Rue lives in the quiet little town of Calvary, Minnesota with her brother Kai, and her parents, Grace and William. Calvary is a beautiful place, with no crime, no drama and nestled along the great lakes. It is surrounded in lush forests, quiet, safe, everything you could ever wish for…or is it?

As Rue approaches her 17th birthday she is plagued with one problem, a very big one. Her Mother, Grace, has fallen ill. It is not a disease that can easily be fixed with medication, it is one of the mind. Grace has been admitted to Rolling River Asylum and once she is gone, Rue’s perfect world starts to crumble around her. Everything she has known is suddenly taken from her and with it her feeling of safety is dissolved.

Desperate to pull Rue out of her depression, her brother talks her into going to a party at the Graph house, home to Johnathan Graph, a boy Rue has always felt a strong connection to, but never acted on it. Once she is at the party she reconnects with Johnathan and is shocked at how her feelings seem to be so strong for him, but with one touch Rue has a terrifying vision and it sets everything into motion.

Soon after her revelation at the party, Grace and William suddenly disappear and with their absence two strangers, that of Joshua and Samantha Barrington, enter into Rue’s life. They come as protectors, not only to her, but to everyone she loves. Without them she would be lost, but with them she is reminded of how much she does not know. There is a war coming, a war that threatens everything she loves, everything she knows or ever will know. She is forced to face the truth about herself and about her family’s history, a truth that stems back to the beginning of time and that of the vampire.

Rewrite history through the eyes of the immortal.

Rue Volley is known for her original stories and The Blood & Light Vampire Series is no different as it offers a unique twist on the classic vampire tale. Since I read all six books in the series in order I could see the author grow as a writer with each installment. The world building and character development are fantastic.

I really struggled with this and stopped reading at 32% which is really unheard of for me. I fell in love with the characters and am gutted not to see how it all pans out especially for Rue and Josh.
Flipping back and forth between memories, the style of writing and the constant long winded sentences with lots of mistakes had my head hurting so much I had to give up :-(

If there was only one set of books that you get this year, then may I suggest you buy The Blood & Light Series, it is and has been for a long time my favourite series,
It has a fantastic start to the series with Blood & Light, You won't want to put it down, I loved every minute of it, Rue had me hooked, these Vampires are not normal everyday vampires, these are a different breed all together, I loved all the characters, they were so well written, I could not put it down, The fight scenes were stunning to read, I really felt like I was in the middle of them all, OOoooh Joshua Barrington, what can I say, LOVE him big time, but that's just my opinion, although he may sway a few of you, I loved Kai he was so funny, Jonah had to be inspired by Johnny Depp, that is who I visualise when reading this series, The Blood & Light Saga certainly keeps you on your toes, with the constant twists and turns, I would highly recommend this series to anyone who love Vampires with bite, but also for those who fancy a little something different to read, I wish I could go higher than 5/5, it is so worth it, I have laughed and cried my way through the whole series, it has romance, action, thriller, paranormal, abit of everything to cater to all needs, Get your set, you won't be Sorry

Interesting concept

This has got to be the most the twisted, in more than one way, " Vampire " book, that I have ever read. Not only does it go on and on, it's difficult to read with all the misspellings, clumsy grammar, bad punctuation and use of wrong words, I.e. weary instead of wary. This might have been a good book if written by Stephen King, case is the author I can think of that can write this many words and keep the reader entertained. I liked the main characters, but could not keep up with the constantly changing storyline.

I gave up after the first chapter. The author massively over uses ellipses and at one point changed from first person in one character, to another character for about three paragraphs, and then back to the first one with the first character acting like they knew what had happened even though they weren't in the room?! Yah. No. Don't read this.
