சிவத்தம்பி மிகுந்த தன்னம்பிக்கைவாதி. நளினமான அவன் கை விரல்கள் பலவிதங்களிலும் வித்தை காட்டும். காகிதத்தில் பறவை செய்வான். சாக்கட்டியில் உருவங்கள் செதுக்குவான். நேர்த்தியாக ஓவியம் வரைவான். அன்பான மனைவி, அழகான மகள் மற்றும் ஏழ்மையினால் ஆனது அவனது சிறிய குடும்பம். நிரந்தரமாக ஒரு வேலை தேடுபவனுக்கு சோப்புத் தூள் தயாரிக்கும் கம்பெனியில் சேல்ஸ்மேன் வேலை கிடைக்கிறது. ஆனால் அதற்கு டெபாஸிட் பணம் ஐநூறு ரூபாய் தேவை. சிவத்தம்பி தன் கைகளின் சாதுர்யத்தால் தேவையான பணம் சேர்த்துவிடுகிறான். ஆனால் அதைக் கொண்டுபோய் கம்பெனியில் கட்டும்முன் ஒரு விபரீத சம்பவம் நிகழ்ந்துவிடுகிறது.

About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

Sivathambi who is a confident person who do small works, painting etc. One day he met with an accident and lost his both hands (Amputation). Though he decides to commit suicide, story ends with decides to live and back to his painting work without hands.

The book "kai" emphasizes on the importance of having hands. As usual sujatha takes trip on its industry introducing "oregamy", "prosthesis", "Phantom limb". The strong message I felt is, No one loses any body part as long as hope stays alive in him. Book was very short of about 64 pages and finished in 2 hours. Great refreshment and thought provoking!!!
