No matter how you try to fight it—destiny has a mind of its own!

Since foreseeing the imminent death of her parents six years earlier, Chloe has lived a simple, not-so-charmed-life away from her remaining Wiccan family.

Zero magic.

No close friendships.

While struggling to bench-press more guilt than any nineteen-year-old ever should.

But fate intervenes and forces Chloe to return home. As if being an in-the-closet-Seer wasn’t bad enough, now she has to spend summer break with the snarky sister who hates her—and the magical birthright she was hell-bent on denying for all eternity.

Luckily, meeting Mr. Perfect takes the edge off her endless family drama. Hunter’s twenty-five, sometimes old-fashioned in a Jane Austen hero sort of way, and more delicious than molten-lava cake. But the more she tries to hide her family’s magical secrets from this ever-present stranger, the more quickly she realizes he’s hiding a few doozies of his own.

Will the lies and betrayal destroy their relationship before it really begins? Or will learning of their tethered future create an unbreakable bond neither can deny? Either way, their hearts will be forever entwined by destiny.

Brandi lives in central Pennsylvania with her fur-ball cats (Onyx and Klepto), where she spends most of her time attached to her laptops, reading books, appeasing her sweet tooth, and watching TV for motivation.

Growing up in a haunted house inspired Brandi’s fascination with the paranormal, so it only made sense that she’d write Urban Fantasy books for both teens and adults.

Brandi hasn’t been lucky enough to meet her soul mate (yet), so she writes paranormal tales of those who have. Her stories combine magical elements with real-life issues, strong female characters, semi-old fashioned men and family values, woven together and told from an organic, first-person perspective.

In addition to the BirthRight Novels, she also has four additional adventures she’ll be writing over the next few years, so stay-tuned.

First of all, I would like to thank Brandi for gifting me a copy in return for an honest review. I also would like to say how much I love the cover.

So, we start off with Chloe, a nineteen year old girl. Going home to New York with her aunt Morgan, back to her family because her grandpa is seriously ill with a brain tumor. She has more past baggage than Louis Vitton, and she is dreading facing the sister she ran away from six years earlier.

At the airport she locks eyes with the most handsome man, certain she knows him, but cannot place how. The story starts out really good. I liked Chloe from the get go, and Brandi's easy style of writing had me settling in for what I hoped was a great book.

Chloe's family are Wiccan, and while she ran from her heritage after her mother and father died, she still has visions (She is a Seer). Aunt Morgan is also hiding a secret. When Sam (grandpa), goes into hospital for surgery to remove the brain tumor she runs back into the mystery man from the airport. It turns out he is Hunter, a fireman who is visiting a fallen co-worker.

This is where the story, in my opinion started to wane a little. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the flow of it. What niggled underneath, given the serious nature of brain tumors and the potential not to survive, it felt too buoyant. All of the characters were way too 'happy' even her Grams.

What I would've liked to see was a little more depth and range of emotions. The strained relationship Chloe had with her sister Dru, was many times glossed over. Still, for a younger audience it bubbled. So the story unfolded, it was not looking good for grandpa and he was pronounced brain dead, they were bringing him home to say their good byes, and in the meantime Chloe's relationship with Hunter was somewhat blossoming (though she wasn't fully opening up to him)

This might have something to do with her mother and father's relationship, that had floundered when he found out about her Wiccan abilities. Also, her aunt Morgan's terrible past, she had broken up with the love of her life, Michael Russo and hid the fact she'd had his twin babies. Unknown to him, because she too ran away believing he didn't love her.

There were times I was a little confused, there were elements introduced into the story that seemed too convenient than actually being part of the story. Like Chloe was suddenly a twin, and the twin had died. She had inherited her abilities and now she has another power.

One night was going to change everything, Michael Russo's dad Peter had come to the house. He wanted to apologize for meddling in Michael and Morgan's life many years earlier, and he witnessed something so terrible he was going to take matters into his own hands.

Enter another vision for Chloe, one of Peter Russo talking to an FBI agent, only the FBI agent was someone Chloe knew, some one she was beginning to trust. Everything from that point turned on it's head. It wasn't there was anything bad about the story, nor was it badly written, but what I struggled with was the 'perfect' way everyone dealt with every situation.

There was double crossing, lying, cheating, bad blood going on, and all the characters were happy and cheerful in their responses. I wanted hair pulling, spells and a little bit of hoo doo witchcraft going down. A little bit of bitch slapping, face punching would've been nice.

It was a sweet story, a little too Charmed TV for me (and don't get me wrong, I love Charmed and watch the re-runs) but I wanted more. If you like easy flow, easy to read characters that can peacefully solve all bad situations you will LOVE this. I was hoping for more of Supernatural's blood and gore than the Halliwell's prep.

At A Glance
The concept was good but the dialogue was corny and the plot was boring.

The Good
I really was drawn in by the blurb. The concept just sounded fun and magical. And the magic part was pretty rockin'. The powers these people had in this book was badass. I almost felt let down to be human and not some magical witch by the end of the book.

Even when it was cheesy, the family dynamic in Tethered was heart-warming. I think anyone would feel lucky to have a family this close-nit and supportive.

The Bad
Tethered lost me as the dialogue and characters got cheesier and cheesier. I felt like I was watching an ABC family special. It was so corny and unrealistic. Everything was resolved with a group laugh. Seriously! No joke. Every single problem in this book was talked through and then everyone would laugh at how silly they were to begin with.

The plot and story were just boring. Nothing happened. There was a hint of future adventures but this book was just a family getting together for a dying grandpa. And with a little backstory drama thrown in. That's it. Spoilery: And the ending was sooooo convenient. Literally, the bad person who caused trouble finally sees the error of his ways in a matter of minutes and all is forgiven. Ugh, gag me!

I was rolling my eyes almost every page. I just couldn't stand the syrupy sweet stupidity of it all.

The Snuggly
Chloe was 19 and Hunter was 25 but they acted so much younger. I felt like I was reading a young adult book when it came to the romance, which isn't a bad thing but just not what I expected from adult characters. And Chloe's relationship issues were just stupid. There was NO reason for them. There is no sex scenes, just kissing and touching.

Final Thoughts
I hate talking bad about a book but I can't help what I don't like. This was so not for me. I can't even think of anyone I would recommend this book to. If not for some cool witchy magic this would have been a one starer. Not recommended.

Quotes
I'm twirling around the room with a tall dance partner. As we spin in circles, I see the same faces over and over--like I'm riding a merry-go-round.

They smile with the warmth of a friend, but the way it chills my blood frightens me.

"But if you should happen to change your mind about stalking me, please just give me a heads up first. I'd be more than happy to provide you with my itinerary. I know how daunting your schedule must be, so I wouldn't want to subject you to any difficulties which might further endanger your well being." I tilt my head, batting my baby blues for affect. "If you like, I could even leave a ladder outside my window...or binoculars in the tree across the street. You know...just in case."

Check out this TV interview I did, where I talked about The BirthRight Series. :)

INTERVIEW AND ARTICLE: http://www.wearecentralpa.com/story/d...

 photo e647910e-99de-41df-98be-9494bcbefa0b_zpsdc2d628b.jpg

I’m so excited for you to start this magical journey through The BirthRight Series, which is a story so close to my heart. Unfortunately, I was one of the unlucky ones who didn’t have a happy home-life growing up, so I wanted to create the type of family I always dreamed of having. I dare you to NOT want to be a member of the Moon family by the end of book 1.

What else makes this series so special to me? Well how about the dreamy “nice guy” Chloe falls in love with—and the fact that even though they’re powerful witches—they’re just like you and me (well, minus the paranormal stuff). They’re normal, down-to-earth people, who just happen to have been born with these kick-ass magical abilities. And let’s not forget they’re also part of an ancient Prophecy. Book 1 involves more “dabbling” with their powers, but as the series progresses, they’ll use their magic more and more. In fact, by book 3, you’ll often feel like you’re in the middle of cataclysmic supernatural events you’d only see in the movies. But when there’s a Prophecy involved, there’s gotta be a big BOOM, right?

TETHERED is simply a sweet, feel-good read about first love, self-acceptance, forgiveness and family loyalty. My characters have a lot to overcome, but they prove that by supporting those you love, you can overcome anything together. Just as it should be in real-life. So if you’re looking for a fresh and breezy fast-read, told from an organic, first-person POV that actually sounds like a true nineteen-year-old is telling the story, then this just might be the series for you. It’s not a literary masterpiece that will change your life, but it WILL make you feel just about every human emotion possible by the end. And it just might cause you to start fantasizing about sweet guys—and forget those often-cruel-bad-boys ever existed! :)

This review and many others can be found on my blog - Feed Your Fiction Addiction

The first line of the synopsis of Tethered actually sums it up pretty nicely. "Sweet" describes the book pretty darn well and I often found myself thinking of the TV show Charmed as I read it. Chloe is older than many YA heroines (at 19), but the tone of the book definitely puts it squarely in the YA category.

The negatives:

A little too sweet sometimes.
The conflicts in this book were all tied up with a nice pretty bow and sometimes accompanied by slightly sappy dialogue. It's not that I wanted everyone to stay miserable, but I did think that sometimes everything worked out just a little too easily and a little too perfectly. I like to work a little harder for my happily ever afters.

What I loved:

Family dynamics.
Despite what the synopsis of this book says, this book didn't really feel to me like it was all about the romance. I actually think that Chloe's family took center stage just as much as (if not more than) her relationship with Hunter. The book really focuses on Chloe's grandfather being in a coma and how the family has to come together because of it. Because the family has been split up since Chloe's parents' deaths, the family dynamics are interesting - Chloe loves her little brother to death (even though she hasn't seen him in person in many years), but she has a very strained relationship with her sister, who never forgave her for leaving. Meanwhile, Chloe's aunt is dealing with the fact that her adult twins' father never knew that he had sons - she's been gone for over twenty years, but coming back means she has to face him and that he will have to learn the truth. I loved the family dynamics and the pull that Chloe feels toward her family! (IF only the conflicts weren't solved quite so easily!)

Hunter.
I was definitely a fan of Hunter. It was obvious that something more was going on with him than he let on, but I didn't guess the actual final revelations about him - I liked being surprised! Hunter and Chloe's relationship was sweet - there was definitely an instant attraction between them, but the relationship was formed throughout the book (they didn't jump right in) so it didn't feel too terribly much like insta-love.

The magic.
Like I said, this book reminded me a lot of Charmed - mentions of The Book of Shadows always bring back fond memories of one of my favorite shows from the early 2000's. I enjoyed the magical scenes in this book and loved that Chloe's powers developed as the book went on. The introduction of the prophecy (toward the end of the book) definitely has me intrigued and I'm eager to find out what happens next!

Overall, I'd say that Tethered is a great YA read. Fans of paranormal who aren't looking for anything too edgy will love this one! I give it 3.5/5 stars.

Action-packed, dramatic, and full of magic, Tethered is a surprisingly unique novel of magic and witches. Definitely an author to watch, Brandi Leigh Hall crafts a novel of epic proportions.

The plot of this novel is surprisingly unique and original. Magical witches are not usually my favorite kinds of fantasy by far, and there hasn't been many books about witches that I have enjoyed since the age of Harry Potter. This novel has changed both of these statements, however. This plot is quite an attention grabber. It's full of depth, dramatic family ties and relationships, and an enriching plot full of plot twists and interesting characters. This all makes for a creative novel that constantly leaves you wanting more. Shrouded in mystery and magic, Tethered is a novel with a perfect amount if romance, drama, and fantasy, and a series sure to captivate readers.

The characters were terrific. Chloe is a girl full of surprises and humor. In the beginning, Chloe constantly finds the good in every situation and person and never let's a moment to without making a joke. Although, you do see a lot of character development going on here as she slowly transforms into a more serious person by the end of the novel. She matures and grows into her destiny 100%. Hunter was also very interesting. He was loyal, brave, and a total romantic. I grew very fond of his character over time. Every character in this novel, lead or supporting, plays a huge part in the prophecy. Every character is crucial to the plot and each one is unique.

The writing in this novel is also quite nice. Hall describes a complicated world in very descriptive yet simple means, and writes a story that is easy to follow and even easier to get lost in. Her writing is very clean cut and simple, full of nicely timed humor and drama. Although the dialogue sometimes comes off as fake and a little more than scripted, it doesn't all the time. Some of the character's lengthy responses sound very fake and definitely not the way a regular person would respond. However, it isn't majorly noticeable, and didn't really affect the reading experience for me. Overall, I was rather pleased.

Overall, Tethered is a uniquely magical book that is sure to please readers. It's interesting, nicely written, and full of great plot twists and drama. A very nice read.

Normally I’m not a big fan of the Paranormal books, this however I saw recommended by a few people and thought, why not?? It was free so I wasn’t losing anything.
As I turned out, I absolutely loved it. It kept me reading throughout. In fact as soon as I finished it I downloaded book 2..
It is about 22 year old Chloe who lost her parents years before and decided to move in with her aunt instead of staying with her grandparents, brother and sister.
When her granddad becomes ill she flys back home along with her aunt (her mothers twin sister) to be there for her family.
She believes that magic is the reason her parents are dead and has refused to use her magic since. When she moves back home, she finds it much harder to control her visions so decides eventually to embrace them. They show her things that are going to happen and she hopes she can change things along the way.
Whilst waiting for news of her granddad she meets the lovely Hunter, she tries to keep her secrets from him but doesn’t realise hes hiding some major ones himself.
After decades of secrets, lies and misunderstandings can everything be made right??
Maddie and Hunter? Maddie and her sister? The aunt and her ex? The dying grandfather?
A truly amazing read!!

I recently had the opportunity to meet the author, Brandi, who happens to be from my home town. She described this book as "sweet". And that is a great word for it. It is not incredibly deep or thought-provoking. It is a quick, fun read. There is a love story, but it is a very newly developing relationship. It is sweet. :)
I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. My one big complaint (if you want to call it that) is the way the family acted/reacted when the grandfather was in the hospital, in a coma, after surgery to remove a brain tumor. I know everyone deals with grief and stress differently, but they didn't seem to be upset or worried enough. Maybe that's just my overly emotional self talking, but I imagine my family would have been way more upset in that situation.

Overall, I really liked Tethered. I am looking forward to reading other books in this series to find out what happens with Chloe's visions and I am hoping to learn more about each member of the family and their individual magical abilities.

1.5 stars. When I first started this book I went into it without reading any ratings or reviews. I neither had high expectations or low ones. With that being said I didn't really enjoy this one mostly because everyone's feeling and emotions just didn't seem real. All problems or quarrel's were easily dismissed because everyone and I mean everyone is so nice and understanding and forgiving throughout the whole book. It just didn't seem believable to me. Also my biggest dislike was the MC internal monologue, I swear it just seemed never ending with somethings repeated several times throughout the story making it really hard to finish at all (But I did read the whole thing mostly to rate it fairly and also to see if it would get any better, sadly it didn't). I honestly think the only thing I did enjoy were the families abilities/gifts and how they were unique. So since I struggled through this one and did not like most of the book I wont be reading the other books in this series.

This was my kind of book. I'm just sorry it took me so long to read it. Chloe's character appeals to me. The way she handles herself and her personality is one that I love. Her life has not been an easy one and now she's forced to accept the things she wanted to forget. I would have loved a little more drama involving spells, vicious family members and deep dark secrets that turned the family in to an uproar but that's just me. Maybe in the next book Chloe will get a little nasty!

Regardless it's a great story that was well thought out and I enjoyed the way the author developed her characters. They were well thought out with amazing follow through. I can appreciate a supernatural story with a paranormal love twist in the middle to give it some spice. Well done B. L. Hall and I cannot wait for book two. Yes, I would highly recommend this book.

I just finished reading A Birthright Novel- Tethered by Brandi Leigh Hall. It was a magical journey; a pure enjoyment to read. The ending was one of the best ever. I am so ready for the next book. I love the rich characters, especially Hunter. Hunter is very easy to fall in love with. I would rank this up there with some of my favorite authors: King, Koontz, James Rollins, Charlaine Harris, Jan Karon, Heather Graham, Preston and Childs. She will be a best-selling author in the very near future. This could be a major motion picture comparable to the Twilight Saga and True Blood. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who loves a great piece of fiction.

I can honestly say, I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read Tempted, Book 2. I'm glad I won this on GoodReads, otherwise I would of never known about it. It is also one of those books that you don't want to put down, you want to stay up till 3am reading as much as possible. You are sucked into Chole's life from the first pages. Not only is it about her being a Witch but its also about Hunter, an amazing man that just happens to come into her life, you will learn later on in the book that he has several secrets of his own. I cannot wait to read more from Brandi, she is an amazing author. I will be recommending this book to all of my 'reader' friends.

Tethered was AH-MAZING. I am so in love with the cover, and I'm even further in love with Hunter AND Dru. We're all pretty much married now. Polygamy is okay in some cultures, right?
The tension between Chloe and Dhelia at the beginning was driving me crazy until Dhelia invited Hunter to the party, and I found out she was dating a guido. I literally almost died. I went from hating her to loving her faster than I thought possible.
I was then completely crushed when I thought Hunter was using Chloe. THANKS A LOT. But then they made up and I was like 'aw.' c:
They're so adorable it hurts.

The second BirthRight novel needs to come soon, or my head may or may not implode.

I really enjoyed this ya paranormal. The love of family is so strong, the love story so sweet, and the ending so powerful. Will definitely read more from this author.

Read first from 01/03/2014 - 01/04/2014
Read a second time from 04/18/2014 - 04/20/2014

I enjoyed it the second time around, too. The book focuses on Chloe and her family. They're all witches. Throw in Hunter Payne, the Urban Adonis, and some crazy neighbors, and you've got yourself a pretty great story.

There are mysteries to be solved, betrayals to be forgiven, and romance to bloom.

I'm certainly looking forward to reading TEMPTED, book 2.

I was lucky enough to be a beta reader for the author.

I loved the characters, the family dynamics, and the way they all work together to solve problems. The voice of the main character is so easy to get into, and the authors style of writing is refreshing and flows so easily. And the humor on top of it just makes this book such an enjoyable read.

Even though it's a sweet story with no sex an minimal swearing, the storyline and plot twists are are strong enough to even keep adults guessing.

I would recommend this book to any age who enjoys paranormal stories, with a love story sprinkled in.

I loved this book! You can't help but fall in love, not only with Chloe Bishop, but with the entire Bishop clan.

From the very beginning, you were drawn into the story. Chloe is a very appealing character and she does a wonderful job of narrating the story.

I enjoyed watching Chloe's relationship with her family as they learned to heal and forgive. And the beginning of the relationship between Chloe and Hunter was beautiful to witness.

The story was sweet and endearing and it reminded me of those TV families that you wish you could be a part of.

Wow is all I can say! What an accomplished first-book by author Brandi Hall. This has got to be one of the most rivoting books I've read for some time. The colorful characters are richly stacked and well-defined. The story line is one that will be a delightful surprise to the reader; I won't give the plot away, but can tell you that its full of twists and turns!!! Excellent book, definitely worth reading, it's unique & special take on witchcraft was especially entertaining. I love the lead, she was quite the character & very much a kind of protagonist that anyone would like, I also really loved her love interest, he was the most surprising part.

Tethered by Brandi Leigh Hall definitely is a book that should be read if one needs a change from the typical witch book, I loved it despite the fact that I don't at all like witchy books so there.

Great plot and story line, different twist on magic! I liked how the family came together when they did. Defiantly a page turner and leaves you wanting more!!!

I really enjoyed this book. It has a little bit of everything family, supernatural and love. Tethered was a good read.
