I read this trilogy in the 1-3 book format. Wow. It was a tremendous amount of drama and some cockamamy redic plot buster at the end of every chapter. I had it to Jocoby though, I didn't stop reading, I had to know what happened to these freaking idiots. The depth of this book was lacking, the realism was desperately low and without the far fetched dramatics, there wasn't much there. I do give it 2 stars though because it does take a true writer to pack that much into a series. There were quite a few unexpected twists which I like, but I think they were unexpected because it was like being attacked by a tennis ball machine!
This Triology is fully packed with so many issues. The author has tackled various topics consisting of personality insecurity and low confidence which the main character Iris suffers. She always freaks out by consuming too much alcohol and ends up waking with a total stranger whom she picked up in a trendy bar. Ryan her one night stand turns out to be a millionaire who pursues her relentlessly with caring and passion. Unfortunately Iris finds the dark side of Ryan's life . He was married to Alexis and lost a baby and top he is bisexual. Ryan joins a special therapy to sort out his abused childhood and earlier drug addiction. Iris supports him during this treatment and they get married. Their honeymoon is spoiled by paparazzi and new drama by a heiress who is a stalker. Iris is an attorney by profession and she gets kidnapped by that crazy heiress who turns out to be the child molester of Ryan's teens. More drama Iris is induced into a two months coma by her. Iris recovers but more problems crops when she is raped by her bodyguard during the absence of Ryan. Iris is whipped by events and she lost everything and goes into deep depression by taking drugs. Finally Ryan tracks and brings her to a detox therapy. Drama and more drama Ryan in a sleepy haze is intimate with Nathalie believing its Iris. Nathalie pretends to be pregnant and Iris is also pregnant but she is confused who is the father the rapist or her husband. So she asks for divorce and never mentioned being pregnant. Iris moves out of LA to San Francisco and tries to settle being a mum and finds a job. One day she runs into Nick at Starbucks and he forces her to return to Ryan since she has his child. Ryan is more than happy to see his daughter Dalilah . The couple bonds again and the DNA tests proves that Nathalie lied about het pregnancy. Well all goes smoothly until the rapist attacks Iris kid at home and Ryan is shot and has a near death experience and shuts himself in another world. One day he leaves home on a trip of reconciliation with his past and Iris is torn and lost. Dramatically Nick falls on love with Iris and admits that to her. She does not agree and runs to her mother luckily Ryan comes back and they reconciled. This book needs a lot stamina to read.
Wow I think the author did do a good job coming up with touching on a lot of areas which did make a lot of sense! The first book I would have liked to have more of a beginning of how it was started where it did and it was a slow beginning. The second book was much better in my opinion and there were parts where I was on the edge with what Iris went through . Her and Ryan just could not get a break where things just kept coming at them one after another (agree with a review like a tennis ball machine constantly shooting balls at you nonstop) . I can feel Ryan's unconditional love for Iris after all he had been through and he was projected as strong and she was going through a lot ! I can feel their pain . The third book seemed to be more about Ryan and how he had to overcome his own dark path to be entirely devoted to Iris and the family! I do agree with that money and beauty are illusions and that it is what is the inside of person that counts! No matter how much money you have and how beautiful does not mean these people do not have problems as well! I also like that the author touches on sexuality and that their love had the trust in love to keep an open mind and love a person just the same ! Iris also had a side that cracked me up in which I can see why someone would fall in love with her even though she was not rich or a supermodel!
I spent most of book 1 shaking my head and laughing, even though it wasn't a comedy. Ms. Jocoby tries to put way too much into one story with very little reality involved. I get that it is possible for really bad stuff to happen to a person but really? All of this? There is no plausibility. Additionally, she could use some grammar lessons. If I read the word "myself" one more time, I, myself, thought I would scream. Totally used inappropriately. (yes, I intentionally used it wrong!) It seemed she was trying to write sophisticatedly but only came out sound sophomoric.
That said, because book 1 did not really end but rather just stopped, I somehow found the need to read book 2 and then book 3 to see how the ridiculousness ended. So, I guess Ms. Jocoby was successful because I ended up reading all 3 books.
Fortunately, book 2 was better than book 1 and book 3 was way better than book 1. therefore, I gave this series 2 stars as opposed to 1 star.
Iris is a true ginger: temper as fiery as her hair. She goes from a young teen abused by her teacher from a humble, loving family to an ultra wealthy marriage and yacht honeymoon. There were some scream worthy cliffhangers in this. I cried like a baby and laughed for ten minutes straight over some parts. Ryan is classic proof that don't judge a book by its cover: every fashion model handsome, educated, and ultra rich hottie you meet in a bar is not unobtainable. Lucky Iris was drunk out of her mind when she met him or she would never have dared to sleep with him. From this beginning an epic story emerges you'll never forget.
Ok. I don't even know where to start from. These books were so complicated that sometimes i had the feeling that i will loose my mind. So many tragedies...good lord...child abuse, drugs, overdose, rape, murder, suicide attempts, depressions, bi-polars, threesomes... you name it. This book has it all. How many tragedies a person can go through? And stay sane i mean. At some point i had the feeling that i will get depressed myself by the end of the story. It was a little bit too much in my opinion. I would have enjoyed it better if it was written in a more optimist way. But the story was nice overall and it keeps you on the edge from start till finish. I guarantee u won't get bored :)
Iris and Ryan seem to run into everything that can destroy their chance at love. Will it eventually be calm or will they move on without each other!? Ryan has a crazy past that will scare just about anyone off. Iris an attorney that barely makes ends meet has a one night stand with Ryan that she doesn't even remember except for waking up and running out of the hotel room. But just as Ryan's secrets are coming out so is a past Iris buried deep.
I don't even know where to start - poorly written, spineless protagonists (I mean the man if your life - whom you met weeks before - like to get occasional BJs from his male BFF and the girl doesn't blink). . . I could not finish it, it was that painful. Shame, as there were issues brought up thar deserved more depth and they were completely bypassed. Not believable in the least.
