I received this in a give-a-way through Goodreads. Unfortunately, many distractions have kept me from reading the entire book yet. The parts that I have had the opportunity to peruse have been informative. I am sure it will be a competent guide when it is time for us to utilize the well thought out content.

Over the years I have written many applications for small grants, but I've been a bit nervous about the really large grants because of the intense competition for those funds. Dr. Vaughan has written a wonderful step-by-step guide for the process of grant writing with review panels in mind. Each phase of the application is broken down and explained from the reviewer's point-of-view. Everything from how a review panel is assembled, to the reviewer's role, and the review process is laid out for the reader. Then the steps for applying for funds are thoroughly shown, from choosing the right grantor to following up after the review panel's response; it is all spelled out with examples from Dr. Vaughan's own experiences (as both an applicant and a reviewer).

I really appreciate that the author took the time to share the knowledge and wisdom he has gained through his involvement in grant writing. The additional resources he offers in the back of the book and on his blog, "The Reviewer's Eye," are very helpful. Whether you are just getting started on your first grant application, or are looking to improve your existing skills - this is a guide that I would definitely recommend. I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Reviewer Focused Grant Writing through Goodreads, and I am so glad that I did. Vaughan gives the reader a glimpse of the proposal process from a reviewer's perspective which is helpful in seeing what the reviewer may be looking for or what will make your proposal stand out from the reviewer end. Vaughan provides the reader with tips of what moves a proposal from Some Merit to Very Fundable. I liked how the book was set up with the author going into details about each section with helpful hints but also having a handy action section at the end of each chapter going over the highlights of the chapter as well as a handy reference checklist of what to do before you submit. Overall I found this book to be extremely helpful and would definitely recommend checking it out if you need help with making your proposals stand out.
