The Cowboys of Chance Creek #1

The Cowboy's E-Mail Order Bride

Rate this book
Ethan Cruz should be mending fences on his Montana ranch, but instead he’s driving to the Chance Creek, Montana, airport – to pick up the bride he didn’t know he had. This latest salvo in his ongoing practical joke battle with his best friend, Rob Matheson, has gone too far, and Ethan plans to send his “bride” right back home, then get busy plotting his revenge. One look at Autumn Leeds changes his mind, however. Perhaps he needs a bride, after all. A breathtakingly beautiful city bride.

Autumn Leeds needs a story – fast – or she’s going to lose her lucrative contract with CityPretty Magazine, so when she sees the crazy video plea for a modern mail-order bride for a cowboy, it sounds like the story of the century. Making a video of her own, she casts herself as the perfect mail-order bride for a rancher, but when she finally reaches Montana, she’s surprised to find Ethan’s the perfect cowboy husband-to-be. Against her better judgment, her plan to keep her handsome groom at arm’s length disintegrates into a night of passion spent in his arms.

Ethan knows he can’t keep playing this game – he has to come clean with Autumn and tell her the truth; about the practical joke and about the state of his ranch. He’s about to lose it all because of the debts his mother racked up before his parents’ deaths. Now his sister, Claire, wants to sell the ranch and collect what little money they can. He’ll be out of a home and a job, and in no shape to support the bride he desperately wants to marry, after all.

Autumn’s in bigger trouble than ever. Not only has she fallen in love with the subject of her expose – she might be carrying his child. If she doesn’t write this article and secure her contract for another year, she’ll lose everything – her career, her apartment, and more importantly, her family’s approval. The only alternative is to stay and marry Ethan. But how can she trust a man she’s just met when she knows too well that men always let you down?

Can a love based on lies last?

The Cowboy's E-mail Order Bride was a fun, quick read. It's one of those stories you know would never happen in real life but it was still cute and entertaining so you roll with it. I really liked Ethan and Autumn. Although with Ethan it was an instant like and with Autumn I took a second to warm up to her. Ethan was this sexy, yummy, hard working cowboy. Autumn was kinda uptight, way to worried about what her mom thought and pretty naive. But under all her little girl childhood insecurities she was pretty wonderful. I liked that Cora Seton let her characters have flaws but was still able to make them very likable. Making them more relatable.

drama photo: Drama! b88fol.gif

Somehow this book managed to be on the lighter side while still having tons of drama in it. I don't know how that worked but it did. Both the Ethan and Autumn were lying their asses off to each other. There was tons of ex drama with Lacey, Ethan's bitch ex. There was mama drama with her man hating mom, but still it had a playful happy feel to it. So kudos to Cora Seton for writing a book filled with tons drama that was still some how fun and lighthearted! A nice start for the series. I am looking forward to the next book. I didn't really like Ethan's sister and her book is next. I can't wait to see if the author can change my opinion Claire.

A cowboy declares what he's looking for in a wife, his friend makes it into a YouTube video, and a New York City gal wanting to make her name in print decides to take him up on his offer. Ethan Cruz feels like he will just tell the young Autumn Leeds that it was all a joke, but the instant the two meet the sparks and the clothes begin to fly.
Fantastic characters , fast moving plot, and the Chance Creek setting make this book another surefire hit for Cora Seton!

I read this book in one sitting. It was good!! And a bit annoying because I just wanted all the secrets to unfold, yet I laughed and aww'd so the slow unfolding of lies was worth it.

A group of buddies like to pull pranks on one another. So one drunken night out the H/Ethan spills his guts on a perfect bride. Due to a prank Ethan played on his friend, his friend decides to pay him back by recording his speech then uploading it to youtube requesting for a mail-order bride.

The h/Autumn works for a sleazy magazine and is about to lose her job due to cutbacks. She sees the video and decides she'll apply for the mail order bride and write a huge expose making a fool out of Ethan.

As always things don't go as planned. Autumn and Ethan like each other from the start and decide to play it out and see where this relationship will go. Autumn doesn't know this is all a joke and Ethan has no clue Autumn is with him just for a story. Ethan also has a crazy ex who spends most of the book causing chaos and doing everything to break them up.
His ex Lacy is CRAZY!!

On top of it all Ethan is crazy broke, indebted up to his eyeballs and about to lose his ranch. Autumn is on the verge to lose her job and apartment unless she can write this amazing story.

But after all the hurt and lies they power through and live HEA.

A relationship started by a lie turns into something truly beautiful, in The Cowboy’s E-Mail Order Bride.

Ethan Cruz is a ranch owner struggling with the debts that were left by his deceased parents. His fiancée has left him for a richer man and his friends just played the best practical joke ever...they made a video and posted it on youtube saying Ethan was searching for an instant bride.

Autumn Leeds is a reporter for a failing gossip rag paper, in an effort to save her job she must come up with the article of a lifetime. She is going under cover accepting a cowboy’s request for an email order bride. Three weeks in to get the story and Autumn gets out and saves her career.

What neither of them expected was to find the perfect partner and lover. Passionate and intense, the relationship instantly catapults to the point that neither wants out. The problem is that the relationship is based on lies and deceit and what will happen if either of their secrets is exposed.

I found this story sweet and charming. I was emotionally moved by the plot. Although each character has their flaws, they quickly discover true happiness can exist. Watching them risk their tattered hearts is the wonderful journey I took in reading The Cowboy’s E-mail Order Bride.

This ARC copy of The Cowboy's E-mail Order Bride was given to me by CrushStar Multimedia LLC - One Acre Press in exchange for an honest review. This book is set for publication April 30, 2013.

★★★½✩ Nicely narrated. Cute story, but man-oh-man, these two kept changing their minds. Just when the thought one way, their actions went another...and then back again. Still, I know I'll continue the series. Fast, quick listen.

Yeah the title is a little hokey, but heck, I loved it!!!! Read it in one afternoon and I loved every minute of it!!!

Ethan was that hot and determined cowboy that you drool over and Autumn... go get him honey!!!

Yeah, so they both started into the relationship with some whopper lies but who doesn't have a little emotional baggage right?

Oh. My. God.... Freakin' Lacey! Bitch, I wanted yank out your hair and claw at your eyeballs!! Get a life woman!

Rob... Yeah, is it weird that a fictional character gives me the creeps? I don't know. I just don't like him.

Okay, this had a certain element that made it that much cuter!!! I can't say what it is without giving away the surprise, but those who know me, know what my soft spot is...

The Cowboy's Email Order Bride by Cora Seton is a 2013 One Acre Publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ethan has been ditched by his fiancé and in a night of drowning his sorrows he tells his buddies what he thinks would make a good wife. Little did he know his best friend Rob was recording everything he said on his phone, nor that Rob has decided to post it to you tube. The next thing he knows Autumn Leeds has shown up accepting his offer of marriage, home life on a ranch and promises to provide him with babies.

While Ethan's friends are laughing about the joke they played on him, they never gave a thought to who Autumn might be and why on earth would she answer an online ad for a bride. Autumn does have her own agenda.

The joke plays out longer than Ethan had planned. His ranch is having financial problems and he can't afford a wife. He needs to tell Autumn the truth, but the problem is he and Autumn seem to find this marriage of convenience to their liking after all. But the secret they are both hiding will have to come out sooner or later and when it does....

This is a another enjoyable story is this series. If you like contemporary western romance or just plain old contemporary you should check this series out.

What started out as a practical joke by friends has Ethan Cruz furiously trying to figure out a way to rectify a wrong when he learns that Autumn Leeds has flown out to Chance Creek, Montana to become his e-mail you tube bride. Autumn just wants a chance to catapult her career as a journalist from the drudges it has become, pretending to be a docile woman wanting to settle down on a ranch is the perfect opportunity nab her story. Of course neither Ethan or Autumn expected the undeniable chemistry between them, or a rash kiss to turn into full out fondling, or 29 days to explain that both have been less than honest about their first intentions but they are both falling in love.

The Cowboy's E-Mail Order Bride went by very quickly in my opinion. So you'd think that it wouldn't be jam-packed with so much stuff in it. Well, you would be wrong because there was so much romance and drama.

In it, you will meet Ethan and Autumn. Now these two were likable in their own ways. Plus their romance definitely got cute when it needed to be. In the beginning, though, Autumn was kind of annoying and I'm glad that Ethan warmed her up a bit because I don't think I would've handled her annoying ass for the entire book if he didn't.

As for the drama, well, there was plenty to go around. Whether it was lying to one another or dealing with a dramatic ex. This book was filled with it all and kept this a page turner for me. Not sure if I will dive into the next book anytime soon. Mostly because I read this for a challenge.. but if I find it - I might as well dive into it.

The Cowboy’s E-Mail Order Bride is the first book in the Cowboys of Chance Creek by Cora Seton. This book was a great beginning to a series that I would definitely want to read more of.

Ethan Cruz and his friends are the kings of pranks. And right now he is on the receiving side of a very big prank. He’s found himself driving to the Chance Creek airport to pick up his new bride. How did he get this new bride, you ask? It’s simple, really. His best friends videoed him one night ranting about the attributes that his perfect wife would need to have. Never mind the fact that he was drunk off his butt and had no idea a camera was rolling or that they planned to splice that very video, put it up on Youtube as a want ad and get him a wife. He really should just strangle them and start fresh with new friends, but one look at the woman and he just can’t help himself. He figures what’s the harm – he’ll take her home, get to know her and treat it as if they are getting to know one another in a normal situation. He just can’t bring himself to let her know that this was all a joke. After all, she signed on for this thinking it was real.

Autumn Leads will do anything to save her career. That’s obvious by the situation she has gotten herself into. She saw an ad on Youtube for a wife. Who even does that? Her first thought was “this is the chance I’ve been waiting for”. She answered the ad and was chosen and now all she has to do is catch a flight to Montana, play the part of bride to be and get every bit of dirt and information she can on these hicks. That way when she gets back to the “big city” she can write a scathing article on the kind of men that thinks this is an acceptable form of courting and the kind of women that would answer such a thing. What could go wrong, right?

I found this couple hopelessly sweet, even when they were their own worst enemies. I love that they not only discovered an affinity and love for one another, but Autumn learned that it’s okay to go with her heart and do what she loves instead of living in fear of disappointing her family.

“I’m just a man, Autumn. A flawed man. But, I love you more than you will ever know.”

This book definitely has some fluffy, cheesy parts, but a lot of romance books do. It’s not distracting or overdone. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more about these prankster friends and what other troubles they get themselves into.

This was a fun and short (read it in one sitting) read no doubt about it (nobody can resist a hot cowboy). Although, I do wish some aspects of it turned out differently, more specifically the insta-love and copious amounts of lies the two main characters engage in as a basis for their relationship. I mean, if they just sat down and actually talked, all the unnecessary misunderstanding could have been easily avoided. Other than that, overall, The Cowboy's E-Mail Order Bride was an okay read. I'll look forward to the next book in the series.

Well, there's fun and frolics in this modern western. A girl from the city decides to fake a response to an online ad for a bride. Why? To write a magazine article about the strange customs of cowboys. She doesn't know that the ad itself was something of a fake, placed by the friends of the prospective groom instead of the man himself. That said, he's short of romance and she fits the bill.

As you can imagine the complications that ensue are manyfold. Though the girl did herself no favours, in my eyes, by getting drunk and jumping into bed with a total stranger. Not to mention, his slightly disturbed ex girlfriend is still around town, on the arm of a quiet wealthy guy, still trying to cling to the hardworking impoverished cowboy. We learn that ranches don't make money and good food is a definite requirement when you work outdoors all day. And we learn that deceit of any kind in a relationship will come back to bite you.

I saw several years ago a magazine called Alaska Man which worked on the basis that there are ten times as many men as women in Alaska and the men advertise to attract ladies in lower latitudes. So that kept running through my mind as I was reading, though the tale takes place in Montana / Wyoming area. It's nicely written and explores hidden depths. Have fun.

I knew I loved Ethan when that boy pulled out Autumns chair, "Ethan stood up, too, and helped pull back her chair. A gentleman. She liked that. "I'll be waiting." Although the boy does need to work on his tact just a tad, "how much is that gonna cost me?" The words were out before he thought them through and she rewarded him with a look that seemed half-disgust, half-hurt." The boy appreciates food, "well, you can cook me dinner," he said, grinning. "Anything with meat. Otherwise, look around the place and get settled. relax." He's also addicted to Autumn and I did love his answer on a situation or a non-situation, "why not? If you're pregnant, it won't hurt the baby, and if you aren't, don't you think we should remedy that as soon as possible?" Personally I think the boy just doesn't want to use a condom. He's also not one for having to share his woman with other people, "when are you going to send those people away?" he growled into her neck." I'm going to love these cowboys!

This book was better than I expected. Okay so the title is really cheesy but it was a lot of fun to read. 3 Cowboy ★★★

4 friends like to play pranks on one another. Ethan, Rob, Cab and Jamie. A couple of months ago Ethan to one prank too far and Rob is out for payback. Rob gets Ethan drunk and asks him what is dream wife would be like. he spills his guts and a video of a modern "Searching for an Email Bride" ends up on Youtube.
Autumn is a NYC girl looking for a story so that she doesn't lose her job. She finds the video on Youtube and applies. That the story that she told is a complete lie doesn't matter in the beginning that is until Autumn and Ethan meet one another at the airport.
What started out as a joke for both parties became real. There was Ethans ex who deserved a good old bitch slapping.
There is the HEA and if you are looking for something with humor and a fluffy read not to be taken to seriously then this is the book.

This was a free Amazon book and it was a lot of fun. I can see that the author is setting up several more stories with the supporting characters from this book. Ethan is a Montana rancher who's been jilted by his fiancee because his ranch is in a massive amount of debt. His friends set him up with a YouTube want ad for a bride as a joke. Autumn answered the ad - initially as an 'undercover' look at the Montana/ranch lifestyle - but ends up falling hard for Ethan. Deceptions on both of their parts quickly give way as they learn about each other. The plot is predictable, but the author does it well. I definitely will be looking to continue the series.

Quote I liked:

...in the end it's the people in our lives, not the things we own, that make life worth living.

This book was just ok. I mean I loved the idea of taking the historical ‘mail order bride story’ and giving it a much needed update with emails and Youtube. What I didn’t like was some of the characters, the lies they all told and how fast they seem to fall for each other. I understand it is a work of fiction but it was just a bit too unrealistic in my opinion.

I think if you like contemporary, small town, cowboy romance then you should take a chance on this book. It is a relatively quick read and maybe you will like it more than I did!

I don't know why, don't bother asking.
It was free on Amazon, and it was late and I didn't want to get out of bed to find the book I should have been reading, so I told myself that the idea of modern-day mail order brides could be interesting (and it was youtube-based, btw, and not email), so despite the fact that the cover is pretty meh, I thought I'd give it a try.
It was fine, mostly forgettable, completely unbelievable, and why does everybody gotta go preggers-crazy in romances these days? But yeah, quick and free, and fairly painless.

This was a fun one nighter. In every sense of the word.
Fun characters, crazy Lifetime movie plot ( if you remove the naughty bits lol but I rather enjoyed them, the stairs scene in particular was hot), cheesy as hell cowboys, predictable romance, unbelievable decision making. All of which kept me up until the early hours of the morning to finish it!

It’s great if you want a quickie ( pun intended) 😉

The couple: Ethan and Autumn

Romance genre: mail order bride
Series: The Cowboys of Chance Creek
Length: 260 pages

Plot: Autumn has a chance to keep her job at the tabloid where she works, and it involves her writing a story about a cowboy who's so desperate for a particular type of wife that he posted a video ad. She takes the bait and heads out west. However, she doesn't realize that the cowboy, Ethan, was set up by his friend in a revenge prank. So Autumn arrives in town, and she's tricking Ethan into thinking she really wants to get married so that she can write her story and then vanish. He's allowing her to believe that he really wants to get married because he can't figure out how to get out of this joke that's gone too far. But along the way, the two of them start to see a way forward in a real marriage; you just know someone will come in and try to tear them apart.

Commentary: I liked this story well enough, although I'm not a big fan of the "girl reporter deceiving her mark for a story" trope. Towards the end, it was a little ridiculous that she was mad at him for deceiving her and he was really mad at her for deceiving him, but they both started it, so to speak. Every little step along the way, they each made a choice to continue lying. So it was a story full of lying liars. Ethan in particular seemed to feel guilty and so often jumped to conclusions:
He stood, knocking his chair to the floor. “You’re not on birth control. And you didn’t tell me? How many times have you done this?” She sat back like she’d been slapped. “Done what?” “Had unprotected sex with a stranger and then extorted money from him. Is that how you make your living? Is that what this is all about? You sleep around, get knocked up, gather diamond rings, then take off, get rid of the baby, and cash in?”

The "best friend," the ex-girl friend, and the mom were truly awful people, and it's a shame that Ethan and Autumn had those influences in their lives, influences that led them to engage in their deceptions in the first place.

This was a very enjoyable book to read. Not only did it have the fun element nailed down, but also it had an amazingly interestingly realistic sweet romance.

All the characters showed noticeable positive development in character.
One of the great aspects of this book is that it didn't have much drama or stereotypes. Add to that the fact that even the complications that were seen since the start of the book were solved smoothly and easily that it didn't lead to frustration or annoyance.

Cora seton did a great job in perfecting the plot and the style. Cora also gave us a great teaser in the last chapter of who is the next book is about which was, in my opinion, a very smart move as it peaked my interest in searching and reading the next book :).

This book is a PG book due to the presence of minimal sex scenes in the book, However, there was no evident details or violence.
the language used is mild and unoffensive.

All in all, I recommend this book to everyone, it works best as a relaxed romantic read between heavy books or when you are in need of utter relaxation and peace.

Until next review , stay lovely and enjoy reading :)

I'd ask myself "why am I here?" but the better question would be "why did I stay?"

Cowboys and their hard working hands, of course —

Just a question, though, where on God's green Earth Montana, USA did Autumn landed wherein she couldn't get to a pharmacy and her response to a drunken unprotected sex is "hey, if it happens, I guess then I'm prEGnAnT, ain't it?"

I just needed something to rinse the God-awful feeling of meh slump-inducing reads and heavy non-fiction. It did the job. I was entertained, midly ... I guess ... for a brief moment. Well, it at least had a spark, just one though.

Fast, sloppy writing, cardboard characters. Everything is incredibly juvenile and ridiculous. So many nonsense, so few cowboys. Good premise, mediocre execution. I might read the rest if only for Jamie.

Good thing it's free.

If you haven't read this, feel free to take a pass. You're not missing out.

Meh. I was really enjoying this book... but naturally the ending ruined it. Talk about sappy... There's a point where romance just becomes a little to unrealistically optimistic about people.

The Cowboy’s E-mail Order Bride by Cora Seton
3 ½ stars

Ethan is a cowboy down to his core. He has never wanted to do anything other than work on his family ranch; he hates the electronics of the times, never carries his cell phone and refuses to use a laptop to help with the books. It has been an emotional time for Ethan, his parents were killed in a accident, soon after he learned the ranch he inherited is mortgaged to the hilt, his fiance left him once she learned of his large debt and his sister who owns half the ranch with him wants to sell and plans never to step foot on the ranch again. All of that doesn't make the start of this book the most humiliating day of his life, the fact his friends played a practical joke on him and that he is driving with them to the airport to pick up a e-mail order bride for him makes Ethan want to throttle his friends and run for the hills at the same time. When he sees Autumn he is stunned by her beauty. Autumn is making a last ditch effort to save her job. She works in NYC at a magazine and has pitched the idea of an expose about a cowboy who advertised on youtube for an e-mail order bride. When she meets Ethan for the first time she thinks maybe her plans can change.

I really liked Ethan and Autumn’s characters. Individually they were great. Ethan’s burden was believable; however I questioned his shunning of modern day electronics. In my opinion Cora Seton did a fantastic job at showing Autumn’s past and the impressions her family left on her and molded her to the woman who came to the ranch. There were a few plot points that were a little too tidy for me, namely their instant attraction – yes I read romance books all the times with an instant spark, but in those the sparks leaps from the page, this attraction didn’t even skip for me. A few characters were angry the entire book, one bordering on vindictive and it wore on me. I wanted Ethan and Autumn to have it out with these characters but it never really happened.

I received this book from the publisher for my honest review; this was the first book in a series. Ethan’s best friend and sister are the main characters in book 2, I may check it out to see how Ethan and Autumn are doing.

Review:

"The Cowboy's E-Mail Order Bride" by Cora Seton was a well written told story of a cowboy and woman who weren't actually looking for love but did find it. The author presented the reader with such a story that will keep you turning the pages with all its twist and turns. I found myself all caught up with the characters because they were all indeed all well developed, real, believable, humorous, colorful, even some with flaws by the end the reader will gets a down right good read that I wasn't able to put down until the end. This author really did a good job and knows how to present a story that will have you on the edge of your seat only wanting more of seeing how these two people manage to find a love based on lies. This author did a wonderful job especially at the end of the read of how the reader will be able to get another feel of the ex-girlfriend. I never saw that one coming! I am not perfectly sure that I liked how 'the friends' brought this all upon their friend Ethan, with this practical joke.... only trying to help him out, however in the end when it all came out....and this is where I will say you will have to pick up "The Cowboy's E-Mail Order Bride" to see how this author will bring it all out to the reader.

I found this novel a delightful romantic erotic western read that was on a journey and in the end after everything is brought out will they find the happiness and love they both needed? Since this is a series I can't wait to get the next novel...The Cowboy Wins A Bride by this author.
