Beta reading for this series gives me an opportunity to read this before everyone else. A lot! After putting it down and coming back to the series with fresh eyes was great. I could appreciate the time that has passed and now Justin's starting university for this installment, Ivy still thinks the worst of him, her protector Bigglesworth is hunting him and the vampire curse is still having a good time with Justin mentally and physically.

The usual suspects cameo appearances to convince Justin continuing to university might be the key to cleaning his incubus-angel blood to keep from turning into a zombie. But the majority of the story centers on Justin and Shelton as they find a couple of clues and intrigues to unravel when they go for Justin's assessment placement test. It also leads to a few boys night out adventures.

Justin gathers new members for his makeshift family, he learns of another sacrifice his father has made for him and he faces off with Bigglesworth. This portion of the prophetic forebearance forces Justin and Ivy to make decisions about each other and finds our intrepid hero embracing his incubus nature

One of the things to like in each installment of this family feud saga is that the characters mature and the twists in everu tale. The series is definitely one that has to be read in order or you will miss some of the gooey goodness throughout although a bit of the previous installment is usually spread in drabbles in the current story.

Check out the latest installment and meet Justin's twisted little sister. *Fangirl Squeal* OK. I'm trying to hold it in, really. One final re-read of the final and I will add a link to my full review.

I was allowed to participate in the Beta read of this book. I was given a free eBook of the final version to review. My thoughts are my own, but I am honestly a total fangirl of this series... an unashamed book pimp in a purple fedora.

Seriously, there's just something here that makes me cling on to the story. I love this world and all the characters, and while 70% in, came to the realisation that when this series finishes, it'll be like a tiny part of me was ripped away. Which is sad, but waiting for the next book is torture. The next title had 'mother' in it, so I hope it has something to do with Justin's mom getting free - i really want a reunion with the mom and dad. Fingers crossed.

The basic summary of this is just Justin at school

-The Bad-
Shelton's attitude sucked but we learned a bit more about him so whatever. You can be an asshole without making certain comments.
Most of the humor in this book relied on Stereotypes.
Drags on
The world building is still not fully fleshed out.
Justin Still needs to grow the hell up, that the fate of the world depends on this fool saddens me
Saw the Bella love confession coming a mile away

-The Good-
I liked Ivy
I liked Morganna
More Angels
Professor MacLean
The Illuminati

Great Read

This yet another great installment in the Overworld series. John Corwin creates a magic world full of strife and adventure. Justin has made it his mission to defy all odds in saving the Overworld community. He brings together “misfits” and the unwanted to do amazing things. Justin really wants to have a relationship with his younger, very powerful sister but she has been poisoned agains him by her grandparents. Justin heads to Magic school only to be attacked and fall into another plot. This is a must read, the series is excellent.

This is the fifth book in the Overworld Chronicles

As in all this authors previous books there's a ton of action a lot of emotional connections between the characters . Wrongs are brought into the light and put to right choices are made between the siblings who don't know of understanding the consequences . And of course Justin has made new allies what's gonna happen next as new revelations are revealed .

Good

Justin and his gang are such a wonderful group of human/nonhuman. They all have their quirks that make us adore them. Out of the newest additions I love the Scottish professor the most, and Cinder is my second favorite, with his quest to become human.

Suffering a bit from "Too Many Characters" syndrome that happens to character-driven longer works. Still enjoying it though.

Good

The ending was abrupt and reminded me of an old readers digest condensed book. The Events were quickly tied together.

Corwin seems to have calmed down a bit on the frenetic pacing. Not only is there a decent gap between the events of the previous book and this one, but the activity doesn't bounce from one crisis to another.

This book has Justin going to Arcane college, etc. Most of his ever-expanding entourage follows him there, but the biggest surprise for him is that his sister Ivy is attending. Between that, being hunted by Mr. Bigglesworth, and an impending apocalyptic crisis, Justin is busy.

This book does a lot to flesh out the context of the conflict Justin's caught in. The result is that a lot of it is infodumps, so this book moves much slower than previous installments in the series. I actually liked the wealth of information and slower pace, but people who are following the series may not appreciate the slowing.

The conversations and interactions with Ivy also slow the pace down, but they're very well-written and emotionally poignant given the kids' history and everything going on.

Note that slow-er doesn't mean slow. There is still plenty of fighting and action with Bigglesworth, as well as a bunch of new arcane opponents.

I like the mix Corwin has established here, and I hope the books in the series continue in this vein.

This book was much longer than the others in this series (By over 100 pages), so far. And it redeemed the series for me!! After the last book I was debating whether or not to continue with this series. I was pleasantly surprised to really enjoy this installment in the series. I like how the story is playing out and moving. The new information that is being given feels worth something... it carries weight. The character's growth is being done very well. There is plenty of action and twists in the story.

Disclaimer: I am one of John Corwin's beta readers, not for any reason other than I love his books.

The Overworld Chronicles continues with Justin trying to bring his family together. The problem is that Ivy, his little sister is very powerful and has been raised in a very unconventional way and believes her big brother is EVIL. Will Justin be able to convince Ivy that he isn't evil and stay ahead of the truly evil Seraphim? You'll have to read to find out.

Honestly each one of the books in this series on its own barely earns three stars. Character reactions and dialogue are sometimes so unrealistic that I barely make myself read further but the overall story and premise are interesting and intriguing enough that I'll probably end up reading entire series before I start on something else. It's just the way my brain works... I have to know how it ends.
