In this seductive new novella from New York Times bestselling author Sydney Landon, Mia Gentry refuses to give up her independence—until Seth Jackson shows her just how hot losing control can be...

Living the life of a rich socialite was never in Mia's plans, much to the chagrin of her wealthy parents. She's made her own way, studying computer science at Brown and snagging a coveted position with Danvers International after graduation. Her plan to avoid parental involvement seems to be going well until her mother buys her a date at a charity auction—with the hot resort owner who she's been eyeing on her latest work project.

Seth never mixes business with pleasure, but something about Mia drives him to distraction. Giving into his desires for just one night will hopefully clear his head enough to keep his hands off her during office hours.

DNF, H cheated IMO

Narrative/writing was also amateurish but still I may try this author again bcos her h's had a libido before the H and seemed to value being a part of the sisterhood - both positives for me!

Betting on You by Sydney Landon is a companion novella to her popular Danvers -series. To me, this novella didn't match the full novels in this series at all, but it's still a fairly good quick escape from real life.

We have met Seth previously as Beth's date from her online dating service. Seth thought he and Beth could have started something, but as you might know/remember Ever since then, Seth has been focused on his career, that's until the superhot geeky Mia Gentry walks in his door. There's an instant attraction and lust between the two. They fall into bed, but how can they make it work when Mia is currently working for Nick?

My ♥ and  ☹ for Betting on You:
Quick escape: This novella is perfect for a quick escape from reality. It took me almost no time at all to read and it's a sweet and short read. It's perfect to read if you have an hour you want to pass.

Instalove and generally rushed: Since it's a shortie, the whole set up feels way too rushed. The plot is pretty standard for a lot the romance books out there, but pressed into 1/3 of the normal lengths of these books. Since it's all compressed into a novella and felt too rushed, I had a hard time connecting with either of the characters and I doubt I'll remember them for long.

In my opinion, the series didn't necessarily need this addition to it. I would rather have waited for the next full novel. However, Betting on You is an enjoyable read if you take it for what it is, a novella.

*insert fart noise* <--THAT is my opinion of this book. Up until now these books had been getting 4 and 5 star reviews from me, and I was so excited for another Danvers book - only to read this one, and see that he cheats on her. And for those who say what he did isn't cheating, and there's nothing wrong with what he did, please ask yourselves: If he was doing nothing wrong, why did he feel so guilty even before it happened? Huh?
He felt guilty because he betrayed her. They may have not slept together for a month while they worked together but lets face it, they were dating, they had feelings for each other and he knew the day after she would be back with him again sexually, but could he wait or admit his feelings like a real man? No. and I absolutely despise cheating!! Had it been any other series I wouldn't have even given it 2 stars it makes me so angry.

**3.5 Stars**

Betting on You was a fun and easy read; it was fast paced so you can count on this story to move along quickly without dragging. There was also a nice development of the characters which I enjoyed. Mia and Seth had a nice mix of chemistry and compatibility which was nice to read about. The sex was also steamy and well-written. I was actually taken by surprise at how hot the sex was...not that I'm complaining. I was just expecting less heat for some reason.

So why a 3.5 star rating? Well, Betting On You could have easily been a 4 star read for me. Yet, the ending felt rushed in my opinion which didn't flow well with the rest of the story. Thus, due to this reason it brought the rating down a bit for me.

Overall, Betting on You was a good read. I enjoyed the writing, the plot and the characters. This is one I would recommend to romance readers looking for a fun, light and sexy read with little drama involved.

A copy of this book was provided by the publisher for an honest review at Seductive Musings.

Although BETTING ON YOU is the latest entry in Sydney Landon’s popular Danvers series, the connection between its hero and heroine with the rest of the series is tenuous, at best.

Seth is the charming and successful local businessman from FALLING FOR YOU (book 3) who was used by Beth to make Declan jealous after their relationship-ending fight. Mia is a new character to the series, introduced as an IT specialist working for Danvers on an installation project for Seth’s office. She moves in the same circles as Seth, thanks to her own family’s placement in local society, but is determined to make her own way in the world and not be dependent on them, or any man they might recommend.

When Seth and Mia first meet in the room where Mia is installing computers, their instant connection is obvious, but both choose to try to overlook it for sanity’s sake. But when Mia’s mother uses her charity bachelor auction to throw Seth at Mia in a way she can’t ignore, the result is some incredibly hot sexual encounters that neither of them wish to end. Yet their liaison would be a real threat to Mia’s hard-won job at Danvers for as long as Seth is still a client on the project she leads. They both agree to hold off until the office installation is complete, but during that time, Seth starts having doubts about what Mia might be expecting once they can be together again. Can a real relationship work between them, or is it just too much, too soon?

There’s no denying that Sydney Landon can write great sex scenes between characters that we want to root for. But what was missing for me in BETTING ON YOU was a sense that the hero and heroine really wanted this future for themselves. Seth, especially, was a great disappointment to me in both word and deed. He was the one who had pushed Mia into what he was certain they both wanted, and assured her their desire was mutual. Yet the minute he had to cool his jets and wait until it was safe for both of them, he started behaving like someone who had really just been looking for sex all along, despite everything he’d been saying. Mia seemed more grounded and realistic about what their relationship had actually been, and was hurt by Seth’s behavior but prepared to move on with her life. Yet when he finally realized that he needed to make things right with her, it seemed like her forgiveness was just a little too easily given.

All the problematic elements of this story including the insta-lust and the rushed ending could have been avoided with a longer story, but this is a novella, and those are the traps so many of them fall into. For me, BETTING ON YOU was a nice quick love story with some very well-written sex scenes, but I’m hoping that any future Danvers books will take the time needed to establish a more enjoyable and plausible happy ending for everyone.

What starts off as a date bought by her mother turns into something wonderful only if he realizes that there could be more between them.

I like a book that grabs my attention from the start. Sure this is just a novella and they are usually short but it was still a great read. Since I read Fighting for You I have been addicted to the Danvers Series and have been trying to catch up in the series. So I was fortunate to get an ARC of the latest book of Ms. Landon and believe me I wasn’t disappointed. Mia was a spitfire; she had sass, and a great sense of humor. Then there is Seth a billionaire bachelor that needs a smack on the back of his head for not realizing his feelings for Mia.

I love that the story is in both of their POV’s and that the pace was perfect. Seth has knows that someone from Danvers will be coming to work on the latest project at Oceanix Resort. He hopes that Beth will not be the one showing up but after he sees Mia he changes his mind. Mia can’t believe the hunk of man that she is working with but what she least expected was having her mother buy him for her at a charity event. I could not believe it as I was reading it. When they go out for dinner they both have a little too much to drink and one thing leads to another.

Mia can’t believe she was caught with Seth but worse of all she couldnt remember everything that happened during dinner. Since he is a client she needs to tell Seth that they can’t see each other romantically again until the project is done. Seth knows that she is right but he wants her in a bad way but he actually finds himself having breakfast and lunch with her. They have a great time together but that ends when someone enters his life again.

This was a well written book and it flowed smoothly. The characters were amazing. I loved how Mia and her mother’s relationship flourished. I loved Seth’s secretary, Margie she was a hoot. I was engrossed in the story and felt the characters emotions even if they are imaginary characters. Now as for the chemistry that Seth and Mia had was smokin’ hot.

I highly recommend this book for any reader!

4, but could have been 5 star review

Mia is a socialite who has never embraced the life. She has gone to college and worked hard at Danvers in it's IT department. She has been assigned a great project working at Oceanix Resort. Her contact their is Seth Jackson. The two are definitely attracted to each other and due to some meddling on her mother's part, Mia finds herself sharing an intimate meal with Seth. Due to the work situation, further interactions are almost strictly business and both are anticipating project completion. Just like any other great romance novel, there is a major mistake before the two get their chance at the HEA.

The sexual chemistry between the two is amazing and I loved reading it. I have never read any of the other books in the Danvers series and I don't feel it put me at a disadvantage. There may have been more familiarity with Seth and some other characters like Suzy who shows up briefly in the story, but once again, I still felt I could fully appreciate the story.

The other characters in this story are great. Margie, Seth's assistant injected some humor into the story and I loved her no nonsense way of dealing with Seth. Hank, Mia's boss was supportive and I loved his conversation with her regarding her dinner meeting with Seth.

Another bonus was the length of this story. Although it is a novella, I found there was a lot of substance and read more like a regular novel for me. So with all this love I have for this book, you may wonder why I only went with 4 stars. Well because I was totally disappointed with the ending. Literally I was fuming as I read it and I couldn't believe that was all there was. Seriously. The ending seem to come out of left field, and after the hurt Mia felt, I can't believe that was all it took. I mean really, kinky sex is what is gonna bring them back to each other?? So yes, I really enjoyed this story right up until the 90% mark. If you have read other books in this story I think you will enjoy this one, and even if you hadn't you most likely will still enjoy this. Just take my warning that the ending may be a let down.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Seriously how the hell did I miss this one?

We quickly met Seth Jackson during Beth and Nick's story during an hilarious yet brief dinner organised through a dating site. Once Seth found out Beth was pregnant with Nick 's baby he shot out of the restaurant and away from anything Danvers.

That is until his family decides to upgrade their systems at Oceanix resort and it is given to Danvers to build. Enter Mia Gentry, one of the best from Danvers to head up their upgrade. Mia comes from money but loves her job, and the fact that she got it all on her own. She also didn't expect to find head of Oceanix gorgeous.

With flirty conversation over lunch and an unwelcome visit from her parents she finds out Seth is going to be up for auction for a charity. Knowing Seth will be there, Mia puts a little more into getting ready. Watching as women fawn over him and bid like crazy Mia finds it midly amusing and just a little jealous, until she discovers the mystery bidder is her mother's assistant and the date is bought for Mia. Humiliated, she must face Seth at The Ivy, a very upmarket restaurant, after explaining what her mother had done, they fall into a fun flirty night out, that ends in alcohol induced touches and a sex filled night with Seth at his beach house.

The following morning she enters Oceanix with a extra bounce in her step, but knowing she cannot do anything else with Seth until after the installation is complete, and being caught out by Suzy and Gray Merimon ( who just happens to be her crush and idol) she asks Seth to wait for her.

Seth can't get Mia out of his head, a simple roll in the hay wasn't enough, so he'll wait for her. He has to know what the GO is with this gorgeous woman, she is in his mind, clearly in his pants and everywhere. Seth just didn't expect ex casual fling, Ashley to turn not only his world but everything he has/ had with Mia.

Now he must win her back, but with her not answering her phone, not at work and him pissed as hell with everyone he enlists the help of Suzy to get his girl back. Seth has never had to work this hard for any woman, but it seems Mia is certainly not any woman, she is his woman.

Sadly the only thing I didn't like about this book was it wasn't long enough. I want more Seth and Mia.

ROMANTIC COMEDY…MAN YOU LIKE GETS AUCTIONED…MOM BUYS DATE!

Betting On You is the novella following the fourth novel, Fighting For You, in the Danvers series in which could be read as a standalone novel too. Betting On You left me wanting more than just a novella, Sydney Landon’s Danvers series is WONDERFUL and always ready to read any of her novels.

Betting On You is about Seth Jackson a striking billionaire bachelor who shuns from relationships, until he meets Mia Gentry. Mia works for Danvers International and has been assign to work on a project at Oceanix Resort to install a security system. When the beautiful sassy smart-mouth techie starts talking about IT equipment, Seth could not help of thinking indecent thoughts nor control his body’s reaction towards Mia.

“I’m going over your equipment now. Do you want to keep your hard drive? I can dispose of it, but some people are funny about that.” - Mia

Although Mia is a techie and currently employed, Mia comes from a privilege and posh upbringing. Mia prides herself for finishing her college education and obtaining a profession without the affluence of her family. Mia discovers that Seth is participating in a charity bachelor auction for the new children’s hospital and will be auction off to the highest bidder. The charity just happens to be the charity her mother is organizing, who knew that Seth and her parents ran with the same circles of acquaintances. Seth volunteering for the event has Mia realizing that he may be more than an instantaneous physical attraction, but maybe something more. Mia is now starting to feel jealousy, because other women were bidding on Seth and all she could think was that some cougar was going to go out on a date with Seth.

“Your mother bought me?” - Seth

Betting On You is a FUNNY LOVE STORY that will capture your attention immediately on the adventures with Seth and Mia. Sydney Landon’s novella, Betting On You, will have you laughing uncontrollably.

I rate Sydney Landon’s novella in the Danvers series, Betting On You - 4 AMAZING STARS!

The biggest problem with Sydney Landon's Betting on You was that it was a novella. Greedy readers, such as myself, will just want more. Such is the calibre and talent of Sydney Landon. So, be prepared to strap yourself in for a short, sweet, a little naughty and sexy romp.

Seth Jackson is one of those gorgeous, ostensibly quiet and reserved Heros. He had a previous, brief entanglement with Danvers International, and would soon meet a woman who would knock him for six, both in and out of the bedroom. Due to his instant attraction to Mia, it surprised him when even geeky words like equipment and hard drive turned him on.

Mia Gentry was my type of heroine. She was sassy, smart, confident, complete with a wicked sense of humor. Coming from a privileged background had caused her to want to prove herself to the world, particularly in her number one love, computer science.

Both Mia and Seth wanted to be acknowledged for who they were, not the wealth from which they came. Previous relationships had left them jaded and cautious. Working in close contact with each other, and a charity auction where Seth is auctioned off, forces the sparks to fly between Mia and Seth. And you will absolutely love those sparks. Things are not always as clearly defined as what they think though, so, be prepared for a little predictable tension and drama.

Written with Landon's cleverly descriptive prose, scenes were deliciously schmexy, the dialogue witty, real and fast paced, and new characters were smoothly assimilated, given enough airtime to cause you to adore them. (I hope we hear more about Margie. Loved her!)

Betting on You was a really sweet sidestep from the series, which added an extra dimension to the fabulous Danvers family. You can read it as a stand-alone, but, seriously, why would you? Landon fans will be devouring this novella because she wrote it. New fans will be thoroughly impressed and eager to start at the very beginning, Weekends Required. My only complaint? I just wanted more! Told you - greedy!

Thank you for an ARC for an honest review. No compensation was received for this review.

Betting on You, Danvers #4.5, by Sydney Landon
Grade: B

“I’m going to make a pitcher of margaritas. We can drink too much and insult the men in our life.”

Mia has spent her life trying to make something of herself without the help of her parent’s money. Landing a job at Danvers International is a dream for Mia and she has slowly worked her way up in the company. On a routine job Mia meets Seth the owner of the hotel she is installing a new security program for. Sparks fly between these two and Mia soon realizes that what she’s been missing in her life is him. Unable to date until the job is over these two take the time to get to know one another and Mia finds herself falling out of lust and into love with Seth.

I am a very big fan of the Danvers series but was a little hesitant because I didn’t know Seth or Mia. I should have known better because this is Sydney Landon we are talking about and she rarely disappoints. This is a short novella but it could be read as a stand alone with no problem and is a great edition to the Davers series. I have a hard time with novellas since they are so short, but I felt that this one didn’t try to cram the love story into one hundred pages and make things happen in a very short time period. This was one of the better ones that I’ve read due to the fact that everything flows at a great pace and the romance doesn’t feel forced.

I loved Mia and Seth right from the beginning and they waste no time burning up the pages with their combustible chemistry. I had a little issue with Seth at the end and with how much he fought his feelings for Mia but luckily he pulled his head out of his butt and got it together. Mia is a great character and I loved that she not only deals with her relationship with Seth but also her mother. Mia is my favorite of all the Danver’s women next to Suzy, which seems fitting since Suzy is Mia’s idol. My only issue with Mia was at the end and I felt that she forgave a little too easily but other than that I really enjoyed this book.

3.5 Flirty Stars!!!

Source: eARC for Honest Review from Intermix/Penguin via NetGalley

I absolutely adore the Danvers series and this novella was a perfection addition to the series.

It was a quick fun read with some new characters.

Seth was briefly in book 3 Fall For Me but here he is the main character. A typical billionaire bachelor ladies man who was looking for a relationship but once burned by Beth so is a little gun shy. But the minute he sees Mia bent over he and his little buddy are instantly alert.

Mia likes to have fun and when she meets Seth she knows he would be good to have an affair with just not a relationship especially with the work conflict. But meddling outside sources helps them bridge the attraction to one another only to have to come to a halt because of work. The work deadline is near giving them the green light until Seth screws up BIG time.

Sometimes novellas are hit and miss but with this one it had a good pace with the emotions and relationship development. My only let down was after Seth's screw up I felt the resolution phase between Mia and Seth was too quick and a bit swept over but otherwise it was a sweet Danver's story.

A fun and funny romp (pun intended) involving Seth, owner of Oceanix Resorts and Mia, assigned to replace the Communications Systems for Oceanix. Seth had been expecting an awkward reunion with a woman he used to date... who was now pregnant by another man, but he happens upon open, flirty Mia, his mind settles on more than business.

From here, the story is predictable... sort of. Boy and girl like each other; Boy participates in a charity auction; girl's mother buys boy for her daughter, because the attraction is obvious. Seth and Mia are soon involved in a tawdry affair but (there's always a but) there's fear of becoming more. Why is there always fear of becoming more? If I had to describe women based on modern romances lately, I'd peg them as women who wan't all of the sex but none of the picking up his socks off of the floor; all of the elegant dinners out, none of the picking cheese off of the wrappers of fast food burgers. So much glitz, no hard work. But hey, that's cool.

When Mia finds Seth in a compromising position, it seems her fears are well founded and she, of course runs. Cue the hunky man not being able to live his life without this spunky ray of sunshine, bim bam boom... I'll let you all fill in the steamy blanks.

This was a fun afternoon read, a novella so the action starts quickly and strikes hot without dragging scenes on and on. WRiting is okay, but why do rich people call their loved ones darling? That's the stiffest greeting I can think of.

I'm a big fan of Sydney Landon's Danvers series and the only thing wrong with Betting on You is that it was a novella!

Seth Jackson is a man who doesn't like entanglements. He's good at his job, has more money than most know what to do with and is drop dead gorgeous. His life is moving along just as he likes it, leaving him totally unattached, until Mia Gentry comes along to install a security system.

For Mia, she has always been a tech geek that grew up with parents who wanted her to do anything but follow her passion due to their privileged background. She loves the job she has at Danvers International because it is something she got on her own, not on the merits of her family. She's smart, sassy and is instantly attracted to Seth.

After a crafty intervention due to a charity auction, Seth and Mia get to know one another better, not to mention the close confines they are working in on a day to day basis at Seth's hotel. After some complications arise for Mia at work, their budding connection has to take a backseat until the completion of the project.

Landon does a fantastic job of telling this story in such a way that you are gripped from the beginning and you don't want to put it down. As I said at the beginning of this review, I wish it had been longer, but what we did get, was a homerun in my opinion. I can't wait for Landon's next novel!

Betting on You is a story I really enjoyed. I really like Mia (and her shoes), which you will understand when you read the novel. Mia and Seth were both introduced in previous books in the series, and though I've not read them all yet, and have read them out of order, it was easy to follow along, as they read as companion novels and not really sequels.

Mia's character is really fun and I enjoyed her a lot. Her inner rants were hilarious at times. I also liked Seth. He seemed a little insecure in the beginning, again with himself, something he camouflaged well though. Actually, they both did, but boy when things heat up, he reveals a dominant and sexy side that shows what he's really made of. There is a lot of sexual tension between the two, as there are rules against Danvers employees having relationships with the clients they work for, and Mia is working for Seth, but that just makes everything more interesting. There is some drama and some hurt feelings, but the romance is really great, and built up over the time they spent together during their "no touching" period when Mia was working for Seth.

Betting on You is a wonderful novella, and though short, feels very complete. I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.

What a great addition to the Danvers series! I had forgotten about Seth from Nick & Beth's story, and I really enjoyed reading about him and Mia. This was a fast-paced novella, and a quick read for me. These characters had great chemistry from the moment they met, and they had a hard time denying it. Working together caused them to hold back on the physical side of things, despite the tension that resides between them. But, this results in them actually getting to know each other and finding something more than just sex. Unfortuantely, Seth's in denial and things don't go well. Go figure. A man who doesn't want to admit that he may want more from a woman than her body. I really enjoyed the torture he goes through when trying to get a hold of Mia to apologize. Every man needs to sweat it out once in awhile over their lady. It helps keep them on their toes. You should check this out. You don't have to read all the others in the series before you do, but I love them and think you should anyway. :)

This is the story of Mia and Seth. Seth was first introduced in Beth's story. Beth went on date with Seth only for it to end with Nick interrupting and spilling the beans of Beth being pregnant with his child.

Mia is a new character. She's quirky, independent, and self confident. She works in the tech department at Danvers. She gets put on a job at the resort Seth owns and there is an instant connection. Her wealthy parents see the two on a friendly lunch and Mia's mother launches a plan to get those two together. Mia has to go on a real date with Seth after her mom wins him in a bachelor auction. That date turns into a steamy night of sex. But they couldn't do anything more until the Danvers job is done. After a month the job is complete and Mia goes to make her move only to find out Seth is hanging out with an ex friends with benefits. Things ended badly, both are heartbroken and Seth has to work to get back in Mia's good graces. Like any romance novel it all ends happily.

Ok, so the writing for this book is a 5, but because of the ending, I have to make it a 3.

I may have gone into this a little annoyed because I did not know it was a novella, I paid $3.79 then I find out its 90 pages. But I like this series, so I figured what the hell, at least I know I won't be disappointed. I was wrong, but let me explain. I was not disappointed in the writing or the story for the first 80% of the book. The author did a wonderful job setting the scene, building the story and it worked. I have to say, I liked these two characters a lot. But then, there's a conflict that was resolved in the worst way possible, and boom! It ends. HEA. Wtf? Not even an epilogue. Nothing. There's no real sense of closure.

I just don't get it. I'm guessing this was the publishers doing. I can't see it being ok wih a publisher had it not been their idea.

I feel very bad, because I enjoy this author a great deal. I would love to see what she can do if she self publishes.

I just finished reading “Betting on You” by the amazing Sydney Landon. This Novella of Sydney’s is another great book in the Danvers’ series! You will love the story of Mia and Seth. Seth Jackson is an amazingly handsome billionaire who hires someone from Danvers to work on the latest project at Oceanix Resort. When Mia Gentry shows up sparks begin to fly between the two of them. Both thinking they have to keep this relationship on a business level, never expect Mia’s manipulative mother to buy a date with Seth for Mia at a charity auction! After many drinks, the evening turns into one amazing night for this couple!! You can only imagine what happens when they are expected to work together and not mix business with pleasure! WOW this is another spectacular book in true Landon style! If you have not read any of the Danvers’ series, you are really missing out. You will love this book and Sydney Landon’s writing style!!!

"Her mother bought her a man." That was part of the fun and awkwardness that was the catalyst for Seth and Mia's first date. I enjoyed the twist on the charity bachelor auction. I enjoyed that Mia, despite growing up rich, chose to make it on her own at Danvers. Seth's banter with his assistant, Margie, made him seem fun. Mia and Seth together were hot!! Definitely sexy scenes. And the twist with Mia's mom added depth to this novella. Suzy has her outrageous, outspoken say to help the two get together.

It would have been great if this were longer. I liked Margie, Seth's assistant, and I hope she gets her own HEA storyline in a future book. Maybe there will be more in the series for Seth's brothers. It can be read as a standalone, but is even better if you read the rest of the Danvers series.

It was cool seeing Seth's personality since we didn't get to see much of it after Nick dropped the we-live-together-and-she's-pregnant-with-my-child bomb on his date with Beth. At first, I was disappointed, wondering who the !$&@! is Seth but after figuring it out I was a little more intrigued. I liked the book but not as much as any of the other ones. I wasn't into it as much at all. I felt like it progressed really fast - one day they're talking, the next they're doing the do and then all of a sudden fast forward a month. I guess I didn't really get enough time to get to know them like the other characters. Also, the repetitive writing across the series has to stop. The guys all saying "If you touch me, it'll be over sooner than either of us wants" in some form or another is no longer a sweet, vulnerable, damn-i'm-good moment. But overall it was a good book. Not great, but good.

Sydney rocks the Danvers world with this novella! Mia is a RIOT! "She stepped off at the sixth floor into the hub of the installation and support department for Danvers International. This place was heaven for a geek such as herself."

I love that Mia has a girl crush on the abrasive and sassy, Suzy. Here idolizing that woman just makes me giggle. And then how Seth meets her is too funny also. "When she continued to shimmy and kept singing , "I'm sexy and I know it," he thought he had possibly died and gone to heaven."

You might remember Seth from dating Beth in a previous novel. I liked him. (Just not for her!) Seth's assistant reminds me of Suzy in the sense that she has no filter. :There are more hormones raging in this office between you two than in a strip club at happy hour."

Sydney writes such fun romances and I cannot get enough of Danvers International!!!
