Stumbling off the bus in Midtown, Harley Martin thought she found an escape from her old life.

She soon realizes it was anything but that.

Low on cash and options, she manages to find herself a cheap but surprisingly nice apartment. The catch? The last tenant, Brody Walsh, killed himself.

Or did he?

As disturbing dreams and hauntings start to occur, Harley realizes there may be much more behind the previous tenant’s death than a simple suicide. She finds her life further entangled with his when she learns that her new boss, Nolan, was also his best friend. Could this handsome but evasive pub owner have something to do with Brody’s death?

Trying to piece together the events surrounding Brody’s death proves to be a daunting task, but Harley can’t give up. Brody won’t let her. He is still in the apartment with her, trapped in limbo until she finds his killer.

But he’s not waiting for revenge.

Harley’s next.

After a shaky kind of start, I was worried that I wasn't going to like this at all. Thank chuff I was wrong!

These were my initial knee-jerk thoughts after reading the opening chapters:

The small problem I have is that ‘Finley’s’ sounds like a very Irish pub.. like the leagues of them you find in Tenerife (what is it with Tenerife and Irish bars?) but rather than the obligatory Celtic pattern on the outside, it instead described more cliché England? But then, that might be the point. I’ve never been in a pub outside the UK so I wouldn’t know! ^.^

I was also put off a little by the opening, only because of how expected it was. Soon-to-be Stepford wife poisons nasty husband? That old trick? Also, how did she fall asleep on the bus? I’d be on the edge of my seat for the whole journey, out of fear!

As for money.. Sell the diamonds! She was dripping in them!

__

What turned this over for me? NOLAN! My gosh. From the moment he was half asleep and half clad on the sofa, I was a gonner.

Also, I love the spooky! There were some moments were the tension and suspense of the hauntings was almost too much for me! (What? I'm a wuss really.. just like Harley, I was allowed to watch a horror film far too young and as a result can't sleep in the dark. I think it was Hellraiser for me, rather than The Shining though)

__

What I enjoyed the most:

Nolan - 'Nuff said.

Aggie - I want to date her. (What? She's bad ass!)

The Spooky - The supernatural element to the mystery kept me reading. It reminded me a little of some of the Cordelia episodes in Angel, but only slightly. Which isn't a bad thing because I love those! Heh.

Great characterisation.

__

A solid 4/5.

Well, up until the end of the book, I had been considering giving this half a star more, but once the killer is confirmed, I couldn't justify it.

Possess is about a girl named Harley, who is a perpetual damsel in distress, who eats a lot, sleeps a lot, hurts herself a lot and also works at a pub with some Irish-folk after having dramatically escaped an abusive ex.

I was under the impression, with the name of the book, how the book started, and the paranormal content, that this book was going to focus on the paranormal aspect of things. It doesn't.
I had thought that this book was going to be some kind of thriller. It wasn't.

Actually, to be honest, this book is boring. Nothing happens in this book. There's a bit of excitement in the beginning, and then there's a few scenes of Harley being victimized, and/or injured, and there's slight involvement with a ghost, but the focus is on Harley doing mundane things. She's not an extraordinary character. She's not even likable. She's pitiful. I wasn't really a fan of constantly feeling sorry for her.

I wasn't sure why everyone had an accent. Nolan, especially. They had lived in the states their whole life. I could maybe see a hint of an accent, but not a full blown one. He wasn't from Ireland. It was way over the top.

As for who the killer was. What. The. Fuck? It didn't make sense. There was absolutely no reason for it. I think this would have been better had the whole paranormal and multiple fatalities been avoided in this book. Had it just been focused on revenge, it would have actually made sense. Aside from the ridiculousness of it all, it was also predictable.

Unfortunately, I got nothing from this read.

My Review:
This book was so good...OMG! I started it on a Saturday morning when I had a million and one things to get done, not thinking that I would get sucked in as quickly as I did, but this story grabbed me and didn't let go. So good!

Harley left her abusive, controlling fiance in the middle of the night after drugging him. She hopped on a bus going across the country and randomly chose where she got off. Her first stroke of good luck was wandering into an authentic Irish pub where she befriended the bartender, Aggie. Aggie convinced the bar owner, Nolan, that Harley would be a perfect addition to their wait staff. Next thing to find: a place to live. Harley was amazed when she found the perfect furnished apartment at an unbelievably cheap price, but there was a reason for that which she quickly found out....it was haunted by the previous tenant.

From page one this book captured me. As the reader, you are following Harley's life which is waitressing, painting, and dealing with her apartment, but there are so many questions swirling: What exactly happened that night before she left her fiance? What happened to the man with the green eyes? Is he out to hurt her or is he just trying to reach out to her? What exactly happened to Brody? What happened to Nolan? Is her fiance going to find her?J.A. Howell gives you tiny snippets of information...enough so you are never confused about what's going on, but you definitely don't know the full story. It's suspense at its best and I loved watching all the layers reveal through the story. (As a suspense writer, I am ABSOLUTELY in awe of the way that she tells her stories....so good!)

And that's just everything going on with Harley. The other side is Nolan, the Irish owner of the pub. Almost the entire story is told from Harley's POV, so all you get of him are her observations, but this is a guy sending off mixed signals. One minute, you know that he really wants and is intrigued by her, but the next he suddenly becomes harsh and cold. Eventually you find out exactly what happened to precipitate all these changes, but again the details are revealed really slowly. It should also be noted that Nolan has a brogue, washboard abs, and curly hair...YUMMY!

I truly loved everything about this book. The characters are amazing. The story is riveting. There is the perfect balance of creepiness, suspense and romance. This book has a little bit of everything. I absolutely laughed out loud a few times, but I also cried during one section. It's just an expertly woven story and I can't wait to read more in the series.

Harley leads a stressful life.. Her BF is a douchebag and well shes had enough of it all .. She snaps. In a desperate attempt to leave she poisons his food. Only she didnt use enough she ends up fighting her life. Eventually she has him incapacitated enough to take his money and his car. She jumps on a bus and rides. Ending up in Midtown.
Luckily she quickly befriends the bartender Aggie, at the local pub. Aggie convinces her boss to give Harley a shot. Not only that but quickly Harley finds an apartment for rent, rent so low its practically highway robbery. Come to find out the cheap rent has to do with the fact the previous tenet committed suicide in the apartment and every person who has attempted to in the apartment has been chased away.
And because its a small world her new Boss (walking sex) Nolan just so happened to be best friends with the deceased. Brody and him were thick as thieves and even after all these years Brody is a sore subject with Nolan. Okay let me sidetrack here. I had a difficult time with Nolan, I had to rename him in my head. His in my head name was Liam. I know your thinking wtf for, well one of my childrens name is Nolan and it felt creepy calling Nolan a walking orgasm. SOOO I went with Liam. Okay folks back to the story. Nolan obviously has a thing for Harley but coming off the relationship she jus did shes obviously not ready PLUS shes got sooo much going on between living with a ghost shes convinced is trying to kill her and some more drama!! This drama may or may not include her ex im not tellin (yes, yes it does). The girl is trying to literally keep her head above water.
I really enjoyed Possess, however I feel the series should be renamed Everybody dies. An opinion I shared with Howell. Lets see if she takes my advice. The story was mysterious and hard NOT to get into. I literally almost peed my pants I was so involved with the story. I couldn’t be bothered to go through the process of voiding my bladder. The series is a few deep and im looking forward to reading more about these characters.

Sometimes you just find a jewel. I got this book for free from Amazon and one day I was on Audible doing a comparison of kindle books to audios. That's where you can get an audio for much cheaper if you have the kindle book already. Anyway, the audio was for 1.99 so I thought that wasn't so bad since I got the book for free and I had never heard o the author before. Glad that I did!

This is one awesome book. I love the authors writing style. She has just enough detail without it being a lot of fluff and gets to the meat of the story fairly quick. The tory itself was fantastic. I found it was easy to follow without being elementary and exciting. I feel in love with Nolan so the connection with the characters was definitely there. Harley had been through so much and during the entire story I found myself praying she would find her happy place and every time that I thought that would happen...something would happen.

The story is riveting and suspenseful. I absolutely enjoyed and highly recommend.

Harley runs away from a bad relationship and ends up in Midtown, Rhode Island. She quickly gets a job and an apartment too. The only thing about her apartment is that it’s haunted by its last occupant Brody Walsh. To make everything more interesting, the pub owner where she works, along with the waitress that helps her get the job were friends with Brody. She very quickly gets all tangled up with what happened to Brody, as his ghost is pushing her to find the truth as well.
I liked this book, it was interesting and is well written. I would recommend this story to anyone looking for a good paranormal murder mystery. I got so caught up in the story I didn’t want to put it down. I mean what’s better than a murder mystery and romance all in the same place? I will be on the watch for more from J. A. Howell.

I was given this book in return for an honest review.

Wow really enjoyed this book if you like spooky and romance this is the one for you.

Harley needed to get away from here crazy boyfriend she goes and find what she thinks is a nice town far enough away that she thinks that he will be unable to find her she finds a flat and a job at the local pub and that is were things begin to get interesting. It is one of these books that you may need to get the tissues out as the story unfolds.

This is a book that I will be recommending to friends it is a book that I will be more than happy to add to must read again list and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

It is most definitely worth the five stars and if it were possible to give more I would do.

Meh. So this book started great. I thought we had a winner. I was actually terrified in the first "haunted" seen in the apartment. Then things got repetitive. The same hauntings in the same way happened, and it just got old.

I liked Harley enough. She was pretty kick butt, and likable. The situation with her ex was a bit predictable. I knew how that was going to turn out right after the first couple of chapters.

The book just wasn't mysterious enough for me. I also ha a hard time continuing at times. I love a book that I hate to put down, and can't wait to pick it up again. I found myself thinking "Well, to start anything new, I need to get this over with.

Overall, I thought this book was a fantastic read. There were so many different things I never thought would happen in the book. I thought it was a slow start, but as I read on, I managed to figure it out. I thought about what would happen near the end and I was right. One character was behind it all and I was right all along.I can't wait to read book #2. Read. Like/love. Enjoy.

Let me start by saying that Chapter 1 had me so full of emotions that it was crazy! I was shouting, hooting, cringing, and laughing! AND WE STILL HAVE 37 MORE CHAPTERS TO GO!!!

Jackson Donnings is an entitled little prick and made my skin crawl and blood boil! I have met many Jackson-like people in my life and have often envisioned a cruel fate for such men. After the first chapter you would think that my hate for Jackson would be bountiful….boy was I wrong. Just wait, you’ll see what I mean later on in the book!

Harley is the main female role and flees from Jackson’s reign of terror. She hops on a bus and end up in Midtown. She starts to settle in by getting a job at Finley’s pub and landing an apartment. The apartment turns out to be her worst nightmare and her job turns into her savior. You see, the apartment, is haunted by Brody. Yeah that would be enough to freak me out but Harley having no other options for a place to live and her limited income, toughs it out. Her strength is what leaves me in awe. She has been through so much already and goes through even more in this book. In the end, Harley is a survivor and an awesome one at that!

Nolan Finley, owner of Finley’s Pub, is a bit of a grouch. He’s an Irishman and has the temper to go with it. Nolan has his reasons for being a grumpy gus but I’m not gonna spoil anything for you! He also has a thing for full bottom women and lo and behold, Harley fits the bill!

Aggie works at Finley’s Pub and is hilarious! I love her to death! Her uncle, Angus owns the bakery near the pub. Aggie is Scottish and a little spitfire! She can drink any man under the table and lets Nolan have it when she sees fit. She is also the first to notice the budding attraction between Nolan and Harley!!

Nolan and Aggie have a connection to the ghost Brody that is haunting Harley’s apartment. Talk about WTF??? You’re gonna love it! There are moments that I truly fear for Harley but Brody is just trying to help people figure out how he died. A lot of conspiracy and craziness surrounds his death (you’ll learn more about it in book 2 of the Possess Saga!).

The attraction between Nolan and Harley leads to some very funny moments. In fact, there are many funny moments in this book that made me laugh out loud. J.A. Howell is a master mind of twisting things around that leave you dumbstruck! It is a page turning thriller, suspense romance! I hope that makes sense to you. All I can say is that I highly recommend this book and this series. It was so great. My emotions were on a whirlwind roller coaster that I thought would never end! Go 1-click today! It’s free!!!

The apartment deal was too good to be true.

Harley Martin was on the run from her physically abusive fiancé—Jackson Donning, whose wealth from shady business dealings made him a powerfully dangerous man to cross. Seeking anonymity and a fresh start, Harley randomly fled to Midtown, a college town in New England that was worlds away from her trouble in Louisiana.

Harley doesn’t believe in ghosts.

Alone in an unfamiliar town, Harley had to immediately find work and lodging. Her luck seemed to change for the better when she stumbled into an offer of work at Finley’s pub. She next found a fully furnished apartment at a ridiculously low rate—surely too good to be true. When Harley finds out that the previous tenant committed suicide, she decides that she won’t let superstition keep her from the great apartment deal. Besides, she doesn’t believe in ghosts.

But one believes in her...

In the days and weeks that follow, Harley sees and senses a strange presence and has terrifying dreams. It seems she left one nightmare existence and traded for another, perhaps even worse. When Harley investigates her suspicions that the previous tenant was murdered, she puts herself in the crosshairs of something malevolent. Her list of suspects includes her boss, the enigmatic owner of Finley’s pub. Nolan is troubled and hiding something, but Harley can’t help falling for him.

...And enlists her to find his murderer before she becomes the next victim.

When it becomes clear that Harley is the killer’s next target, it seems that the ghostly presence that terrified her may be the only one she can trust…but will it be enough to survive the coming attack from an unnamed killer?

Harley's time is running out.

Possess was NOT what I expected from a free read. J.A. Howell crafted the best kind of spooky, creepy, and suspenseful story, and I highly recommend it. Although it is book one of a series, Possess is complete as a standalone, and it has a satisfying ending with no cliffhanger. It will, however, have you looking over your shoulder and checking the locks on your doors. Enjoy the scare!

Harley has had enough! One beating too many from her fiancé and so one evening during dinner, she drugs him, grabs her things, some of his money, and leaves his house while he lays unconscious on the floor.
And just a bus ride later she arrives in Midtown where she decides to start a new life.

It seems that for the first time in a long time Harley has some luck again:
She is offered a job as a waitress at the Irish pub she visits shortly after arriving in Midtown.
And the renting of an apartment is a piece of cake, too!

Along with her new job she makes the acquaintance with Aggie, a quirky young woman who soon will become her new friend, and Nolan, her handsome new boss.

Her apartment however, has a catch to it. One with deadly consequences...

I downloaded a free copy of this book at the kobo store.
The cover looked highly professional for a self published book, the synopsis sounded intriguing and I was definitely in the mood for a paranormal read.
And then I came to the second chapter...

O...O...
Can somebody please explain to me why some writers out there believe it crucial to the plot to describe how exactly the protagonist takes a shower???
Especially when it's not a scene like Norman Bates surprising Janet Leigh in "Psycho"?
But rest assured! Harley takes her showers just like the rest of us...

It seemed too early to me to abandon the book at this point and so I decided to read up to the introduction of the paranormal element and postpone my decision.
Well, the rest is history...
I read the book in about one sitting!

Please do not mistake my rating for high praise!
The plot acquired suspension of disbelief and the conclusion to the mystery of the story felt half-assed and illogical. The book could do with some additional editing, and at about 70% into the read there is an awkward switch in POVs.

The characters however, were well fleshed out and sympathetic.
Especially Aggie and Nolan.
Hmmmm, Nolan Finley and his brogue...*swoon*
I could read his lines of dialogue over and over again.

Despite its flaws, Possess is the first part in a saga which I am looking forward to continue!

***** I received an ARC copy for an honest review *****

Wow this is not what I was gone expect when I started to read this book, this is the first book that I rad from this author, and Holy Hell I love it, this book suck me in from the first line to the last one.

This story is full of mysteries, drama, some hot sex scene, and some romance, this book had me guessing through the entire book, I kept asking my self who is it, how are they related but you get to find all that out and Woow you will be surprise, I love it how their Is a lot of twist, the characters was well written and developed, love the characters, this book had me in a emotional roller coaster and I love every single minute of it.

I have to say their where some part that I laugh, cried, and got mad at the characters but that's cause I really got into the book and was feeling what they where feeling and love it.

The story beginning with Harley preparing diner for her fiancé Jackson, she was counting the minutes into he walk inside the house, once they where eating he started to fell funny of coursed that's cause Harley had drug his food for she could make her escape and leave the abuse relationship that they have, once she is finally out she end up in a small town that's when she bump into Nolan the owner of a Pub and meet the bartender Aggie.

On her second day in town Harley manage to get a job and a cheap place to leave, she started to work for Nola, and started to get to know Aggie and they became good friends, but when she went back to her apartment she kept having trouble sleeping having nightmares dreaming and seen things that she couldn't think they where possible.

I really enjoy reading this book, I hope that you get to enjoy it and love it as much as I did.

Thank You Author J.A. Howell for introducing me to this great characters and this amazing book, cant wait to read more of your books and the rest of this series.

Wow! That was my reaction when I finished the book. It’s simply awesome. The writing style is great and I really enjoyed it a lot. Here we got only Harley’s POV who is the main lead and we got to share her experiences and the journey that she made through rough paths filled with dangers. I loved the detailed descriptions that the author provided here and the actions scenes are swoon worthy, don’t mind my language because I love action. Coming to the main interest of this book is the haunted flat!!! Yeah, you heard me right! Harley shifts to flat no. 333 (spooky number) after she escapes from the clutches of her evil fiancé (well when I say evil, I mean it literally but I won’t give up any more spoilers because he is one of the main character who will give this story a shocking turn) and guess what that flat is haunted by its previous owner Brody Walsh who attempted suicide in the flat’s bathroom (but the truth is something else and you’re going to get knocked down by the revelation). I felt that the haunting scenes were a bit sketchy and there are just very few of them and I wanted much more but that’s okay.
The characterization is great and I loved Nolan’s character. His mood swings made him suspicious and for the most part of the story I thought that he is the villain but …. Well, I won’t tell you!!! Angus is snarky and humorous and Aggie is also cool and nonchalant but there are some secrets about her personality that are going to come up later in the story.
Overall I loved this book because it has mystery, action, romance, secrets, ghosts, haunting and the best part is the last scene and just when I thought that the story is over, the author stunned me with the last punch, it was really heart-stopping. A must read for ya all and I would recommend it to the lovely readers but just a warning – this is only suitable for adult readers ( 18+) because of some explicit scenes that are not suitable for underage readers.

Harley deals with alot of bad stuff at the start of this book, and as she reaches her snapping point, she drugs her fiance and runs. She has no idea where she heading, she wants to disappear. She jumps on a bus and leaves everything behind.
The bus arrives at Midtown, where Harley gets off and finds herself a hotel. She intends to find herself a job and somewhere to live. after checking into the hotel and freshening up, she asks at reception where she can grab something to eat and drink. The hotel receptionist gives her directions to a pub called Finleys in town.
And so begins a series of events which cause Harley to believe in something she’s never believed in before.
This book follows Harley and her journey from the life of hell; with her now ex-fiance; to a life with a new beginning and new friends; which she hopes will be much happier.
This book captured my attention from the start and held it until the very end. I was so glad that I had book 2 to continue with; as book 1 left me wanting more.
The book is well paced, very engaging and riveting. Characters have flaws which makes them more realistic. I became attached to characters; especially Harley and Nolan.
There is an underlying story surrounding Brody which will become clear in book 2, however that said; JA Howell gives snippets of information surrounding Brody that leave you intrigued but not confused.
The book is full of suspense, creepiness and romance too. it will make you laugh out loud as well as feel like crying too.

First, let me start out by telling you what I look for in a 5 star read. I need a book that takes me to that other place where you forget you are reading, and you get so caught up in the story that you see it in pictures and no one around you can get your attention because you are so engrossed in a story. Kind of like what happens to you in a movie theater when you are in to the movie.
I really liked the spooky factor in this book. But it also has romance and suspense to boot. The story opens with Harley trying to kill her fiancee. After one to many beatings, she poisons him, but just enough so she can escape. She boards a bus and gets off in Midtown. She has no idea how she is going to find an apartment and a job, and as she mopes around, she wanders in front of a pub. Just then, a drunk is thrown out the door and right into her. The owner tells her to come in and have a pint for free. There, she talks with Aggie, your typical red headed Irish gal. She gets Harley a job there by sweet talking Nolan, the owner, into hiring her. Now Harley has to find somewhere to live and she sees a cheap apartment and goes to check it out. It is perfect, except a guy named Brody died there. She does not care, having grown up with a mom who dabbled in voodoo. Soon she learns some unusual things about her ghost. And then the story really gets interesting. I don't want to give any more away, because it really is a great read, you should check it out for yourself! I know I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.

*Gift from the author for an honest review*

This is a different kind of book and one that I normally don't read however the author had me hooked and I continued reading and love the story!

Harley escapes and makes it to Midtown - she finally had the courage to leave her abusive fiancée and she finds an apartment that's cheap with a job as well. Harley believes she will be able to move on and start a new life. She was wrong - things started happening in her apartment and she finds out that the guy that lived there before her killed himself. Did he really?

Nolan owns the bar that Harley works at and he feels very protective over her. He doesn't know her or her past as to why she moved to Midtown. Nolan will do what he can to protect her until she starts asking questions about the apartment his best friend lived in.

Harley becomes friends with Aggie who is the bartender/waitress at the bar as well and she learns that Aggie knows more to the story then she is telling. Aggie helps Harley the best she can.

Harley learns more each day and finally "meets" Brody (the best friend) and she is trying to figure out exactly what happened to Brody. Brody warns her that she will be next. Harley knows she has to figure out exactly what happened before she is next, she also needs help however her past catches up.

This book for me was really good and I would continue the rest of the series. Thanks to the author for getting me into books like this. I will continue to read more books from the author as I haven't read a book yet that I didn't like. Great job to the author.

When I first started this, I was afraid it was going to come across as a Lifetime made-for-TV train wreck with a too-stupid-to-live heroine, the perfect hero, and the dastardly villain. Couldn't be further from the truth. The story was engaging and well-paced. I had trouble putting it down.

Harley's character was fresh, likable, and sympathetic. I wanted to eat Nolan up with a spoon. Aggie and Angus were precious, as was little Remy. I found them to be well-rounded, with flaws and quirks that made them real.

The ghost angle with Brody was an interesting touch, but I would have enjoyed a little more interaction between his character and Harley. I feel it would have been a bit more mysterious with more cryptic contact.

As for the "whodunit" aspect of the story, I did have it figured out about halfway in. For me, that's not a bad thing, as I spend the rest of the book trying to figure out "how" instead of "who". And the "how" is my reason for four stars instead of five. I feel like it was a little too neat, and not all of my questions were answered. However, I am overly picky when it comes to thrillers.

That being said, I enjoyed this book tremendously. It was an overall great and satisfying read. I became attached to the cast of characters quickly and to Midtown in general. I will definitely be picking up the next installment of this series, and I will be putting J.A. Howell on my must-read author list.

Just when I was beginning to get bored with reading, due to several weeks of books that I did not enjoy this pulled me back in. When I realized I was growing bored with reading, I felt like this would be the author to change that and WOW was I right!! I started this when I was supposed to be going to bed 'soon', hours later I'd moved onto Book 2 in this series as I now have a new addiction. I'm now sleep deprived but it's totally worth it.

Completely unable to put this book down I was addicted to the small town lifestyle, the lovable characters, the drama ... this book has it all by the way. A few different kinds of drama, mystery, murder, a hint of romance, a bit of steamy, even some paranormal activity. I'll never be able to say enough for this book or do it justice. It is truly the best book I've read in awhile and one of the best books I've ever read.

Harley is a strong woman - so young and really doesn't put up with much. It may seem that way at first but ... well... she doesn't - you'll see what I mean when you read this. She falls into a new group of friends when she starts over and they too are all brilliantly designed. I've been down sick and if only I'd discovered this series sooner, I bet I wouldn't even have noticed feeling crappy.

Don't let the hot chocolate spiked with irish cream fool you. Nor the steamy romance that will melt snow once it starts going. OH! and the little orange kitten? Nope... don't let that fool you either. As soon as you do, WHAM, the author smacks you with a 2x4 and you are panting at the thrills this book will give you.

Harley Martin is running for her life. Literally. Hoping off the bus she hopes has stopped in the least likely place to look for her in, she takes her first deep breath in a long while. That might be because her ribs aren't broken.

Nolan wasn't looking for someone new in his life, but the night Harley runs into him, again literally, he knows there is just something about her.

Add in a fiery red head, a salty baker, and an obnoxious ghost trying to get a message out, well, you've got the makings of a story that won't soon let you go.

I got this free through Amazon and I am super glad I did not pay for it! It started out okay until you realized the dialect Scottish/Irish was inconsistent and at points ridiculous. Also the more you read the harder all the errors are to overlook. The concept was good: girl escapes abusive relationship and winds up in a haunted apartment... But then you add the abusive ex showing up predictably at the end, the battle ready Irish/Scottsman eager to defend this stranger's honor because he has the hots for her, and the cheese factor has taken over. The "heroine" takes a lot of beatings, randomly has been packing heat the whole time? The new friend girl all of the sudden is a bad A sharp shooter? The characterization just does not gel! And the love interest got old so fast! Also the chapter titles were, like most of the story, redundant. If the title says it all why am I reading this?

This was probably a 4.5 star read for me. I'm going to round this up to a 5 star since the author was gracious enough to offer this as a freebie. This easily would have been a solid 5 star read for me had it not been so farfetched (I don't want to throw in spoilers so I'm not going elaborate, it just came down to knowing the same people across the US, not likely). That being said, however, it was still a wonderful read. It was exciting and impossible to put down! One of the best freebies I've read in a long time. I will be looking for more of this writers work. Another bonus was that this was a complete story, beginning - middle - end; none of the cliffhanger BS so many writers have turned to. That alone is much appreciated.

Great read about a girl named Harley who finally decides to stand up for herself after being in an abusive relationship. Harley packs up and moves away to a random new city. We watch her get on her feet and then chaos breaks loose. Great story line that was packed with action, adventure, romance, ghosts and second chances. I enjoyed all of the characters, normally the female plays the victim and never stands up for herself. However Harley truly does take control of her own life. I loved Nolan and is sexy accent, however it did take me a while to get used to reading his lines. I wanted a few more details at the end, it came to an ending quickly and we are left with a few lingering questions. Overall great read, can't wait for more from this author.

Uhhhh...where to begin? I guess I'll start with the good, the story is okay. That's about it. The book drags on far too long, and to top it off the ending lacks clarity. So instead of dragging out the beginning and middle and novel, more time should have been put into adequately ending the book. I hate it when shit doesn't make sense at the end! It's quite annoying. If the book had ended with proper explanations, maybe I wouldn't have hated this book.

I was hooked from the first few pages. It doesn't happen often but it did with Harley's story. Her beginning was extremely hard to read but once you get past that there's lots of action. I won't reveal everything Harley and her new friends have to ordeal and what's revealed. But I will say there's a lot of eating in this book and it was tough at the onset to deal with the dialogue written phonetically for the Scottish/Irish characters.

I love me some Irish men!!

This storyline was pretty interesting once you've seen the whole picture, but the mystery and suspense was awesome page by page. I loved the characters, the red hair, the Scottish and Irish descendants, the love and giddy, blossoming romance. The drama! And the horror T_T

Definitely recommend!!!

My Review Of The Possess

Even though there is a love story in the sub plot of this tale, there is so much drama and suspense that I did not mind the relationship angle. I especially enjoyed the paranormal aspect of this tale. The characters were well developed and I really liked and cared about what happened to them. I would reread this book again.
