Life in the south is not easy for teenagers Nikki and Clay. In the nineteen hundred and sixties, they each hop a boxcar and leave their cities to move north. Nikki leaves solo from Alabama. Clay leaves with his best friend, Troy, from Georgia. Leaving the south for similar reasons, Nikki and Clay face coming of age issues as they adventure into experiences of love, drama, suspense and more.
I’m Nicole Tempest, but they call me Nikki. I’m leaving my home in the south as a teenager, and moving north. Why? Because I'm smothered!
