"Barnhemmet", written (in Swedish) by Cecilia Lidbeck, is a book that takes place in an orphanage in Sweden. The book is about three children who live there and want to escape. Later on, children go missing and the protagonists try to find out where they went.

Recommended by a friend, I tried reading this book last year but did not finish it because the book did not grab my attention. I think this was because the beginning was a little slow, and nothing happened that made me want to keep reading. I tried re-reading it during the holiday, and actually really enjoyed it. Lidbeck writes books for kids of all ages. This book is one of her most famous books. What I love about this book is that the author always adds suspense at the end of each chapter, making you have to continue reading. This book reminds me a lot of the Swedish series called “Glasbarnen” by Kristina Ohlsson. Those books are also about three children solving mysteries. A lot of the scenes in this book remind me of my grandma's house. Firstly, my grandma's house has a forest near by, just like the books setting. Secondly, both houses are located next to a lake, reminding me of a lot of the scenes in the book, next to the lake. Thirdly, my grandma's house is very big, and a little old-fashioned. My grandma’s walls have pictures of the family living there before, during the 18th century. I can almost taste the food in the book since I relate the food a lot to my grandma's cooking (a good taste).

I would recommend this book to people of ages 8-12 as I think that this was a little too easy for me. This book is perfect for people who don’t enjoy reading since this book will give them an example of a great book, hopefully making them continue reading. I enjoyed this very much since I enjoy reading mysteries a lot. The reading level would fit for ages under 8 but the content isn't appropriate for their age, as it can get scary sometimes. I suggest that the author continues these books, and makes a series, since the ending is a great part to start a new book. I also believe that the characters in the book aren’t memorable, if the author were to make the characteristics of the protagonists more interesting the book would have been even stronger.
Overall, this book is a very likeable book, but it takes a few chapters until you get to the juicy part of the story.

Lagom spännande. Väntade mig en spökhistoria men fick istället onda barnhemsföreståndare och modiga barn.
