culture, she finds herself embarrassed to be in the center of a triangle.

I absolutely loved this story. I can most identify with Evi. I usually prefer the lives I live in my books over taking chances with real people and it takes a lot to convince me to try something new. When she, or I, do jump into something, it is with both feet and no regrets. Evi and I also have a tendency to giggle and blush around handsome men with cute accents.

I had the wonderful fortune to meet Ms. Champlain, at an online party, along with her inspirations for Eddie and Ian. They are warm, funny people with a great zest for life that is well translated into this story. I only wish we could have talked Eddie into sharing a picture of himself in his kilt.

Reading this book is a little like St. Patrick’s Day – as long as you’re reading it, you are part Scottish!

Recommended for: 18+ due to adult situations, sexual content
Grammar/editing: B – a few small errors

I loved this book from the very beginning. The opening letter is so tender and full of love that I was able to feel it in my heart as if it was my own grandfather talking to me.
Evi decided to visit Scotland after reading her grandfather's letter to find out why he loved it so much. There she met several Scottish kilted Gods, her housemate Neil, her professor Ian, the local pub owner Eddie and Eddie's brother Rury. Soon, Evi learn to love all of them but since the beginning it was only one who meant more for her than the others.
The author made a great research of locations, being all of them real. And of course, I can't forget the Scottish accent. At the beginning was a bit odd, but after a while I got used to it and didn't have problems to understand except fo one or two words.
A book full of friendship, jealousy, rivalry and above all passion, Scottish passion... If you want to know who is the chosen one, read the book and you'll find out. You won't regret it at all.
I received an ARC.

I have wanted to go to Scotland and Ms Champlain took me on a tour. This is Evi’s story of loss and her road to finding her inner strength and personal power. She lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her grandparents. When they pass she is alone and has made a promise to her grandfather to go out and learn about the world, but NOT through books. She decides to go to Scotland, the land of her heritage, to find out why it was so important and special to her grandparents.

Evi leaves behind all she knows to travel to Edinburgh, Scotland. She is enrolled to take classes in Scottish History so she can be in Scotland for a year. This is a wonderful journey from panic to discovery of personal strength and love. It is a sweet love story and I am looking forward to reading other stories by Ms. Champlain.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Having loved this author's first three books, I was eager to read something new from her. This book did not disappoint. It was adventurous and romantic - and funny. The character of Evi was written wonderfully, with a great sense of family and I loved her desire to get out there and take on the world despite any issues she faced. She was a strong woman that needed a strong man.

Enter the men.... First of all, yum! The mental picture that was painted of their looks, and their accents made me instantly swoon over each and every one, Neil, Ian, Eddie, Rury - loved them all. Initially, I was TEAM IAN. I thought he was more stable and that Eddie might be just a sexy player. My opinion changed very quickly, though, and I ended up falling in love with Eddie and his entire family!!

Great book with great characters...Loved it!

I give this just 2 1/2 stars. The plot felt superficial and unpolished to me. Evi's thoughts and actions felt more like a 14 year old girl than a woman of 23 and the romance developed much too quickly to be credible for me. The Scottish dialogue was initially charming but was excessive and I got tired of it by the end. I did like elements of this book. The plot was cute and I liked all of the key players even though the characters were somewhat under-developed. I'm unsure if I'll read the next book in this series.

I read the book because I fell in love with the author on FB. I'm so glad I did. From Scotland, With Love, Evi's Story was wonderful, filled with the visual imagery of Scotland, its people and culture. The love story of Evi and her gorgeous kilted God is beautifully woven with the poetry of Robert Burns, delightful history, and descriptions of a picturesque land. And the language! Swoon! The author manages to write in such a way you almost hear her lover's accent. I don't have enough adjectives to describe my delight at finding this author and her books!

The book was great. Evi reminds me of me in so many ways, and who doesn't love when they can relate to the main character. Plus HOT, HOT, HOT Scotsman. I didn't know men in kilts were so hot until this book. The values that they hold dear make them sexy.
Wow, I fell in love with all of the characters and look forward to reading about each of their journeys.

This was great. It was a fun easy enjoyable read. I am of Scottish heritage and she did a great job of making Scotland seem real to me. And I am not letting my daughter go to Scotland now, she will not want to come back! LOL :-)

Had a hard time staying with this one.. Poorly written, although I am so obsessed with Celtic love stories I had to stick with it. I wouldn't recommend this book for adults. Definitely one for teenagers if anything.
