I'm an Egyptian woman - born in Central Africa and raised all over the world. I came back to Egypt when I was 18 years old and have lived here, happily, every since. By way of work, I'm an academic dean, an educator, and a writer.
As far as my writing goes, I tend to "break the mold". Honestly, I'd shatter the bloody thing if I could. I like to change things up and keep things fresh and new and original. So, if a book idea burns in me, I light the flames and write it.
My favorite stories always flirt with old mythology and are intertwined with lots of romance and adventure. Be warned now: I LOVE writing a good plot twist!
In the labyrinth of my fantasy-driven mind, pens are my wands and I'll spin the tales like a dervish-man.
There has always been something about Egyptian mythology that has been exciting to me. I love the mummy movies and anything to do with Egyptian mythology most of the time. This book was great. This book has all the fun things about Egyptian mythology I enjoy and more. * I received this book from the author and this is my honest review*
I have always loved anything related to Ancient Egypt, so "The Ankhs" fed my fascination. This book has everything you would expect in an Egyptian fantasy: intrigue, love, and loss, all set against the magical backdrop of the desert and the nile. While I was reading, I was sucked into the world of the ancients. The vibrant descriptions and interesting characters kept me going until the last page. And what an unexpected ending!
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the ancient Egyptian culture, and anyone who enjoys getting lost in fantasy books. Great read!
It is impossible to not like the narrator. She is Torri as a little girl and Hathor as a maiden. Her voice is the water spilling from a fountain with the energy and enthusiasm of youth. In fact, the lyrical prose present in most of the book is almost hypnotizing in the telling. I love books with a folkloric content and this story, taking place in ancient Egypt, where one can stand with one foot in the Nile and one on the desert, is brimming with characters that we loved in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights: Djinns (Genies) hiding behind Zafrin—invisibility--from the humans; a powerful Pharaoh, now being ruled by an enviable love; and a war between the characters that will alter life as they each knew it. We have learned about the prophecy but there is an interesting anagram that is mentioned several times, whetting my appetite for possible future episodes of what can be a fascinating series.
Greatly recommended book - about the ancient Egyptian culture, a fantasy books. Torri as a little girl and Hathor as a maiden and the mystical world of the Djinn. Great read!
The Ankhs tells us a story of ancient gods of Egypt and the mystical world of the Djinn in an incredible tale that entwines fantasy, history, and romance in a way that brings the reader to a deep connection to the forgotten humanity that we seem to overlook when we speak, read, or think about gods.
The reader finds Torri, a child growing up around every day people, the people she would come to admire, help, and see but will quickly realize to them, that she is unknown. Their eyes would and will never acknowledge her very existence till one day when she discovers the secret that her parents had been holding back. This book not only personifies gods and demons but brings the audience closer than they ever could be reading the drawl of your generic history book.
Granted the work may not yield an archaeological account of life in ancient Egypt but with constant twists, turns, and surprises, it inspires the beauty and mystery of ancient Egypt’s history and brings home the realization that seven thousand years later we still search for ways that we can connect to each other telling stories of mythology, romance, or fiction and having the reader develop a close relationship to the characters that connects us as humans understanding what love and sacrifice is.
This is more than just a story of romance, fantasy, and history but a fairytale for adults with the same intensity as the Grimms and Gaiman alike.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Having been to Egypt, studying Egyptology, I was fascinated and thrilled to read such a great book. A well deserving 5 stars.
My mind was held captive within three sentences of this book! I felt like I was connected somehow with these past lives! It is an intimate story that brings the reader in immediately! A most wondrous tale that has kept me up all night! I simply couldn't put it down! To sleep? How could my dreams be better than this? I received this book directly from the author promising nothing but an Honest review! If you can just read the first few sentences and Honestly say you Didn't read more, then you are a fool or a liar!
