Mel Odom takes the reigns from series creator Mark Ellis in the 21st edition of Outlanders, and while the tone of the books shifts slightly with this new voice, the overall vibe of the series is well intact.
More secrets come out about Kane and his destiny, as he follows the trail of a suddenly activated mat-trans unit to the Yucatan peninsula, where a former ville archivist is searching for the parts of an ancient alien manna machine that could end hunger in the Outlands - and give him absolute power.
The device provides food out of thin air, it’s an ancient device given by the Archons to ancient humans, but it was taken apart and scattered across the world long ago.
Some good action sequences here, with Grant and Kane not wearing their typical Mag armor but instead going native as Outlanders, and the pacing works as well, even the dream sequences that see Kane in his various incarnations over the years as Balam shows him the importance of the artifact.
Nice to see a new writer can continue the awesome tradition Ellis started.

Set in the same world as the Deathlands series. These books follow another set of adventures in the post holocaust world. Good men's adventures series. Recommended
