Steven Dunbar gets the news that an old friend, Dr Simone Ricard of Medicins Sans Frontieres, has died in an accident while attending a scientific meeting in Prague. She and her team have been working to eradicate polio in the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan and have discovered a possible reason for their failure to do so - fake teams put in by the CIA. She has gone to Prague to publicise this but the meeting organisers won't let her speak - they already know the reason and have accepted the CIA apology. They think it will only make matters worse if wider publicity is sought.

A hard to put down thriller

Basic stuff about the ugly world of biological warfare. Including the usual suspects CIA, MI5, MI6, and some other bodies of nice, dedicated people. All meaning well and achieving mostly something else.
The Special Forces is naturally more on the right side - as it always is with Navy seals and such elite groups; they're beyond suspect and evil purposes. Alte Kameraden and so on.

The story was quite straightforward and simple. Well written with short chapters. Easy to digest and easy to forget. There are twelve in the dozen of these :-) But alright in its genre anyway.

It would be easy to pinpoint a couple of illogicalities but why bother, they're not important.
But one thing I often wonder: Don't these heroes ever watch movies?! They always tend to miss the fact that family and other important persons should be protected to avoid blackmail. How unprofessional is it to forget that?

I'm sure I'll read other Steven Dunbar thrillers too if I happen to see them around.

This is a partially medical thriller. Partially espionage suspense book. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Would sure enjoy it much more if I had the time to read it in less than a week. Will certainly look for more book from Ken McClure
