THE CHANCE OF A LIFETIME One minute, Karin Davis was working a dead end job at a high-end retail clothing store in Santa Clara, California. The next, she is interning at Emperor Technologies - the hottest company in the world. That life-changing opportunity comes with a big string attached - she must keep a secret of a high-level company executive. A secret that causes Karin to walk on eggshells, isolated away from the gossipy interns with Ivy League pedigrees.
CALLED TO THE CEO'S SUITE Karin's discreet behavior earns her an opportunity to work on a super-secret project within Emperor's inner sanctum. The overwhelmed 21-year old now finds herself working directly with Ryan Wilde, Emperor Technologies' bad-boy billionaire CEO.
AN OUTRAGEOUS PROPOSAL With a net worth of over $20 billion dollars, Ryan Wilde is used to doing things his way. Something that gets the uninhibited CEO in increasing trouble with his shareholders. Facing consternation for his increasingly outrageous behavior, the bad boy of Silicon Valley decides to pull his biggest stunt yet - settle down in a "sham marriage" to silence his critics. The 36-year old billionaire turns his attention on "that cute, little, quiet intern." Ryan's proposal to Karin is simple, "Pretend to be married to me for one year and you'll be set for life." Now, Karin finds herself with two life-changing opportunities. And two major secrets to keep.
THE ACCIDENTAL HONEYMOON As Ryan and Karin plan their sham marriage, something unexpected happens - a smile, a kiss, a hot & heavy romp during their "pretend Honeymoon." Can a "fake marriage" survive a genuine relationship? Or will Karin's life-changing world come crashing down around her?
"The Accidental Honeymoon" is a 55,000 word romance novel.
I had high hopes for the story as the synopsis won me over, but there were just too many plot holes/inconsistencies after reading it.
Characters The characters didn't seem to quite match how they're portrayed. You have Karin who's a sweet, shy girl who does things out of the ordinary like get in a cat fight with a Russian model and go to some sex club without being really freaking out as much as I thought she would. I know it's possible to be shy and also be able to stand up for yourself, but instigating the cat fight didn't seem like something Karin would do. As for the sex club thing, yes she did blush and was worried about what others would think, but I thought she'd be pretty prude about it since this is the first time she's introduced to this kind of thing.
As for Ryan, he was a little more childish than I expected him to be. I know that's intentional since he's supposed to be seen as an immature CEO, but I think it did a little too well in showing how childish he is. It felt like I was reading from the perspective of a teenager rather than a CEO that just knows how to work hard and play hard. Also, he didn't really seem to come off as a bad boy at all. Sure we're told about his wild parties and crazy nights with the ladies, but it's not the same when we just hear about it then actually see it play out.
Tor was the worse of them all. Alice did a great job portraying him as a disgusting douchecanoe, but, like with Ryan, I think it was a bit overboard. There were a few things that were a bit out of character for him. One was that joke he made about the Indian intern guy. For a guy who makes millions in the tech industry, you think he'd know that Indians and terrorist jokes aren't correlated whatsoever.
Romance Wasn't really sold on it. I could see the potentials of a crush, but as for falling in love, I couldn't see it. I think the romance wasn't as developed as it could have been because we're reading a narration in third person omniscient so it's hard to fit in so much romance when we're jumping from so many different POVs.
Other Plot Holes As one of the reviewers mentioned below, it is very unlikely that Karin would be hired. Yes she did a good deed and I know that if she didn't return that phone and leaked it it would have done major damage for Scott, but I don't think it's enough to give her an internship at a firm that strictly requires knowledge. Also, Karin's marriage to Ryan didn't seem as necessary as the summary made it out to be. Never in the story is it mentioned that one of the CEOs or reporters talk about, "Oh he's married? He must be fit to runs company!" Ryan gets that credit for just being a good CEO, not because he decided to settle down.
Overall, the story didn't really do it for me. The 2 stars are because it wasn't bad writing and I did find myself occasionally enjoying the story. However, I wouldn't really recommend the story if you're looking for a story with a well strung plot.
This was a good romance story. Its about Ryan Wilde, the young CEO of Emperor Industries and a billionaire. Karin a young intern in the company meets Ryan and they hit it off. Ryan is a jetsetter and likes new woman all the time. The board thinks this is the wrong impression to make on a big company that Ryan wants to merge with. He comes up with the idea of getting married for a year to impress the board. He thinks Karin would be the one to marry so he talks to her. They enter into a contract for the marriage. What lies ahead for this couple. Read this one it is a good read
My thoughts after reading "The Accidental Honeymoon":
1 I hate that it's short. I wish that this is a trilogy or something. 2. Fast pacing!! 3. I love Karin and Ryan 4. There are errors and the writing is somewhat confusing 5. My 100th read book for this year which also completes my 2013 goodreads challenge. 6. Although the title is catchy, I just don't think that it's the best title for this book.
This book would have been better if the author could have just called people by their names... the lead female was called Karen sometimes but was more often referred to as the young intern then the young wife... the main male was the ceo and other nick names but rarely his own name.. kind of got annoying
Luck and honesty get Karin an internship at Emperor Technologies where her plan is to stick it out for six months to gain a reference while there she comes into contact with CEO and billionaire wiz kid and playboy Ryan Wilde, Ryan has been receiving some bad press lately revolving around models and sex, pressure is being applied to have him removed as CEO. As explained in the blurb a sham marriage deal is struck at the end of the allotted time the marriage will be annulled and Karin will receive ten million dollars. I really liked this story, the characters and everything apart from the strange almost robotic writing style, you have to read it to fully appreciate what I mean but throughout the book Karin is referred to as 'the intern' 'the engaged intern' 'the young girl' 'the young woman' 'Ryan's wife' 'the young wife' and Ryan as 'the CEO' 'the young man' 'the young CEO' 'the young billionaire' 'the youthful billionaire' etc it makes it very difficult to read and become involved with the characters. I'm not giving anything away since we know from the blurb they get married but this is from their honeymoon sex scene "Ryan builds an intensity that the young woman has never felt in her life" I can't for the life of me understand why it's written this way, it's Karin his new wife and this is their first intimate scene why refer to her as the young woman it's so remote and impersonal, this happens throughout the book it's bizarre, if it wasn't for this and the fact that it needs proof reading this could be a very good book.
I had high hopes for this book after reading the book description but was left very disappointed. It was like the author was trying to tell too many stories in a short amount of time. The book is underdeveloped.
1.The multitude of typos was extremely annoying.
2.Character development was lacking and inconsistent.
3. Scenes were rushed and not fully developed.
4. The so called romance was rushed so it was unrealistic. You never felt any real love between the two main characters. True they had things in common and they were sexually attracted toward each other but real love no.
5. The constant use of the terms "her future husband, his future wife, the young intern, the young wife, ect. was very annoying. To use it for the initial set up of that part of the plot is fine but, we already know what the situation/plan was so you don't have to keep referring to it. Use the characters name or he/she, his/hers or him/her for the rest of the book.
6. Lastly the title of the book is not consistent with the storyline. Different title would have been better.
The characters were completely flat. Got tired of reading "the young intern." Then, after no kissing or romance, there are a few sex scenes after the middle of the book. Trashy type. Which would make sense with the lack of the storyline but if that's what this is, it shouldn't have taken half of the story to get there, plus there's not much of it. So, does it want to be a smut book or not? I really should have given up on this one. Glad it was a freebie. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
The Accidental Honeymoon takes place in Silicon Valley, California and is the almost unbelievable story of Karen Davis, junior college drop-out and becomes a store clerk. Due to a mistake she is offered an internship, finds her way to the executive floor, a pretend marriage that turns real and helps capture the bad guy. The story reads like a fairy tale love story and is a fun light read.
The only reason it got 2 stars instead of 1 is because I liked the plot. It was a difficult read. I felt like I was reading a newspaper article reporting facts. Poorly written. Free but still not totally worth it. :(
I read the reviews and decide to go for it anyway. It would have been so much better if the characters were called by their names instead of the intern and the CEO. You sometimes had to re-read to figure what it was supposed to say.
