Discovering Us

They wanted forever... but sometimes forever's not that easy.

Ellen has loved Jagger since she was five and he was seven when they kissed through the chain link fence at school. She’s had their wedding planned since she was twelve and is ready for a happily ever after with him, but life just isn't that neat and tidy.

Although they lost contact over the years, which broke her heart, during Jag's senior year in high school, sophomore Ellen catches his eye once again and their friendship is back on. When things between them gradually develop into something more, Ellen wants to give herself completely to Jag, but he’s not so sure he wants to risk their relationship in taking things to the next level.

When Jag is drafted to the Dodgers as the hot, new pitcher of the team, Ellen decides to go with him, transferring colleges and leaving her friends and family behind. But things get more and more complicated when busy schedules, a slimy agent and a supermodel disrupt their lives, which makes Ellen question whether they’ll ever get their perfect forever.

This is the first book of the True Love Trilogy.

This is the first book in a trilogy series. It does in fact end with a CLIFFHANGER. To me, there are several different types of cliffhanger endings, my favorite type is the “happy for now” ending. When this story ended, I was ready to punch out the first person who crossed my path. Seriously, I was this mad…

description

This story takes Ellen and Jagger’s relationship from early childhood into their twenties.

”And thus our story began.
This is the first part of it. Bear with me. There’s been a lot of shit that’s gown down."

We have front row seats through their highs and the lows. Ellen is an extremely likable/relatable main character. I really loved her!!

"So...if choking is considered sexy, I nailed that bitch."

I learned two things from this book. The first is that long distance relationships really suck. The second is that having a hot, famous boyfriend isn't easy at all.

"I was almost twenty-two when I discovered that Jag was likely the most wanted man on the planet."

This story was cleverly written and I really did enjoy it! It was funny, angsty, swoon worthy and pretty hot. I found the sex scenes to be really, really steamy!

Overall, this a good read and had me from page one but, I sure wish I didn’t have to wait till February for the next book.

I really enjoyed this book ! I loved their true feelings for each other and I love, love, love the best friends to lovers storyline. Factor in a wallflower and a up and coming college baseball star and ..... Yeppers.... Watch-out for the book butterfly attack ❤️

El's point of view was humorous and genuine. I loved her inner thoughts. She has been in love with Jagger since she was 5 !
A-freaking-dorable ! Finally after years of being ignored by Jagger, he was able to open his eyes so that he could see her....

Then
They
Ignited

They fell in complete love and things were going so well ..... Enter the 90% drama curved ball tagged-teamed with lingerie model she-cat.....and there you have it. GIVE ME THE NEXT BOOK. I. Need. It. Now.

Overall this book had a perfect blend of swoon, angst, humor, sexy times which I felt were very well written and stayed true to the characters.

I can't wait til the next book! I need to see how Jagger is going to get his shit together and fix this ! ❤️ oh I I know he will. I guarantee it will be some beautiful epicness !

Off to the authors website : prologue of book two ..... Let's bring it!

Why oh Why do I torture myself reading cliffhangers that have no release date on the next book???

cliffhanger photo tumblr_mpecknwzxI1r5452po1_400_zps9152c08a.gif

I decided to read this knowing it was a cliffhanger since it was short. WHY!! WHY!!

angry photo 4906547_zpse3e78325.gif

I'm reading along and then bam. THE FUCKING END!! AGHHHH

kidding me photo 4331065_zps4d564cbc.gif

I will say as of right now I want to find out what happens. Depending on how long it takes book 2 to come out I may forget the story or just not be interested at all anymore though...

 photo 843975_zps47598f21.gif

Anyways, overall it was a decent NA read. Kinda reminded me of That Boy, Emerge, and maybe a little of More Than This.

You have the guy and girl who grew up together and fell in love and were BFF's, grew apart, did their own thing, got back together....then he goes to college to play baseball and she winds up at different college....That's all of the story you are getting from me...

kissing photo tumblr_m3vv7i35zn1rs00nzo1_500_zpsc401bcfc.gif

I did take a few points away for the "its so big I'm not sure if it will fit" and "I'm a virgin but I'm having an orgasm the first time I do it and its so amazing blah blah blah"

Oh for shits sake! I knew going in this was a series and that this would end in a cliffhanger. But oh my shit!! I did not expect to love everything about this story and the writing. The characters!
Jagger and El grew up together. At the start of each chapter is a sentence. And it's kinda powerful because it sets the tone of that chapter. I loved the progression of the story from age 5 into their twenties.
Jag was such a great character! Just the right amount of sexy and sweet. Kind and genuine. I thought he had a huge heart and El was firmly planted there.

Ellen (El) was a great narrator of this book. From the 5 year old girl on up. She was cute, sassy, joking, and fiercely loyal. She adored Jag from a very young age. She was such a cool chick. Not annoying, clingy or did stupid shit to get his attention. One of the things you'll adore about these two is their ability to be honest and communicate. Jag is seriously a sweetheart. But he is a guy, so he's bound to make mistakes..

As they grow older, life changes. Jag ends up in the MLB while El is continuing her college education. There is a bitch ass supermodel who pisses me off. An asshole agent. Life is really affecting these two and throw in outside influences that don't have their best interests at heart and you've got some angst.
I knew shit was going to hit the fan eventually and when it did, I was sad and pissed!! But still worth the read.

I normally don't pick up a cliffhanger because... well I don't have to explain it to you guys. But wowza I'm really glad I did!! I can't wait to get my hands on the next book out in February.

GOOD THE FUCK BYE TO JAGS EXISTENCE. I Swear if the author lets Ellen take Jag back with open arms in the next book I will be royally pissed. He needs to beg & grovel in the goddamn mud the entire 2nd book.

***WARNING: RANT COMING***

description

I came across Discovering Us in some recommended list next to Ignite by R. J. Lewis, which I fucking loved. So I had to give this a shot.

That was probably not one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life.

Jagger Jensen and Ellen Love met when she was five and he was seven years old. Ellen has had the biggest crush on Jagger for many many years. At the age of eleven, she discovered that he wouldn't return her feelings, so they stopped talking for five years. Until they started hanging out again years later.

They started dating and the drama began.

description

The author summarize years of their relationship so it was fucking hard for me to feel connected with these two. I didn't trust Jagger ever since he stopped talking to Ellen for five years. THAT LITTLE SHIT. I'm not taking sides because I didn't feel any sympathy for Ellen but she wasted precious time with him and I hated that she was so blind by this "love" that she didn't see that he was controlling her and treating her like shit.

But she knew deep down that he was being an asshole to her because every time she wanted to talk about his ass behaviour, he would toss it aside like it was nothing and tell her that he was tired of fighting. Ugh.

He does something at the end of this book that if it doesn't irritate the shit out of you, I don't know what will.

description

I don't think there would ever be redemption for this asshole. I won't even touch book 2, because I know he will say something sweet and she's going to forgive him like the little lamb that she is.

This should've been a standalone... I can't believe it's a trilogy. I don't like Ellen but she deserves WAAAY better than Jagger.

It pisses me off more because there are girls out there whom stay in a relationship with a guy that treats them like shit and then hope one day the guy would wake up and tell them they're the love of their life and live happily ever after. They stay hoping he would change, only to end up losing themselves.

IMO thats wrong and reading about it made me want to vomit. I don't give a shit about their happy ending. Period.

I have waited until february to start this one because I knew it would end in a cliffy. So after I finished it I looked up for some reviews for book 2 and what did I see?? Book 2 ends in a cliffhanger too!

I really considered to continue with this series just to see how asshole Jagger would grovel. Even though I didn't like the first book.

About the book
Jag and El have been friend since they were 5 years old bla bla

When El was 11 they stopped speaking and talking for 5 years blabla

At the age of 16 they started dating...

The whole book seemed to me like a big summary of their relationship since El was 5 years old.
At first I thought the author just summed up the childhood. But the summary continued til the end of this book. It seemed to me that the author skimmed her own book :D It was hard for me to understand the relationship since the author summarized whole years in chapters.

The rest of the story includes a long distance relationship, jealousy, an asshole hero named jagger and a cliffhanger. Jagger is totally selfish even if he thinks otherwise and not lovable at all.
Ellen has no backbone. She seems with everything okay.. well until the last chapter :D
But I doensn't matter to me because I wont continue this series. I can totally see what will happen in book 2. He is going to try to win her back and she is going to refuse for a long and annoying time. Eventually they will make up again til someone will mess up things again. That's where book 3 will start.

No thanks!

FUUUUUUUU**. That cliffhanger has put me in a blind murderous rage. I LOATHE and I DESPISE Dirk and I want to stick pins in an Alessandra-shaped voodoo doll. I am so hating on the world right now, all because of this bloody book! Ellen didn’t deserve the last 4 years. Not one moment of it.

Emotions aside, this book was short. It felt almost like a novella, with each chapter jumping forward around about a year. Because of the breakneck pace, I felt like I could only really develop superficial feelings for Ellen and Jag yet clearly I was wrong or I wouldn’t be throwing things.

Strangely enough, it wasn’t one event that made me want to claw Jag’s eyes out. It was a number of events and his reactions to them. In fact, his behaviour for the whole 4 or whatever years of his relationship with Ellen. I feel like Ellen is kind of to be blame too. While she didn’t necessarily let Jag walk all over her, she let stuff go way too easily. She gave in to him way too easily. And she gave so much of herself away for so little in return.

I am furious at many things in this book, but I'm most furious with myself for not waiting till book 2 was out. So I will sit here fuming and tapping my foot until it does. Seriously.

What a story! I really enjoyed this one. It was light, funny and sweet. It follows El and Jag as friends since childhood growing up together as friends and then into lovers. As Anna said there were definitely book butterflies, but that ending was brutal! Yes there's a cliffhanger, Grr! I need book 2 NOW and I need Jag to take his head out of his ass and make it all better. I know Jag is a good guy at heart and he's going to have a lot of sucking up to do, not just to El, but to me too.

Overall Opinion: I am just coming off of that killer cliffhanger, so that might effect my review. I liked this story. I am a sucker for romances that are over many years time, so this was right up my alley. I loved their first kiss, and the innocence of their early friendship...we will have to see what happens next...

Storyline: This is Ellen "El" and Jagger "Jag"'s story. The duo met when El was 5 and Jag was 7 at an ice cream truck when they bonded over Spider-Man ice cream bars. They quickly became best friends after that. Then after Jag's 13th birthday he discovered girls and the duo was separated for 5 years without communication other than friendly waves. Once El was 16, Jag approached her to give her a ride home. After a few awkward moments, they connected like the friends they once were. The attraction was too much to ignore and they fell in love. This part of their story follows their hard times being separated (Jag goes off to college not much after they reconnect and then off to play baseball) for many years. They are finally able to live together and start their lives together in LA, but other situations (mainly the dealing with Jag's rise into fame) cause problems for them.

POV: This was in Ellen's POV

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I read this really quick, so there were no parts that I felt were rushed or slow.

H rating: 2 stars. Jag. Ok, I know this rating is strongly influenced by the cliffhanger where Jag messed up...but I also feel like he messed up a lot through the story . I just found him not to be really remorseful for his mistakes, and that's not a great quality to have.

h rating: 3 stars. El. I wanted her to grow a backbone. What Jag did was not ok. She was obviously effected by his actions, but she let him push the issue under the rug. She defended him to their friends and family -- which I admire her loyalty...but when he wasn't remorseful I wanted her to make him work a little harder for his forgiveness .

Angst level: Moderate. No tears, but some major drama especially at the end.

Heat level: Moderate. Steamy scenes between the couple

Descriptive sex: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM:

Cheating:

Possible Triggers:

Closure: Major cliffhanger. This is a trilogy, so it is to expected...we will see how it works out...

DISCOVERING US
FINDING US
FINALLY US by Harper Bentley (True Love Series 1-3)

**4 Stars Overall**

I read this trilogy of books back to back and will do one review collectively for all three books. It was such a plus that I knew all three books were available and I didn't have to wait or face being miffed when I hit cliffhangers at the end of Books 1 and 2! It was somewhat of an adventurous journey including the good and the bad times with El and Jag over an estimated 25 year period of time. El, at age 5, crushed on Jag. He didn't have a clue. This is my favorite kind of series as you watch your characters grow and mature from childhood friendships, first loves and all the thrills and angst that seems to follow, and then into adulthood that included a long-distance relationship where things get ugly, nasty and downright real before taking a turn towards happily-ever-after.

Book 1 is written from El’s POV, Book 2 is from Jag’s POV, and Book 3 gives us POVs from both El and Jag. I really enjoyed the way this trilogy was written. Of course, the fact that Jag was a star baseball player and swoon-worthy -- even though a bit of a jerk at times -- only upped the excitement for the sports-themed lover in me. The story covers a lot of ground and readers will get a taste of many fun-to-read moments, along with the dose of angst that most always wiggles its way into relationships, characters that grow on you as they grow up, and some really steamy and sizzling encounters that are sure to please romance readers.

Book 3 was the crowning glory. Things started to fall into place and love between these two stood on solid ground. The trust and loyalty settled into place, and they finally got it right and learned from all those past mistakes.

An Epilogue that truly sparkles and shines in giving a reader all they could hope for in the conclusion to the long and arduous journey of El and Jag.

Let me start by saying that I HATE cliffhangers. I usually knock at least 1 star off due to them, but I didn't with this one. I loved this book until the end. Jag and El were crazy in love, and I enjoyed reading about their journey. And, those sex scenes. HOT! However, Jag disappointed me so much at the end. I fear he is heading to be Jack Carter Jr., and while many love Jack Carter, I am not one of them. He's a douchebag, and after Jag's actions and that ending, he is hanging out with Jack Carter (and Jack Howard) in douchebag land. I'm not sure Jag can redeem himself for me. I hope El picks herself up and finds someone deserving of her love, and hopefully, that is a groveling Jag!

this book was absolutly fuper!!! ;) (yes, sometimes I'm mixing up words like that myself...)
I adored the story of El and Jag and loved their special connection because they knew each other and were close friends since they were little kids. I smiled, laughed and snorted and just overall felt good while reading. even though there are a few times when things got tough I never doubted this special connection between these two and lost hope that they will pull through. now the ending was something else... WHY??? oh why... I can't wait for the next book to see what's going on. there has to be a simple explanation, right?! well done, Harper!!! I'm so proud of you! ♥

OH! forgot... the beginning of each chapter was amazing, so loved it!!! :)

First, let me say that I hate cliffhangers! Jagger is a complete and utter jerk. He just doesn't get it. He is pretty self-absorbed and insensitive. While he says he loves her, I don't feel he loves El as much as she loves him. He makes her feel at fault and guilty when she calls him on some of his BS.

I'm not sure I believe his commitment to El over the years. It seems that he takes her feelings for granted. I rated this a 4 star because now that I am invested, I have to find out what happens next. I was hoping that I wouldn't like this one enough to care. It did suck me in. On to book 2. I just hope El and I get some satisfaction. Jagger should have a tough road ahead. If he doesn't, I won't rate book 2 so highly and probably will not read the last book in the trilogy.

Two words: juvenile and boring. The writing is juvenile. The characters are juvenile. There is no chemistry between whiny Ellen and cardboard Jagger. And you would think there would be some given that these two have been besties since the age of five.

This book is a weird mix of summarizing years of a relationship in a couple of sentences but at the same time focusing on the most pointless details about things and people that don't matter AT ALL. As a result, I ended up skimming most of the book.

And I can't believe there is a sequel! There is no need for one. No need whatsoever. Just make it all one book -- one horribly written book under 200 pages. Oh wait, that's what this book is already.

I love it! But damned me, do i really have to wait till february for the next book? That's just cruel. I'd be nice for Jag to finally grow some b@!!$ in the next book or for Ellie to have a new love interest. Just something for Jag to finally open his freakin eyes and grovel, and do the chasing. Its sad and unnerving that he allowed people to treat Ellie that way and just stood there and watched her heart broken. Nothing like a good ol' moving with a new guy while ex tries to win her back, i think she totally deserve that.

Okay. The cover is absolutely AWESOME!! Loved the book, loved the characters until the end..... Can anybody say the word ANGST... OMG, this book has in spades!!! I could not put it down. BUT WTF??????

I really do not deal well with cliffhangers...... I am still pissed.... even a few hours after finishing the book.... but I guess that means that I won't soon forget this one!!

My biggest regret is now we have to wait until February to find how El deals with the Ass-Hole???????

Ellen Love has loved Jagger Knox Jensen since the age of ten. She has been friends with him since she was 5 years old. He was her first playmate, confidant and protector. Growing up with him and her best friend Rebecca has been a blessing but when suddenly Jag starts dating everything changes. This is the first time he breaks her heart.
During the next five years they don't hang out anymore and Ellen tries to avoid any contact with him. It is very painful for her to see him with a different girl all the time but suddenly everything changes and he is back in her life. He wants her with him but their relationship is full of separations.

"Bec, Jag and I are meant to be. They say long-distance relationships don't work, but by God, we've lasted this long, so I know nothing's gonna happen."

Jag is going to be a famous baseball player and when the Dodgers come knocking he can't say no. Jag wants his girl with him and when finally everything seems to click in place, everything crumbles. And I mean crumbles to dust. Majorly!!

A friend recommended this book and I was very happy with it until the end. She forgot to tell me that there was a huge cliffhanger. I love Jag and El together.
During the first few chapters you can sense her pain when Jag starts dating. Then, you can fill her elation when he comes back for her.
It just seems that El always felt that Jag was too good for her, too handsome to be with her.

The end is horrible. Don't get me started with Jag. He is on my hate list right now. I need to see him beg, crawl, mad with jealousy.
I sincerely hope that Ellen makes him suffer. I can't say more without revealing too much.
It seems to me that if you are named Jack/Jag/or even Jax (SOA) you make huge mistakes. Thank God for Jake Andrews!

Where to start .. I haven't read a book in a while where the washing ,household chores ,hell even the bathroom break can wait ..till now!

Bought this afternoon and finished in one sitting ..
Brilliant storyline and excellent characters ..

February can NOT come around quick enough .. its my birthday month too ! :)

Spoiler alert beware! Omg did that just end like that? I have loved Jag this entire book up until the last few chapters. I want to stab that stupid lingerie model Alessandra. Ugh!!!! jag and Ellen are perfect for each other. They grew up together and finally fell in love in high school. They survived being apart for years while Jag was at south Carolina playing college baseball then while he was off starting his professional baseball career. Things were great until they moved to los Angeles together when Jag moved up to play for the Dodgers. Then a deceitful manager kept getting in the way. Then he shot the stupid commercial with the bitch Alessandra. Then he lied that he had signed to shoot three total commercials with her. Ugh!!! I want to stab her. When El gets all dressed up to go to a premier with Jag dressed and ready at last minute he tells her that his manager says she can't go with him. The bastard goes without her and is allowing Alessandra, the bitch, hang all over him. Then to top it off he brings the bitch home to her condo drunk hanging all over him. Then he tells El he's tired of fighting about it and they need a break. Then he leaves in his car. The next day El gets on a plane back home to Chicago. Omg. What a cliffhanger!!!

Not quite 4 stars.

I love second chance romances. I also love childhood friends turned sweethearts. History between the two characters is essential in hooking me to a story.

This story had the H and h share their first kiss in the school playground when she was in kindergarten and he was in second grade. I got Dusty flashbacks in that scene.

This really started out great. Ellen was a great character and I found her humor entertaining. Childhood friends but she was two years younger which meant eventually he moved on and she was left behind. Until they reconnected and struggled to maintain a long-distance "relationship" as they had to eventually go their separate ways to achieve their dreams.

What I felt lacking was scenes together apart from the sex when they eventually got together. Naturally there weren't a lot because they were apart most of the time. But still scenes together would have provided a better hook to keep me emotionally invested in these two as a couple. Unfortunately, it read a lot like a narration from Ellen. She is obviously speaking in retrospect. Hopefully the sequel will be in the present tense and provide more scenes in present time of the two main characters together.

I really like the "New Adult" genre...but its habit of drawing out a story over multiple 130 page books is getting pretty annoying. It's a romance, not Game of Thrones. It certainly would have been possible for the author to finish the story in one book, so I'm not really sure why that didn't happen. The big cliffhanger at the end is just irritating when you know you have to wait ages for a new book just to continue the same storyline...when most romances include the whole story in one volume. Maybe I'm the odd one out, just my two cents.

Absolutely loved this book and thankfully I'm following it up by reading Finding Us because I despise cliffhangers. Towards the end of the book I literally wanted to kick Jagger in his balls....I couldn't understand why he couldn't figure out what went wrong between him and Ellen. Anyway review be combined with book 2.
