A Tail Like No Other #1

My Mate's a Dragon Slayer?

Rate this book
[Siren Everlasting Classic Erotic Alternative Fantasy Romantic Comedy, M/M, shape-shifters, HEA] Have you ever read one of those stories where fire-breathing dragons sweeps down from the sky, torches villages, and eats unsuspecting villagers? This isn't one of them. This is the real thing, and I'm a real dragon. My name's Dineiro, but you can call me Dini. All my friends do. Confused? I can definitely empathize. Imagine this. One day, while out with my friends, I run into the legendary Rainbow Brick Road, which leads me straight to my mate, Prince Kirril of Arthuria. Sadly, he is human, and a dragon slayer. And no, we don't just rush to each other and embrace like I might have imagined once or twice. Instead, he shoots me with a crossbow. We're so different, but against all odds, a true connection forms between us. Of course, the path of fate is fickle. If the two of us want to be together, we have a long road ahead. This is, after all, the first chapter in our tale. This book is written in first-person point of view. ** A Siren Erotic Romance

Absurdity at its finest. I’m going to round this up from 3.5 to 4 stars simply because it fit my mood nicely. I mean really, sweethearted dragons, carnivorous bunnies, and talking Rainbow Roads…absurd is really the best word I can use to describe things, but yet I enjoyed my read.

Dineiro, or Dini to his friends, is a dragon shifter. He’s a gentle soul and despite having to ultra powerful parents he’s rather on the small side and hasn’t yet found the key to his magic. When he hasn’t found his mate within the dragon tribes Dini follows the dragon ways and heads out on his own. He knows his mate is out there somewhere and when his pixie friend Larue says he has something to show him and their other friend Vesper the carnivorous bunny, well something seems to draw him that direction. Seeing the Rainbow Brick Road, well destiny may just be coming for him yet.

Prince Kirril of Arthuria is on a quest. Ok so maybe it’s not a quest for himself per se, but he loves his brothers and his brother seems very taken with the princess in Morgannia and her father demands the head of a dragon before he will allow anyone to take her hand in marriage. Medwin certainly isn’t a warrior so Kirril has taken it upon himself to succeed in his brother’s place. When the rode under his and his faithful stead Magda’s feet changes into the Rainbow Brick Road they know something fascinating is coming. They decide (Yes, Magda can talk, they’re best friends) it’s worth staying on the path and seeing what possibilities are out there. Finding a dragon is wonderful, finding out it can talk is a bit of a shock, seeing all that human male skin revealed after he shoots it with a crossbow bolt changes everything.

If those descriptions of don’t show you how silly of a take on fairytales this is, well then I don’t know what will. Yet for all its silliness the story never takes itself to seriously and I found myself quite enjoying it. This is a fantastical adventure for two star crossed lovers to travel, get to find love, end up on Earth and back again, all for no real purpose, but heck why not. As much as they have a soul bond between them Dini and Kirril needed time to get to know each other so why not have a fake quest to find the evil spirits who aren’t really evil and have captured their friends but aren’t really in any peril.

The randomly ending up on Earth was a bit strange, especially an Earth full of shifters and male pregnancy, but that still fit with in this wild wacky adventure. I have a feeling this probably crossed over into the world of one of Ms. Hyacinth’s other series, but since I haven’t read much by her I can’t be sure.

In the end I don’t have a lot to say about this one, I just went with the hilarity of it all and let myself enjoy. Dini was a sweet adorable little twink of a guy and all that insta-love epic romance for the ages stuff…sure why not. I find I’m still a little bit curious about the reality of a carnivorous bunny, but heck maybe we’ll find out more later. :D I’m more than a little amused by the match-making road Bowie and the host of other magical characters introduced in this story. It’s a good setup story for this world and I’ll probably find myself reading the sequel someday when I want a little silliness in my life.

A romantic comedy populated with shape-shifters and other creatures from fairy tales—such as princes, dragons, and other magical creatures? The "Rainbow Brick Road"? Bring it on! Just reading the short description of the book made me smile. Dini, the dragon, sounds so cute and when he first appears in the book, that's exactly who he is. A cuddly dragon. Unbelievable? Sure, but so is the rest of this very entertaining and fun story, so that's a great fit.

Dini of Merlinia is a purple dragon, and not sure what his magic is. His mother is an ice dragon, and his father's magical abilities are those of fire, so Dini figures he'll be a mix. As he discovers, that's not the only misconceptions he's grown up with. He's always been led to believe that his mate will be perfect for him, but when he runs into Prince Kirril of Arthuria, the human shoots him. That's a misunderstanding which proves to be relatively easy to resolve, but some of the mysteries and spells they run into as they try to find their friends, then get separated, are a lot tougher. Dini is ready though.

Kirril is in for the ride of his life and all he thought he signed up for was a simple quest: find a dragon, kill it, and present its head to his father the king, so he can make a treaty with the Morgannians. Kirril had no idea dragons were shifters, didn't know he'd end up mated to one, and can't believe the adventures they face as they travel through several magical countries, even briefly end up on Earth! Those were a very funny few chapters! Thankfully, Kirril is a fast learner, so he adapts quickly and becomes a real asset and a great protector for Dini.

If you like the funny side of fairy tales with a strong dollop of paranormal thrown in for good measure, if you enjoy reading about mates who go from enemies to lovers, and if you're looking for an entertaining read that will cause more than a few laughs, then you will probably like this first book in a new series. I loved it and am definitely looking forward to the next one.

Funny, fun and fresh twist on some of my favorote farytales and classic fictional characters. The cross over in the book from the taste of love series was like having my favorite flavored chocolate. Hoping this trend continues.

Interesting take on the fairy tales of our childhood. I for one get a perverse thrill out of reading about all of these traditional fairy tales made into gay male romances!!
This first book in the series doesn't focus on any particular fairytale characters. It mostly is setting up the world and all of the fairytale minor characters who will Become main characters in future books.
The main characters in this book were Dini and Kirril. Dini is a purple dragon shifter who lives in the land of Merlinia and Prince Kirril is a Arthurian which means he is basically a magicless human. There is also a land called Morgannan which we didn't learn much abt. But I would assume its where bad mages live. These 3 lands that comprise the world of Avalon seem to be pretechnology for the most part unless it is magic related or magic powered.

I really liked this book! It was a fairly quick read but extremely enjoyable. I am planning to continue with the series immediately!

My only issue is it's in the first person and I don't mind that when you have a clear idea of whose head you're in. It is confusing in this book because it switched POV and she doesn't tell you who you are listening to.

An amusing enough story about a shape-shifting dragon and his love affair with a wannabe dragon-slayer.

This book sets the premise of a world of magical creatures who mildly resemble our own real world myths and legends. I found the take on this charming but the story itself wasn't too enthralling.

Dini and Kirril are cute enough but I didn't feel invested in their romance. I wasn't quite drawn in.

Nevertheless, the story was entertaining and I was happy to read the next installment.

this is the very whimsical type of story line very fun and playful with a little bit of action thrown in. unfortunately for me when it comes to the sex it is a little too whimsical in romantical and I feel like some of the passion is lost in translation. I did find it to be a cute read just not super passionate for me

There should've been a warning for mpreg in the book description. Besides that problem it was a fun lighthearted read for which I might have given it three or four stars.
