I am a REALTOR®, wife, mom of three, former Air Force brat, and a hippie at heart. I love writing, reading, workin' out, baking, being in bodies of water, not being cold, coffee with too much reamer, frozen yogurt, photography, sushi, breakfast burritos, juicing, lip balm, music, all things rebellious, and LOVE!!!
I was given a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute story. It kind of was all over the place at times, but I enjoyed the characters personalities.
Mercy is written in a conversational way...that's the best word I can come up with at the moment. Pretty much, the voice inside Eden' s head bled onto the paper... sorry, my analogies suck tonight! I enjoy that writing style every now and then if it's done "correctly". Not saying there is a right or wrong method, just that sometimes it lacks creativity to me. I felt like I was reading casual emails, not well thought out words. Just kind of....meh..... I was half expecting to see a few lol' s or emoticons. (I didn't, thankfully)
As for the story- it was cute. Eden is in the midst of a divorce from her douche of a husband, better known as "Dick". She also recently lost her father which just makes her all the more protective of her heart. She's living in her best friend's guest house for the time being and pretty much is just trying to get on her feet again. Said best friend has a brother, a very handsome and protective brother. I'm sure you can see where this goes?
So, that's the jist of it. It was entertaining and kept my interest, but lacked in substance for me.
So Eden is going through a divorce and decides she needs to get some. Enter in Dom, her bff's brother and the man that introduced her to her soon to be ex. Turns out he been carry a torch for her for years. But Dom is a player and Eden can't take all his flirting seriously. I think what really makes this story work is that I can see all this really happening. Plus all of Edens one liners kept me cracking up. Its a quick read, taking me less than a day. It's worth the time if you don't mind all the sexual references but they just add to the humor. In my perfect world Dom would be my bf and Eden my bff.
I received this edition from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.
Once you get going with these characters you can't stop. I so want a Dominic, what woman wouldn't? The characters are flawed and loveable and I just love the interaction between the BFFs. I started and finished the book in one sitting falling in love with the relatable characters that you can't help but root for.
Eden is 22 years old and has recently lost her father. She’s also going through a messy divorce with Richard, aka Dick. They’ve been married for 3 years, but Eden recently discovered Dick was being unfaithful. For the past month, Eden has been staying in her best friend Aly’s guest house as she saves money to get back on her feet. Eden and Aly work side-by-side at the same beauty salon, and they’ve been close ever since they met while earning their cosmetology degrees at the Las Vegas School of Beauty. Aly’s husband, Sloane, and her older brother, Dominic, work with Dick at Vegas Builds.
Eden can’t help but be attracted to Dom even though she is pretty sure he’s a big player. Soon she finds out that Dom’s feelings for her run much deeper than friendship, but Eden’s not sure if she’s quite ready to cross that friendship line into something more. She’s still nursing a broken heart and doesn’t want to get hurt again.
I’ve always enjoyed reading stories about people who were friends first before they fell in love. And Dom was definitely a swoonworthy love interest -- he was hardworking, loyal, protective, funny, cheesy at times...and of course, hot!
Mercy was a quick and easy read, but the conversational writing style took a little getting used to. It was very informal, almost like sitting down to have coffee or a cocktail with a friend and discussing the ups and downs of her love life. There were a few flashbacks which provided a peek into how Dom and Eden’s friendship and attraction grew over the years, and I wish there were more of these. A couple of times the point of view abruptly switched to Dom’s, and that was a bit jarring. Maybe if there had been more chapters included from his point of view it would have been a smoother transition for the reader. At times I felt annoyed with Eden’s immaturity, but then again, 22 is still pretty young and the characters’ actions seemed realistic for someone that age.
Despite these small issues, I found Mercy to be an entertaining read and would recommend it to fans of new adult romance.
i received ARC for my honest opinion, i think this story had a great flow to it. you have Eden who is married and thinking that it was happy ever after, when one day she comes home to find that her marriage was all fake. her husband had been cheating on her. she moves in with her best friend and decides that its time to get her feet wet again, with out all the strings. her best friends brother Dom has always had a slight crush on her and Eden never knew. until things between them start to heat up. Eden never would have given the playboy Dom a chance or figured he would want a relationship. but after her first night on the town she finds herself locking lips with him. she feels sparks that she never even felt with her husband, she knows then that it may be a mistake but is worth the shot. but Dom doesn't want to risk losing the friendship they share. i have to say that the flow of the story was very good at times you want to just jump through the pages and shake Eden and have her see all the clues that we do. but that is what makes the story so real because we all have that one girlfriend that will not see or listen to anything that is right in front of them. you will not be disappointed.
Eden was a fun character to read. Her personality type is not the typical female lead I relate to, but her comical inner voice was entertaining. Dom was a sweetie, and I liked all the side characters. The recovering from divorce and 'getting back into the dating saddle' themes were well done and relatable.
The book, however, seriously needs an editor. Commas are sorely lacking - including before names... in every occasion where they should be used. There are some Word to Kindle conversion errors (the texted smiley face, for example, appears as a letter 'j') There are places where there are "author notes" left in the text (ex: chp 12 says "Eden has a drink date with Evan" and then switched back to Eden's 1st person perspective) Though, this may be due to the strange way the author chose to flip to Dom's perspective in the previous chapter after being completely in Eden's voice for all 10 preceding chapters.
I don't normally hark on editing, but in this case, it distracted from the enjoyment of the story.
Mercy was a quick read for me. This book was light and enjoyable which was what I was looking for. I loved the idea behind the story line and how cleverly written the book's structure was done.
Eden, our main girl, is in the middle of a divorce and living at her best friend Aly's house. Aly was a hysterical character and the scenes between the two of them were great! Dom, our main man, well let's just say he was a hottie! He liked his fair share of girls but for a reason... later revealed!
The writing that was done for the dialogue did throw me a bit at first. Dingee's writing style overall took a few chapters to get used to. Once, I did get accustomed to it, it was very enjoyable.
If you are looking for a book with sarcasm and wit wrapped around the story line then this book is for you.
I found this to be a quick, easy, fun read. Although Eden is going through a divorce, the author does a great job making this light and flirty between a couple (centering on a woman looking to get laid..ha!) who ends up finding love.
It took me a bit to get into the dialogue. It didn't flow as easy for me. I almost felt like I was listening to Eden talking out loud to herself and I had a difficult time connecting. Once I got into the story a bit farther, It didn't bother me. Both characters were kind of goofy, but likable.
If you are looking for something light and fun that you don't have to put deep thought into, give Mercy a try.
I was given an ARC for an honest review. I likes this book, the characters were funny and I liked how Eden had a sarcastic thought after most sentences! The only thing I wasnt too keen on was how childish she was sometimes. For someone in her early twenties she was a bit like a teenage boy when it came to innuendo's, I also didn't really like the 'slap on the wrist for me' but otherwise an easy lighthearted read
this book was okay for me, it has a great concept and the first half was really good but i felt the other half was too fast. i hope there will be another book. this good for peopele who is looking for a fast read
