A solid 3.8 stars, I walked into this book without knowing what to expect, but I trust Noriko Ogiwara to write good stories after reading her Japanese Creation Myths YA retelling novels.
The heroine in Red Data Girl is your typical Plain Jane who was raised in a family's shrine, but she is also possessed by a powerful, otherworldly being only known as 'the goddess' (the heroine has little to no control over the goddess' power), in this volume, the heroine had already moved to a boarding school and strange events started to happen all around her. Whilst the heroine is awkward and self-conscious, her roommate is an out-going and active girl who is good at almost everything. But even this out-going, seemingly carefree roommate has a secret or two between her and her twin brother...
The setting about the boarding school and students who can wield different supernatural power and communicate with ghosts/spirits/deities is highly interesting and refreshing, I will go back to read the first two books ASAP.
More fantasy elements and actions in this volume while MC continues her slow path of gaining self confidence. It’s pretty interesting how this book describes the various ways humans interact with the supernaturals.
